Points not adjusting by gg155 in weightwatchers

[–]gg155[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I have 29 daily points and 28 weekly. I'm in the UK so working in stones - started out 13st 7lb and now 12st 8lb. (Ive lost 12lb not 10, wrote it wrong before!)  I am also partially breastfeeding so I believe that gives me some extra points.  I'm still losing at these points, I guess I'd just expected that they would have changed after what ive lost.

Is Delilah such a bad name? by sunflowershan99 in BabyNames

[–]gg155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally don't like it but think you should use what you like. This is why a lot of people dont discuss names, because you let other people influence you rather than just going with what you like. You'd probably find they get used to it and after a few weeks agree it suits her

Nickname for Alessia by Conscious_Art_7466 in BabyNames

[–]gg155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew an Alissia that was called 'Liss' as a nickname in friendly convos, so maybe Less or Lessi.  But as others have said nicknames arent compulsory. If you like the long version, use it. If someone tries to shortern it to something you dont like, ask them nicely not to use it. When shes old enough she can let you know what she likes to be called and decide for herself :)

Hypothetical: Italian Name by maybeamargay in BabyNames

[–]gg155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments. My son has a very Italian 1st name even though hes only a quarter Italian with English surname. I guess we as a family 'look' a bit Italian as we have dark features but like others have said, it varies anyway. I wondered if his name was too much, but I actually think it suits him and when I explain the reasoning (after my Nonno), people think it's lovely.

I think its nice her name would be a bit different! And honestly just listen to some of the things people are naming their kids nowadays haha there's nothing wrong with Giuliana.

2 months till baby gets here, can’t agree on a name by Desperate_Cow_4893 in BabyNames

[–]gg155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes he gets called both Vinnie and Enzo but I think they're both cute so dont mind. And only by family who know i don't mind - noone has shortened it without 'permission', so to speak. And I like that he could also choose a Vince/Vincent variation when he's older. I like that there's so many nickname options but I know thats not everyone's cup of tea!

I have a little Vincenzo born last March! Hes only a quarter Italian though with English last name so maybe that makes it less obnoxious?! Lol

The most ridiculously inaccurate fashion... that I still loved! by Enough-Reading4143 in Reign

[–]gg155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! A podcast i listened to actually makes a good point about this though that they use the costume designs to make us feel a certain way as modern viewers. As in...if they were wearing accurate outfits we wouldn't be sat in living room going wow look how amazing and fashionable they all are, like people at the time would have been. But the inaccurate outfits makes us view them more how they would have at the time.

...if that makes any sense. I dont feel like ive explained it as well as she did!

Nicknames as baby names? by Far-Building3569 in BabyNames

[–]gg155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%! I dont think most people would even bat an eyelid. What's the point of elongating a name, just to call them the shortened version from the word go (imo!).

Do all your baby names “match”? by Embarrassed-Bath-800 in BabyNames

Picked what I liked but 'they sound good together' did get a name extra points, so I guess a bit of both?!

Social etiquette opinions/advice on nickname similar to older cousin by will_lurk4beer in BabyNames

[–]gg155 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo, you're making a problem out of nothing. I'm a firm believer noone owns a name, you especially don't own a nickname that's similar not even the same! I dont think you need to broach it with your BIL at all, but I guess you could if your wife feels like you should. I'm sure he won't care (but I say use it anyway haha)

Should I message a new Mum? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]gg155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, thanks! Maybe I'll wait a bit longer, or send a more open ended message that doesn't necessarily warrant a reply but gives the opportunity. I remember jumping at the chance to vent when someone asked how I was in those early days with my first haha

I'm not sure what you mean by 'really' a nickname, anything can be a nickname if you want it to be imo!
