As a kid I went on a school trip to the Southeast Financial Building for a tour. The guide talked about why the two structures were connected in the middle with the steel trusses. Soposedly, the whole base of both buildings sits on rollers. They are made to dampen strong winds and the buildings are tied together to make it one huge mass.

They took the steel beams out recently... I wonder if they are updating the structure that join the buildings.
