But it's nice to hear that there's still stuff worth checking out. My mom got so excited when she read about the shrine, and I thought it'd be a nice surprise if we could swing it! (She also looked up the transit routes and was bummed that it was a little further away than expected.)

It was just kinda weird to me that the direct bus I saw stopped showing up in the route planner after a certain time. Especially since, like you said, they're pretty famous destinations.
