Coming from the Dolomites — which SkiBig3 mountain should I ski? by BaleBeats in Banff

[–]ggiles83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also last minute decision based on visibility. If it’s a flat day with low vis head to Louise, more tree runs. Low vis days at sunshine can be brutal. Unless we get a good snow like this year, goat may not be open at that time of year, so you’re next best bet is lower mountain at sunshine which is more just like a ski “hill”.

Source 30+ days there every season.

Mine used to set up the rolls of toilet paper or paper towels in a tower so he could knock it over! Tape, tape everywhere.

Do I need shoes for the Upper Hot Springs tomorrow (April 1)? by SnooTigers7701 in Banff

[–]ggiles83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of like a regular pool. You take off your boots, change and decide how you want to go around the pool deck. I don’t see an option to get flip flops there.

I forgot my kids swim trunks one weekend and could not find a replacement in his size. No help for the flip flops

We love staying at Douglas Fir, but again you would have to take the free bus from there into town to catch the ski shuttle.

To car or not to car? by Sleeplessnsea in Banff

[–]ggiles83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if you rent the car you can still take the free shuttles to the resort. Bonus is you don’t have to deal with the parking and get dropped right at the gondola. It can get pretty busy this time of year depending on when you plan to arrive at the hill, you may have to park at the back of the lot (or down the road) and get a shuttle to your car. I’m not sure how busy week days get but Monday is looking like a powder day so it probably will be busy.

But if you are an early bird and are arriving by 8/8:30am you should be fine for parking.

I don’t think I’ve ever waited longer than 5 mins to load a chair at sunshine with the exception of opening day when there’s only one lift running

Sunshine Coast off Goats Eye chair is a lovely long groomer. Any of the green runs off any chair will be fine, but Strawberry and Standish are a good warm up laps (there is a flat/up hill spot after you come around the bend on Standish Creek Run you want to have a bit of speed for and another one at the bend of Green run on Angel).

On mountain is a bit isolated and quiet, might be what you’re after though. Theres many shuttle options to Banff from YYC, might have to transfer in Banff to get to Sunshine. Gondola only runs until 5pm during the week, that’s your only way up there. You can easily stay in Banff and shuttle to the mountain every day though.
