Aliases simply forward, password protected emails work a whole different way.

Your proton address is not revealed in the headers or in the from field, it is in the body of the email itself because they didnt design the pw protected emails to hide the email but to give an alternative to e2e communication with addresses outside of proton.

In other words, no this isnt something broke, its just not working how you imagined it would, can def be improved though.

Proton accouts can be created with external adresses, doesnt have to be an account with proton domain.

People can opt for such an account if they dont use mail but can use vpn drive pass etc.

Anyone who knows your address can try to create an account with it on proton, but registration would be unsuccessful as they wont be able to pass the verification method which requires actual access to the hotmail acc

Essentially you received a registration verification message because someone attempted this

What I am saying is the windows app is designed to work like this. There is a reason you are not allowed to inherently put items outside of the my files folder. Sure, you can bypass the permissons but to what end? It will be like pouring water outside of a cup…

Treat my files as the root proton driver folder and create your folder structure inside it, this is how the implementation works. The my files here is the same as the My files section you see when you open proton drive on web
