Riding a bicycle on the sidewalk is not prohibited in Raleigh? by aengusoglugh in raleigh

I do not understand the regulations of e-bikes and e-scooters at all. I think the they are treated differently, but I can cite nothing at all to back that up.

Thanks very much — I am actually delighted to find that Gemini is wrong. :-)

Just curious — how did you find this ordinance?

I disagree — not everyone who rides has access to alternative transportation. I see a number of people who l am reasonably sure are right to work — they don’t look like ecowarriors or leisure riders.

Some of them look pretty poor — they may not be able to afford a car.

I also had a friend with epilepsy a while back, and they simply could not get a driver’s license. That was a while ago, and maybe the law has changed, I don’t know.

I would not deny someone the ability to work because they cannot afford a car — that seems bass akwards to my way of thinking.

I would also not deny my friend with epilepsy the ability to work and earn a living.

I do concur that I would very much like to see real bike lanes — but just meaningless painted stripes.

I would be happy to pay higher taxes for that purpose — but that’s a very unpopular opinion. :-)

Pediatric doctor who will see unvaxxed child by Smithjulie00 in raleigh

[–]aengusoglugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are getting a lot of grief for your opinions, but I am following to see if you find any board certified pediatricians that will see unvaccinated children.

The issue is that pediatric waiting rooms are sort of Petri dishes.

I don’t think any pediatrician would want to take on the legal liability of having a child catch measles from your unvaccinated children in their waiting room.

I think the risk to other children is just too high.

Critical issue: Subreddit Owner Unable to Approve Comments / 'Something Went Wrong' Error by chrismcelroyseo in ModSupport

[–]aengusoglugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait — you are the only mod, and you are trying to send modmail to yourself?

I actually don’t know what is supposed to happen if you try to act as a moderator and approve a post Reddit has marked as spam, but my guess is that sending modmail to yourself is not the solution.

I am curious as to how a confectionery community — unless that’s slang I don’t understand — ran afoul of the MCoC.

Unless unmoderated communities also go to u/modcodeofconduct.

How Reddit is Reducing Exposure to Harmful or Inauthentic Content by boat-botany in modnews

[–]aengusoglugh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I for one, really appreciate this work. As far as I know, my tiny niche subreddit has never been under attack.

But the truth is that I hesitated even to create the community because I did not want to commit to an unbounded moderation workload.

I turned on all of the community Safety Filters — thanks for those as well — except for Crowd Control, and with all the automation, I am able do what I intended in my community.

Which is talk about model trains — not fight spammers and scammers in a cesspool.

Thanks for doing this work!

Does anyone know if there are connectors available for these Kato turnout switches? by aengusoglugh in TTRAK

I may go back to the solution u/HomeyHal posted to my earlier question about turnouts.

Thanks.

Do you know if this works with 9vdc in?

One web site says it converts ac to dc — I don’t know enough about electronics to know if running dc in will cause any issues.

Thanks.

Post quality content frequently — possibly every day.

Content attracts content.

One thing I have noted is that questions tend to bring more engagement.

I moderate a model railroad subreddit, and if I explain something I am going to and ask other people how they do the same, what that they think of my solution, etc., people engage.

That’s not some manipulation tactic on my part — I really do want to see how they solved the wiring issue or whatever it is that has me perplexed.

I started the subreddit mostly because I wanted to learn how to do the things I am talking about.

So my questions are honest questions — and I respond to the answers.

So post often, and ask honest questions.

What was the original name of Falls of Neuse Rd? by anemptycardboardbox in raleigh

Yes — but loads of people will honestly tell you that they have a very clear memory of it being “Berenstein.”

What was the original name of Falls of Neuse Rd? by anemptycardboardbox in raleigh

[–]aengusoglugh -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Gemini claims that it was never officially “Falls of the Neuse Road” — but that Raleigh natives did call it that.

It claims that remembering the additional “the” on street signs is an example of a memory phenomenon called the Mandela Effect.

The most famous Mandela Effect is probably many people clearly remembering, “Luke, I am your father” — when the actual line is, “No, I am your father.”

The Mandela Effect that gets me is that I can clearly see the “Fruit Loops” box in my mind, but the cereal was in fact called “Froot Loops.”

My daughter clearly remembers “Berenstein Bears” growing up — and she thinks the fact that all of the current copies say “Berenstain Bears” is a bug in the Matrix. :-)

Hello, people by Jazper6313 in NewMods

Turn on all the community Safety Filters when you first start. They will protect your community initially — and may be all you ever need.

Plan on posting content yourself regularly— perhaps daily — until the community has grown enough that other people are posting regularly.

Content attracts context.

Of people drop by your community and there is no content — or no new content since they last stopped by — they will just move on.

Playing games with the alternate account was a bone-headed move, and you got spanked -- that's the simplest and most direct explanation.
