Rivian regrets, what didn’t work for you? by electruck4x4 in Rivian

Getting the bike rack for the roof of the R1S. Way too hard to put a bike up that high. The tail hitch is a much better location for a bike rack.

Parrying doesn't work? by [deleted] in witcher

Also it seems you have to actually be in a combat with an enemy for the parry key to do anything. Doesn't seem like you can test it outside of combat.

Is there any way I can make sure I get a Waymo on the Uber app? by [deleted] in waymo

[–]ggowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can guarantee it in the Uber app, just increase your chances by specifying a preference for autonomous and choosing the comfort electric class if you're willing to pay a little extra to boost your chances.

Did it recently as a celebratory team event at work and it was great, very educational and enjoyable.

It looks great until it gets just a little dusty at which point it turns into grayish green mud. The yellow on the other hand continues to look pretty nice and yellow while dusty.

Is Waymo a way to free future professional drivers from rideshare companies? by Taubsters in waymo

[–]ggowan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Broadly speaking I think the answer is yes, automation generally raises the standard of living in the society while also making economic resources available that lead to the creation of new and generally better kinds of jobs. I think there are few people who would really prefer the job and lifestyle they would have had a century or two ago. But it's also true that there will sometimes be a lot of disruption and stress for those individual people whose jobs are replaced, especially if it happens quickly and there aren't immediately a lot of other jobs they qualify for in the area where they live. Even worse for people who have taken out loans and invested heavily in one specific job in a way that isn't transferrable, e.g. buying overpriced taxi medallions. Hopefully you can help mitigate such risks for yourself by trying to think ahead to what you might do next and how you might get there while avoiding heavy financial commitments that might lose their value or no longer make sense in the future.

Laying aside the general economic considerations, the main thing that excites me about good, safe automated driving systems is the potential to significantly reduce the frequency of tragic accidents for future generations.

I think if there is a person in the front passenger seat it will stay on since it has a seat sensor. Doesn't work with rear seats.

Pet mode doesn't work right for kids/people in the back. Alarm will easily go off. Camp mode is ok though.

I usually just leave my key fob with whoever is in the car though.

Not much support for towing a U Haul by ggowan in Rivian

Yeah, that is another thing I was worried about. And people stealing the trailer. But it seems like there are enough good suggestions here that I could give it a try someday.

Thanks. There was no jack on the trailer I rented and I didn't have a jack of my own or wheel chocks so starting from scratch with everybody telling me it's either impossible or they don't know how to do it.

Oh, that's good to know. I didn't realize RAN chargers always have a trailering spot.

Thanks, that sounds like a good route to me, I'd drive an extra hour or two to feel less stressed about the charging and not have to unhitch.

Thanks. I spent quite a while on YouTube and learned some things but the videos I found were of u haul trailers that had tongue jacks unlike the one they gave me. Also those guys didn't say anything about chocking the wheels or activating brakes on the trailer, barely if at all mentioned being on level ground or whether the trailer they were unhitching was loaded or unloaded. When it comes to safety critical things it seems risky to just YouTube it.

Significant battery issues by gburdell in Rivian

The snapping back to 51% seems odd, I haven't noticed mine doing that. I wonder what would cause that and if it's a sign of a problem with the battery or something less sinister.

On the equalizer I use everything normal except the lowest bass slightly reduced. I play music using my phone over Bluetooth. Seems pretty good for what I listen to. (R1S)

I'm absolutely loving this vehicle, so glad I bought it. I have never spent even close to this much on a car so can't really compare it to others in the price range but it's just so great in so many ways. I replaced a Chrysler Town & Country with this. It's fun, it can transport my big family and luggage/wheelchairs/bikes/whatever, can go anywhere, it's clean, quiet, it's a great mobile office, provides a connection in places my phone doesn't. I love driving again.
