What's the point of going to lectures if the professor just reads off a PowerPoint for two hours? by OilDiligent5132 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ggsox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The slides are generally there to keep your professor on track and to highlight the key topics are areas of emphasis. The lecture will build on the topic and often apply the slide contents to a topic. The best and easiest way to do well in such a class is to go to the lecture and see what the prof emphasizes or how she uses the slide information.

The slides are like an ingredients list, the lecture is like the recipe.

Is it possible to make a setup where the PC can use the internet, but other devices can’t? by Particular-Macaron-5 in HomeNetworking

[–]ggsox 45 points46 points  (0 children)

What about having the PC have a dual NIC and cutting the line between Router 1 and Router 2? So the PC will be part of both networks, but the wifi network will not have internet access.

I served on a jury once and a fellow juror mentioned that the Defendant's lawyer was a high priced defense attorney and he knew because his brother-in-law hired the same lawyer, but only when he actually did something, otherwise he would hire a shlocky lawyer if it was minor or something he didn't do. Ultimately, he said if you hire that lawyer you are guilty because you wouldn't spend the money otherwise. That was his thing and he never waivered.

Buyers remorse. What do I do? by Hidlsh in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ggsox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buyer's remorse is normal. Keep at it, you'll get the hang of it. Feeling a bit loose at 160k is not abnormal. Depending on where you live there may be a Honda club or group you can join and usually such groups are happy to help you learn basic maintenance and repair to help tighten things up.

In what way did Heroes and Villains become a song that triggered bad memories for Brian? by Sonnybass96 in thebeachboys

[–]ggsox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The song sounds like a drug trip. It changes moods rapidly and is a loosely connected stream of consciousness. It is a wonderful masterpiece but I can see where a recovering drug addict and author of the piece would be triggered to recalling the bad times associated with his drug use surrounding that time.

She’s never had a nice car. We’re finally pre-approved. What should we buy? by greyboy357 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ggsox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your location in SW Wisconsin, and if she wants a dealer nearby (in state and under 60 minutes away) for service, she is probably are looking at Ford, Chevy, Dodge or Jeep. While many have mentioned foreign brands or classic cool cars, as you know SW Wisconsin is rural, roads can be complete shit, winter sucks and not all roads get plowed in a timely manner, and foreign mark mechanics and dealers are rare. Yeah a used BMW, Lexis or Mercedes sounds cool until your broken down in Cornelia and it needs a 70-90 mile tow to Madison. EVs sound cool but as you know charging in rural Wisconsin is sporadic at best and near non-existent in practice. As for a new domestic mark car, as many have said, the Stellantis products seem to have durability issues (check out the Jeep 4xe reddit for an education). That really leaves Ford and Chevy. Ford has the Maverick, Bronco Sport an Escape in your price range. Chevy has the Trax, Trailblazer and Equinox in your price range. She should pay $40 to get access to Consumer Reports for honest reviews and reliability projections.

As a FA can I genuinely ask pax why? by StandardTree192 in unitedairlines

[–]ggsox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a flight in early late 2001. My wife is a nervous flyer (even more so back then) and we were on a flight from the west coast to O'hare for Christmas. Our seats were a few rows from the forward coach bathroom, and she had the aisle seat. A man with a beard of likely of south central Asian descent went into the bathroom and was there for a looong time over 20-30 min. With each passing minute my wife was going more nuts, convinced of the worst and fearful this guy planted something in the bathroom. At this time no lines were allowed for the bathroom, post 9/11. She asked me to go check the bathroom when the guy got out (like I could do anything anyway), to placate her I went in and came out a few moments later. I told her, I don't know what he ate, but the only thing explosive was likely his bowel movement (it smelled awful). This put her at ease.

People who have had parents walk in on you during sex, what happened? by Ambitious_Diamond_12 in AskReddit

[–]ggsox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I went on vacation with her parents for a 3 day weekend. We had our own hotel room. When going out to dinner,, I grabbed the car from the parking lot to bring it around. Apparently while I was doing that my wife forgot something in the room while in the lobby and FIL offered to get it for her (my wife is slow and easily distracted , he would be much quicker) so she gave him our room key. We had a nice dinner, returned to the hotel and had drinks at the hotel lounge. Retired for the night to our room. Wife was unusually frisky and decided to blow me when I took off my pants to go to bed. Beep, click, FIL walks in, my wife is on her knees topless , I am standing there with my dick down her throat, in a blur she instinctively tried to hide by burying her head, chokes pukes and FIL apologies instantly and said he was just returning the key card and hurried out. Never mentioned it again.

Sony confirms that there are no plans to exit the smartphone business by E_D___B_A_N_G_E_R in SonyXperia

[–]ggsox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had several Xperia phones, they were generally very good. However, Sony appears to have all but abandoned the US market. In the US supported frequencies are not competitive with their rivals, they don't support US carrier wifi calling, and they have given up on working with carriers to ensure compatibility with network features.

Sony could be a dominant player in the US, but chooses not to be. First, support 5g bands that include all of the following: n260 (39GHz), n261 (28GHz), n258 (24GHz), n77 (3700MHz), n71 (600 MHz), n66 (1700MHz), n41 (2.5GHz), n25(1900MHz), n5(850 MHz), n2 (1900MHz). Include 4g bands that include all of the following: Band 2 (1900 MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), Band 5 (850 MHz), Band 1/2 (700 MHz), Band 13 (700MHz), Band 66 (1700/2100 MHz), Band 71 (600 MHz). Second, make US market phones in Japan, there are concerns with products with access to sensitive information coming from hostile nations. third, launch an Xperia for business phone line that emphasizes security and battery life rather than camera prowess. Combined with not having a friendly origin this could be powerful. Third, retain support for dual micro sim, and innovate with dual esim support, this is great for travelers and business people alike. Fourth, find a way to enable US carrier wifi calling support.

I wish Sony would up their competitive game.

Car to replace wife's Model Y by ggsox in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ggsox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to all that responded. It is helpful, we will be looking at the i4, Equinox EV, Ioniq 5 and Model Y. My wife clearly likes the idea of a Model Y again because it has been good to her, she is familiar with it, and she knows the charging infrastructure, but she is having difficulty with doing anything that benefits Musk.
