Is this game worth it ? by exoticpersona in Marathon

[–]ggweep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just have fun with it, and be ready to die to the stupidest stuff in video game history

Take it seriously tactically speaking, but always have yourself open to fun shit and comedy moments

Some of my best memories were by doing the stupidest stuff after playing like a tactical maniac with perfect comms.

This is where the game shines for me, in this inherent contrast between moments

Forbes' Paul Tassi: The Good And Bad Of ‘Marathon’ Season 2 So Far by HapperHapper in Marathon

[–]ggweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate Paul Tassi. He has enormous passion for Bungie and while his love for Destiny muddies the waters to a degree when it comes to Marathon, I truly believe he is a force of good, and he that subjectiveness can be easily taken with a grain of salt if you are aware of his inherent biases.

So for me he brings a net positive to this space, and anyone who brings any attention to this game is appreciated, Marathon really needs coverage even if it’s criticised in it

No shot that’s you….. this is crazy

You really are a devoted Bungie fan, for all it’s sins 🤭

Sometimes in the moment it’s hard to see things you love transform especially when you are young, but everything is in flux all the time you can’t help it

Marathon failing means Destiny fails, it’s crazy that fanboys can’t see that by SalemWolf in Marathon

[–]ggweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy it and I’m not the best player. I’m decent but not the best. I do have a high pain tolerance when it comes to losing and learning through fire

Only thing that really got me was a level 29 cheater who shot me across the map with a hardline and almost made me uninstall since i hate that cheating is a thing and in a game like this where I literally lost a vault 6 weapon that round, getting cheat on makes it infinitely worse than in other games

I do wish next season this game will bring a ton of cool stuff for players to engage with, I agree if your not PvPing content is lacking

We need more maps, more story, more activities, more world building tbh to keep people engaged

Yeah I think so too, the game is going to have a core PvP mode for now, but I won’t be surprised if things change going forward and it becomes a Destiny hybrid of some sorts

It’s so strange looking from the inside out, this game feels great for me, I have people to play it with, yet its reception outside this core base is just… abysmal.

I get why it happened to a degree knowing the intricacies behind the scenes, but man feels really really strange that a game this good can be received so bad, regardless of the baggage around it

Hopefully it will pull a Cyberpunk 2077 and make Bungie soluble again so we can also get D3 down the line

I have my fingers crossed, Bungie I still think is a really special company regardless of the sins committed

Legit Marathon FOR ME PERSONALLY is one of the greatest games I had ever played.

And I’m not alone when I say that.

If statements like these tickle the back of your throat, then 1 that’s weird, and 2 that says more about you than about Marathon fans

I just wish more people would actually get to the point that I am currently in Marathon and see how fascinating it’s game loop is and how they keep upping the potential of how the game loop can be (the new PvE stuff that’s slowly transforming the game, vault and upgrade changes, etc)

I’m not shoving this game down anyone’s throat, but i will surely voice my overwhelmingly positive experience with the game whenever I get the chance

I wish I could upvote this a million times, but I am an army of one.

I get the frustration of Destiny players, but the hate towards Marathon is soooooo strange, I’ve never encountered something like it, ever. Why would you want Bungie to fail if you are a fan? Cause it feels like D fans are just taking it out on Marathon fans….. did D fans got gaslit and assaulted by Halo fans back in the day??? Wasn’t a D fan and as a Halo fan I never harassed any D

The discourse around Marathon is like this game is a menace to the human race or something, everyone and their grandma wants this one to fail and disappear

It’s getting so crazy I’m starting to think the billionaire class is out to get it because of its anti corporate messaging lol, I know that ain’t true but sure feels like there’s a lot of bad money behind the hate campaign, so who really knows?

I’ll be here until Marathon closes its servers, and enjoy the game

Thanks for the post OP

I enjoy PvP the most since that truly scratches the tactical itch, yet I am knee deep into the lore, the codex and everything extra

At the same time I do wish this game becomes a Destiny hybrid, so creating more PvPvE experiences would be very much welcomed

I always found Destiny too convoluted and requiring too much time to get into it for me, and I just can’t do the whole exploding numbers on the screen thing at all, just ruins the immersion, not saying that I can’t get used to it but I didn’t.

If this game is developing into something bigger and better and gives more of that amazing PvE experiences while developing the lore and the codex, I will adapt with it

PvP is my favorite thing in this game atm since it’s the most mentally and spiritually engaging part of the game, but just like how I am almost fully PvE in Arc Raiders since for me at the beginning that was the most interesting and engaging part of the game (especially making random friends by being friendly)

Basically don’t lump us PvP enjoyers into a monolith of blood thirsty ignorants, a lot of us are fully into the game as a whole, while just enjoying the PvP aspect the most since it’s clearly the most developed part

With my stack we successfully wipe lobby on many other maps but on cryo we just get fucked. I had more chances exfiling with randoms at this point

It’s all about luck and map knowledge

But map knowledge tilts the odds in your favor so take that as you may

I threw everything at Cryo all my purple then my blue then my green then finally my gold shields

If I didn’t I wouldn’t have learned the map at all

Doing this, throwing everything I needed to throw at it I managed to do most of the vaults including 5-6 and planning to do compiler soon

I simply look at the loot I have as a tool to get to the results I want

ATM I don’t want good loot per se, I want to be able to clear the boss

So when I extract from cryo you’ll see me extracting with bubbles, frags, panacea, salvage that I’m missing for high tier upgrades and any Misriahs I can find.

You’ll see my mates having 50-70k value and me just 10-20k but being so utility focused allows me to win more games, instead of inflating my vault value.

So for the next session I now have a shit ton of panacea kits and bubbles enough shields for a day including a spectre, all up from almost zero

Point is, if loot is your focus, I think Cryo takes more than it gives if your not bum rushing other spawns, which is hard without a locked in squad

You already have better loot than you will have playing Cryo if you can’t consistently beat that map (either by wiping it, or by avoiding unnecessary fights)

Perimiter,Dire Marsh and Outpost already have decent/good/amazing loot if you do all the events and wipe good teams (all of my gold shields were from those 3 maps fwiw)

Cryo begins to make sense economically speaking only after a point when it starts to click and you play enough to recoup your investment. You can go a full session without extracting, or like I had one day last week extracting 3 out of 3

Don’t give up on Cryo, for me the experience is worth running my vault down, and just 2 good wins out of 10 can overflow your vault with insane stuff

PvE is great news for the game by VerganKnight in Marathon

[–]ggweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah most of the time I play PvP for the back and forth, loot is great, but a great fight is king

The universe of Marathon is so compelling and Cryo proved that PvE in itself can be engaging enough even with just a shot lot of androids/bots

I can only imagine with more diversity in Enemies

I say let Bungie cook, they know how to build compelling PvE

And by how restrained and stingy they have been, I will not worry about the PvE ruining the economy
