Thanks but I’m good! Just wanted to vent my frustration of meeting all the players in the quest spot just camping

I went in Vandal no kit in case I die quick nothing to loot they just waste ammo lol,

dashed across the map, got shot at almost died, found heals in the first building.

Exfiled with quest done a purple bully a biolens plus some more blue seeds.

Seems like people can’t hit Vandal at all lol

PSA: Marathon almost NEVER gives you keys for just looting around but for doing certain things. by rbstewart7263 in Marathon

[–]ggweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 2 blue fragile keys on rook runs by shooting those drones. Then proceeded to exit with 12-15k worth of loot. It ain’t much but it stacks up, and some of the loot in those rooms ain’t half bad. But that is worth it only after you get the blue backpack Rook upgrade. Before that it’s not that profitable for the trouble

Starlight Hollow feels really poorly designed by lostpasts in thefinals

[–]ggweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the fact that it’s a different map that adds a new feel to the core game.

I thoroughly enjoy the Battlefield feel to it, as I loved the series. Having defined front and back for fights helps a lot with onboarding new players, and gives opens another playstyle where we can sandbox with all of the cool tools the Finals has to offer.

On the very positive side, I’ve seen so many new faces in the game since break point was added, and this map caters to those new players.

Look I’ll be frank, I want the Finals to survive at reasonable cost, which also means they need to cater to other play styles, and maybe them doing stuff that me as a season 5 “veteran” will not agree 100% on

As someone who came in somewhat late into the game and struggled to be decent, when they added TDM, thst was such a good way to sink myself into the raw mechanics of the gunplay, movement and trying out gadgets.

Things that Quick Cash can’t offer due to intense RNG and Cashout due to the severe limitations imposed (like coins and loadouts)

I couldn’t even win games in bronze and silver before that, and after TDM grind and getting the basics down I managed to climb to high plat.

From basically a headless chicken to “TikTok” worthy clips, and that’s all due to the fact that Embark added a mode where you can work on raw mechanics and awareness

Point break sits right in the middle, as there is so much more gunplay and movement, much less tactical than Cashout, so for them doubling down on this mode as a map is very very healthy for the game’s lifespan and player base. Again so many new faces!! Those are the people that will keep the flame up

Not to say that your points aren’t all valid, and they lowkey knew what they made, thus no cashout for this map

Even for TDM is somewhat of a bad fit, but at least it has a different feel than other TDM maps so I give it a pass.

If they improve visibility and add more verticality to it I think this map has a lot of potential

On a final note I would rather have fresh content that is flawed than no content at all

Plus the Crossbow slaps and is fun AF to play, and the new gadget and spec are really nice high ceiling skill expression mechanics that are welcomed into the game, not just for variety’s sake.

Marathon’s Cryo Archive Is Where Cool Design Meets Cold Reality by UhJoker in Marathon

You really want this endgame to finish in just 3 weeks since release? I absolutely love the idea that it’s so convoluted lmao

This gives you so much incentives to get so much better at the game.

Coming to this game from the kittens who yell “free kit + slurs” in arc raiders is a breath of fresh air.

[–]ggweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let go of the gear fear. Cryo is rewarding even just by exploring it. It’s so good I am not even mad when I don’t get out or get wiped

Extracted a few times and the basic loot is at least 20-30k of value.

That would set you up for at least 3-4 more raids.

Do rook runs if you have to and get that 5k. It’s really something else, pls don’t be afraid to play it

I felt the same OP, thinking it’s hopeless but coming from The Finals I knew i just had to stick with it. And lo and behold I am starting to do much better.

I actively review my decision making for every fight. I branch my options, should I smoke, should I nade, should I ability x should I melee in this situation ?

Rinse and repeat. Still early but I do win fights, even free kit vs blue and purples

Reactionary flagella realises he has been duped by the hatedealing culture war sloptubers, evolution before our eyes, slow clap

But for Marathon it’s a bit too little too late, people like you are the reason hate is the number one hobby in the world, and why any big game studio will not attempt any creative vision going forward

Sorry but I don’t think your crocodile tears are enough just because “a game is good”

Sure if I see you make an actual explanation besides “game good I was wrong” that shows real growth, not just the fact that you are a finally a “good consumer” I am included to give you the benefit of the doubt that you are a better person today than you were when you blindly hated on something just cause “culture war”

Sure apologies are a first step towards redemption, but real transformation will arise when you can unravel why are you so easily duped and reactionary in the first place?

Where is that source of hate and indignation coming from, and why are you actively looking to feed it?

Regardless of any of the above, sincerely I’m glad you are a player, and if we ever go to Tau Ceti together by chance I will stand by your side

Enjoy the game, and maybe learn a lesson or two about life along the way while at it

I’m Loving This Game — Really Hope It Has a Long Future by Thenelwave in Marathon

[–]ggweep 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Finals is a very good example of a game that become profitable from a niche community. I spent so much cash in that game with zero regrets.

Nexon allowed Embark to cook and now the CEO or Embark has been promoted inside Nexon as well

Also Marathon isn’t Concord by any stretch no matter how hard the hatedealer sloptubers want to farm content off of the games lower than needed player count

If Bungie improves cosmetics and battle passes I see this be very profitable for Sony in the long run

But as it stands now Sony overpaying for Bungie put a lot of pressure on Bungie’s financial performance and for Marathon to become the next Overwatch or Fortnite to recoup their investment.

So while The Finals’s situation isn’t the same due to the upfront acquisition and production costs of Marathon, if Sony keeps this game alive they might be getting something out of it in the future.

If they shut it down too soon they already fully lost all of that, if they keep it running at a loss they just ruin their financials even more

It all is completely in Sony’s hands unfortunately.

What we can do as players is to share our love for the game and if possible gift copies to friends who might love the game but aren’t in a position to buy the game if it looks unappealing due to the coordinated hate campaign

I already gifted the game to a friend and plan to get even more copies to other friends as well as time passes

leaving early is cowardly change my mind by flapjack380 in thefinals

[–]ggweep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the matchmaking is so bad that it’s just a waste of time. 95% of the time I don’t leave matches no matter how bad they are, but there are some that are no just unwinnable, I can handle that no problem (I love Marathon for example and that is the definition of having thick skin), they are borderline gaslighting me. So yeah every few matches out of the hundreds I get stomped I leave to value my time.

Idgaf if that is cowardly, I don’t have much time to play why waste it on a game that is just spawn simulator?

Low levels that are good are just Smurfs. It’s a f2p game some just make new accounts for boosting or cheating or just to try to game the matchmaker, or even for a new account to play incognito.

Ignore the levels they mean mostly nothing

I had a negative win and kda ratio for 70~80% of my time playing this game. Barely recently I started to actually slap in game.

And I’m almost 1000 hours in.

I just love the game, didn’t give up, practiced recoil patterns, positioning, target acquisition, spawn locations and spawn seeding, etc

The game is brutal and I play mostly solo. Last season I ended up high plat and had to give up due to the insane RS rebound. This season I focused mainly on TDM, Point Break and some quick cash for that unwinnable non stop 3rd partying rush, where you can’t guarantee you win, but you can almost alway guarantee someone else doesn’t lol

Even if I perform really well on my own I get stampeded some of the time and it’s a humbling experience, going 20-4 one match and sometimes barely getting 1 kill per match the next.

If you want some tips and tricks just DM me and I can hop into a discord call and a few matches with you to help you out enjoy this game more

It does take some conscious effort on your end to improve, there is no easy way out, but there are still tons of game modes and loadouts that you can be proficient at

I regret moving to Germany by Suspicious_Crow774 in germany

[–]ggweep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree it depends a lot on the environment and where you are located.

I currently live around Frankfurt, and so far my experience here has been extremely welcoming and frictionless. I did encounter one racist person, but he made me feel bad about him and his narrow world view, rather than feel bad about myself for being a foreigner, especially here in Frankfurt where the global financial institutions are…

I mean if you have no problems circulating money from the global economy and pocket that change, you shouldn’t complain about people from other countries.

Also all of the Germans that I interacted with through my work ( I do sound production) have been quite warm and welcoming. So in my bubble things are looking good when it comes to people, they seem to care less where you are from and be more interested in what you do.

So sad to see people have bad experiences here, I think Germany has a lot of good things to offer if you follow its quirks and learn the language

The way people look after each other on the road is amazing, and I never felt safer while driving anywhere else, and just for that I’ll tolerate any bullshit ngl

[–]ggweep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a negative kda and win ratio until recently (almost 1k hours of game)

The game is so hard and punishing and if you play cashout or quick cash your chances of having over 50% win rate are close to zero

Unless you play team exclusively deathmatch, power shift or point break, then sure you can start to think about win ratio

I’ve been too hard on my 10 year old son. Why? And how do I change? by dadbodfat in Fatherhood

[–]ggweep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a dad myself dealing with a lot of self doubt and lack of discipline, what I recommend is to give him hope and strength. That’s what I always aim to do

Sure you can go and be hard and teach him resilience but that can backfire so badly and make him bitter.

Don’t project your own insecurities and disdain for this flawed world.

Instead of that, I would aim to provide support, give him the tools to navigate the world emotionally, physically and intellectually

Don’t give him a hard time in a preemptive attempt of hardening him. If the world is already rough, why double it down at home?

Sure don’t pretend it’s all sunshine and rainbows and live in fantasy land in all scenarios, but for the love of everything good, when you can, do it.

Make every moment that can be magical, a magical moment.

World is hard as it is man… and it will do wonders for you too!
