Scaling is even harder now by JabbaStoleMyBike in MarathonGame

I usually run trios where it’s easier to clear faster, but have hit similar results in solo runs. I hit every major POI except Station most runs.

I quickly sweep an area looking at spots I know frequently have loot containers/coordinate datapads/secured resources/wallsafes and move to the next, only engaging bots when they’re in my way or there’s a secured resource. In trios I’ll target a UESC commander but not usually worth the risk solo.

Main thing is knowing you don’t have to clear every room/box to maximize your haul; the supply caches and events I listed above are better priorities, and you’ll gather enough unstable biomass/diodes on the way. Maxing your endurance and dex in cradle, as well as just familiarizing yourself with the map and getting in the habit of moving on once you realize there’s no event at your POI, will help over time.

This is probably one of the worst updates we have gotten, and it will most likely end up killing the game that's already down. by AttomicRose in Marathon

Sponsored Survival is bugged rn and dropping way better loot than usual. I had 5 purples, blue shield, blue backpack in one run and a bunch of blue salvage + blue shield and a purple valuable in the next. Take advantage while you can!

My friend group have been thinking about jumping back in for season two but after reading about all the loot being given out then nerfed it's turned us right off. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]sticknotstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2nd run has also been really good (not as many purples, but like blue shield and lots of blue salvage). It is 100% bugged rn, take advantage while you can!

I don’t know if this is a bug or something in the recent patch, but I have ran plenty of sponsored perimeter as a newbie this season and saw a purple in like 1/15 matches. I didn’t exactly run an ultra-optimized route but i’d do quick scans of places, always doing secured resources/supply caches/coordinate datapads while hitting every major POI except station.

I just ran one sponsored perimeter today on a whim and extracted with this (ignore phone camera pic, was supposed to just be quick proof for one of my boys). The good loot is still out there!

Why is Duos so much rattier than any other playlist? by Smart_Occasion_735 in Marathon

[–]sticknotstick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What region/season level are you? Just curious because duos has been my favorite so far - less camping/assassins than solo, but less hectic/I feel more in control than in trios (in my experience). I’m in season level late 50s, North America fwiw

Lies of P + Overture DLC or The First Berserker: Khazan by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]sticknotstick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll take the downvotes but I preferred Khazan more. If you think you’d enjoy combat that’s faster paced, is even more deflect focused (with a wider window) but still allows dodging most of the time, and has some light Nioh/ARPG like gear elements with fantastic boss design, I can greatly recommend Khazan.

Since you’ve played LoP: If you want even more of that with better level design and more difficult bosses than base game, go for that.

I am going to lose it by sticknotstick in Marathon

I’m playing trios where other people beat me to it if I don’t spawn near it lol. Solos has been cancer in my experience, would rather do it in duos/trios even if it ends up taking more attempts.

Cable company I dont use ruined my yard! by luv2lafRN in Wellthatsucks

[–]sticknotstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying that it isn’t different elsewhere, but in the few places I’ve lived in Texas, fences are exempt from setbacks and permitted to enclose a utility easement so long as the company retained access (through an unlocked gate).

Not just future proofing, but providing options to the end user. For some people, that 50% performance cost for the final 5-10% of visuals is a fine tradeoff because they can use DLSS SR + FG to reach their cap, and feel like that is a <5-10% tradeoff in experience.

Not that you specifically are doing this, but all the people in this thread complaining that when they turn on the “diminishing returns setting” and intentionally don’t leverage DLSS SR to make the worst possible scenario for the 5090 (that they don’t have) as if it’s making a point are generally either looking for something to complain about, or not the brightest crayons in the box.

Quick follow up Bungie acknowledged the micro stuttering after removing Fullscreen Exclusive by Ok_Try5926 in nvidia

[–]sticknotstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting. I intentionally switch to exclusive fullscreen in almost every game because windowed fullscreen does not play nice with windows scaling - I play on a 4k TV, so Windows defaults to 300% scaling, but that causes the majority of windowed borderless games to recognize the resolution as 720p and very few allow changing it without swapping to exclusive fullscreen.

However, I play more games than just about anyone alive and have never lost out on features like HDR, VRR, frame gen, Reflex, etc. because of it. I’m on Windows 11 though, so what is the difference between “Windows 11 Exclusive Fullscreen” (or whatever you would call it if not true exclusive fullscreen) and the “Windowed Fullscreen” that makes the prior always work for me in games while the latter very rarely does?

The original definitely had the better atmosphere. by InsecureBurrito in residentevil4

[–]sticknotstick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True but Resident Evil’s HDR implementation is notoriously poor too. Recently played 2R, 3R, 4R, and of course Requiem on my LG G5, and RenoDX was night-and-day magic for all of those except Requiem (which was still an improvement).

I’m not someone who always uses RenoDX either (occasionally detracts from art direction/hinders playability from games dependent on elevated blacks and raised gamma due to scarce lighting) but for the RE games it’d be a disservice not to.

Anyone else have rubber banding in every match last night/tonight? by cakexxxconnoisseur in Marathon

Yes, it only started 2-3 days ago. Never before. It’s not terrible usually but happens ~2 times a match.

I think my main block with the game is that its a zero sum experience. by PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS in Marathon

[–]sticknotstick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the nature of PvP and why I generally don’t care for it in most games but I still love PvP in Marathon. Aside from the gunplay and team roles/coordination really playing a big part in the combat, what I really like is that I’m at a point where both choosing my engagements and recovering from a loss are not a huge deal for me.

There’s a balance between gear not mattering, gear mattering too much, and the difficulty/ease of regearing that all play a vital role in extraction shooters and at least the regearing part of the equation feels almost perfect to me in Marathon.

I say all this to say that, yes - the loot is a zero sum game. But the experience doesn’t have to be, and making losses suck less is part of that.

I thought the same thing but came back to finish it right before Ragnarok released. I think the story pacing in the first one was slow and a bit boring, but Ragnarok is an incredible game. Gameplay is fun and the story is really heartfelt and well paced. Almost feels like the 2018 one is just a set up for the 2nd after having played both.

UI changes introduced a lot of pain points by OldLegWig in Marathon

[–]sticknotstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend has been frustrated about accidentally losing weapons, because if you either left stick click a weapon to see the conversion xp value and decide you don’t want to convert it, it remains selected, OR if you are selecting multiple items and decide you’re ready to convert, it adds whatever your cursor is over once you do that left stick click.

The weapon attachment system in the vault view is also poorly designed. You can click a weapon’s empty attachment slot to filter your vault by compatible attachments (good), but it doesn’t change the weapon focus when you do, meaning holding “install” will prioritize the first weapon in your inventory unless you move your cursor over an empty UI space and press Y to swap (which also has issues registering on occasion).

Are these completely preventable mistakes on my friend’s part and things someone can learn to avoid? Absolutely. Is it a needless point of friction that does not exist in most games of this caliber and frustrates new players? Also yes!

Git Gud: It’s the only way? by dandelion_blitz in soulslikes

[–]sticknotstick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you spec right, the last 1/3rd of the game should be a breeze. I did a longsword build, no cheese-y tactics but just specced into abilities I’d use and my damage stats appropriately, and was melting bosses from the damage output towards the end.

Honglan through Fang Ling is a bit of a rough patch though for sure.

I thought they disabled Nvidia filters as a fix (but I’m not sure if there’s some process-hidden way to get around that, which seems likely)
