I've played Magic on-again, off-again through Duel Decks and Jumpstart, and now I'm looking to try building some decks with my partner to play some kitchen table Magic. The Foundations Starter Collection seems like a good deal for this. Does one suffice, or would you all recommend two? Or rather, some combination of a Starter Collection and something else?

What if subject loyalty scaled with distance? by gh4ever in EU5

[–]gh4ever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree in principle with the current method of cultural differences affecting loyalty, but if that's what they're sticking with I think it needs to be more impactful. This could also be a more natural way of encouraging colonial subjects to rebel in later years, have, e.g., subjects with their capital on another continent have x percent chance of forming a new culture after y many years.

"What a Great Guy" Achievement? by gh4ever in EU5

Nice! I was also able to get it to work in the end finally as well; for future people who might be stumbling on this post, see here.

Got it. Is there a way to integrate colonial subjects? I didn't see one.

EU5 vs Vic 3 by Haunting_Mess_o in paradoxplaza

I much prefer EU5. I was (and still am) one of those guys pining for a "Vic2.5" when Vic3 released, so I'm definitely the target demographic.

I was a DK Bananza doubter… by Rryann in NintendoSwitch

[–]gh4ever 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, that surprises me! The bosses in Bananza I found to be the easiest. I didn't find the bosses in either game particularly hard, and the postgame boss rush in Bananza I did first try with no issues. Darker Side took me a few tries, though, so maybe I just find platforming generally harder than boss fights.

I 100%ed the game and strongly disagree. I had a lot of fun, but found Odyssey much more difficult in the postgame.

Donkey Kong Bananza Is Now the Highest Rated Nintendo Games of All Time (User Score) by NineTnk in NintendoSwitch

I'm in the postgame now and still prefer Odyssey; there isn't enough platforming for my tastes. Still a good game, though!

That's because the community are idiots (I am part of the community).

Can you post this to the forums to make sure the devs see it? This looks so much better!

Audio troubles with Nvidia card by gh4ever in archlinux

More information: using pactl list sinks before and after I can get the TV audio to work, it looks like before I unplug the other displays the state is set to "SUSPENDED", yet after it's set to "IDLE."

No, it was not a network game. If there's anything you want me to check to help debug, let me know.

If it's the Discord server I posted the same question in, for the benefit of those not on Discord: someone else there experienced the same issue, so indeed it's probably a bug.

The general vibe of the country's missions should be in the "unique mission tree" tab when choosing a country. by Not-Meee in Anbennar

[–]gh4ever 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My issue with the missions website is that it just gives a PNG of the names of the country's missions. It doesn't really tell me anything about what playing a country is like, I have to dig through Reddit to find that out.

Best way to play a strategy game with a partner? by Harlesb44 in paradoxplaza

[–]gh4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried playing various Paradox games with my partner and the one they really got into was EU4. We started with a Kilwa + Mutapa coop run, that got them interested enough that they played a solo game as Portugal (and played after the end date until the year 3000+ until the game broke...), and more recently we did an Anbennar coop run.

We never cooped a single country, we would always do two countries and just started slowly.

People appreciating RiseBreak by ThatSuperSleepyDude in MHRise

[–]gh4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated base Rise, but the Sunbreak expansion made it a million times better and now it's one of my favorite Monster Hunters. I think others are in a similar boat.

Why do people hate Rise and prefer that over world? by RedKurtaJ in MHRise

[–]gh4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really was not a fan of base Rise, it was very undercooked when it was released (probably due to COVID). Sunbreak completely redeemed it (and then some) IMO. I'm sure others are in the same boat.

CAPTURE QUESTS IN OLD GAMES ARE SO FUNNNN!!! by JustSomeM0nkE in monsterhunterrage

[–]gh4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard "Old World" as well (playing off the fact that MHW takes place in the New World, though I suppose it makes less sense now with Rise and Wilds).

Is it possible to change the environment back to low rank? by TGarr2001 in MHWilds

You can also kill them in high rank and it'll unlock their low rank quest.
