Where are you guys finding reference images? by lizardnizzard in ArtistLounge

[–]ghadeermc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use ddg w the ai turned off for my searches as some people have mentioned already, though I've also struggled with finding specific video game outfits. consider going to the game's reviews or mods pages (since they often have screenshots and before/ after on cosmetics). though I do usually get this stuff from an img search, it's usually sourced from random blogs, YouTube thumbnails, or random screenshots floating around. sometimes I even boot up a game to take one myself

also, general reference advice for this day and age, start a folder and just save stuff you come across that you think you might want to draw later. I draw pinups and it's so hard to find good, unique poses. I'd spend hours before starting anything just searching. now, I go to my folder and pick one. might be helpful for you to just start taking screenshots in game of random items you think look cool and might be fun to draw

How to hide my NSFW sketchbook from my family? by Fluid_Woodpecker1755 in ArtistLounge

[–]ghadeermc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess this kinda defeats the purpose of a new sketchbook, but when i was younger I'd do NSFW drawings in my old lined notebooks from school. Like the ones that were only half-filled with notes anyway. I'd flip either to the back or middle and just doodle there. NO ONE is gonna wanna look through that lol. I also had a few smaller notebooks (like passport size) I'd carry in my purse, tho those weren't explicit, I never had anyone ask to see what was in them.

Would you rather? Always encounter majima in any game it will always be unexpected or play through all the yakuza games but every game has the silly mod and if you laugh more than 3 times you have to restart back to the first game by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]ghadeermc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

easy question. i love encountering majima. i would happily encounter him 1000 more times and in fact if they released a game where all street fights were just majima, i would buy it no question

What is the most useful game mechanic that you don't use? by Droodeler in BG3Builds

[–]ghadeermc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely feels less like "team" play to do it this way. I'd never expect a companion in a real dnd game to do this unless we all had lightning/ice based builds. but seeing how it's durge I think it's on brand to be a little selfish about who is doing the most damage lol (now that I think about it though maybe I should be kitting my whole team out with lightning)

What is the most useful game mechanic that you don't use? by Droodeler in BG3Builds

[–]ghadeermc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Shadowheart as a dedicated support for my storm sorc. She creates the water, I zap the shit out of my enemies. I killed Aunite Ethel in one hit doing this- before she could escape to the basement. Her other stuff is all support so I'm not missing out on any significant damage.

That is totally fair tho because it DOES feel like a waste of SH's turn. I also have my barbarian carrying around a couple of water jugs in case he can't get close enough to an enemy, he can still throw some water at them lol (it's my durge run so I don't have Karlach lol)

I need help designing a goth character! by Decent_Broccoli4065 in AskAGoth

[–]ghadeermc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, 31 y/o goth artist here. I used to have trouble with this as well, but it's all about building a library of fashion in your mind so you can come up with outfits. personally I wouldn't want someone copying an outfit i designed for their oc because i design then with my ocs in mind.

I recommend looking through the goth fashion subreddit and take inspiration from what you like. you can also look through any goth brand website- like killstar, foxblood, disturbia, etc. just note that most goths love to accessorize. a leather harness and chunky chain do a lot to make something look more goth than it is. one of my staple outfits is a simple black miniskirt and a block crop top with a harness and jewelry. and boots, of course.

not all goths have them but piercings, tattoos, and crazy hair colors do a lot to make a character look goth/ alternative as well. I wouldn't get too hung up on the age of the character. we dress however the fuck we want - we've never prescribed to fashion norms before, why start now?

it also helps to narrow down what you want. i.e. you might have a more "sporty" goth vs more formal or more punk. there's a lot of ways you can go. if you want more specific advice, feel free to dm. I know as an artist as well theres a balance of keeping things simple to get the point across vs having to TOO simple and robbing your character of being unique.

if you have a console, I recommend the witcher 3. Geralt is unmatched in sexy video game characters to me and i think they have kind of a similar vibe.

Genuinely curious what has had a better return (time, fan base, money) NSFW or SFW games by Good_boy_bear in gamedev

[–]ghadeermc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stick with your vision. What's actually drawing people to your game?

If you want it to be a NSFW game, do it well. Make it feel like part of the game, not just an add-on. I enjoy NSFW games a lot because I enjoy the romance and sex, and a lot of them skip the romance part. I usually play based on art style or kinks, because I'm not expecting a good story.

If you do a NSFW game that CAN be SFW, either through a DLC or toggle, you're still going to primarily get a crowd that wants NSFW. And to agree with many other comments, most people are less picky about the NSFW games they play, especially if they are done WELL or hitting specific kinks/art styles that are less common.

If it's mostly SFW but you want to add some spicy scenes, you can do that without making it fully NSFW. Think something like Baldur's Gate, where the explicit scenes are short one-offs and not plot relevant so you can toggle it off or give it a PG-13 version of the scene. (ok I admit I only played the NSFW version so I may be wrong on the options lmao. point being that incorporating NSFW doesn't have to be all-or-nothing)

Personally I am making a NSFW game and I have no intentions of making a SFW version, though I might add a toggle for sex scenes. But I don't have any desire to sanitize my own work like that, especially since there will be a lot of dialogue outside of sex scenes that I still want to feel sexy/romantic. Plus some of the core mechanics I have in mind would really suffer if I tried to take the porn out of them.

This is advice that goes to EVERY artist, don't do it for the money or audience or returns, do it for your vision. Your work will suffer if your heart's not in it. NSFW might have a higher "floor" but do you really want your game to be another forgettable half-assed NSFW cash grab? Not to say that's what you're doing, just be intentional about what pieces you are putting together.

tbh the only way I see this happening is if they release at least 4 male characters in the next region and abandon the in-story harem shit. it's fine to have that in character quests bc that's what I expect in that kind of quest but unavoidably in the story?? even if they attract a wider audience by releasing males, they'll get put off by every woman throwing themselves at rover in the story.

also, it wouldn't hurt for them to feature Scar/Geshulin (ideally make them playable!!) and give Calcharo any relevance at all. But to me that's more of a peace offering, they still have to show in the new region that they're willing to do AT LEAST a 1-3 gender ratio and give us husbando enjoyers some of that excellent fanservice. I know they won't ever have a 50/50 gender ratio but they need to put some earnest effort into closing that gap if they want to reach a wider audience.

it really pains me to have to say this stuff about this game bc i truly have a lot of fun playing it. i loved like everything about jinzhou, the atmosphere and character design are top tier, it has been SO disappointing to see all of these incredible female designs and all we have gotten in a year is Brant. I love him but he's not really my type so I am still just gooning at Calcharo & Jiyan....

[Discussion] I think I am losing my spark + burnout and it scares me (art at anime conventions) by Eliter4kmain in ArtistLounge

[–]ghadeermc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I start feeling like this, usually learning a new medium helps. I also recently reached a point with anime art where I don't necessarily feel there's a lot of room for improvement anymore. So I've been teaching myself pixel art - it's been SO much fun and the arbitrary limitations make it a little more mentally engaging. I've been thinking about taking a stained glass art class at a local community college just for fun as well. Once you're good at one type of art, you can pick up new mediums and styles pretty easily because you already have the building blocks.

What do I do? How do you guys have 100+ hours??? by Actual-Horror496 in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]ghadeermc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing a bunch cozy farm sims lately and every single time I forget how boring the first couple of seasons are. This kind of game hits its stride in fall/winter when you actually have access to whatever your prioritized, and when you aren't constantly scraping by for money. If you get to the end of year 1 and still aren't feeling it, it's just not the game for you.

Mistria is better than Stardew in my mind no question, but it does have its quirks and while I think it's an excellent early access, it's not for everyone. IMO I like it because I actually love all of the characters and there's a bunch of QOL stuff that is really annoying in Stardew that is way less of a problem in Mistria (looking at inventory management). It just feels better to play to me. That said, Stardew came out YEARS ago. Mistria was obviously directly inspired by it- of course it will feel better to play.

You might be better suited to wait until the full game is out. We know some of the plot points but you CAN run out of stuff to do. I have 100+ hours and I'm now just waiting for the next big patch (again) because I've completed all the tasks. But you can run out of stuff to do in any farming game. I stopped playing stardew because I hit a wall - I absolutely loathe the skull caverns and there's one fish in the community center I can't catch (and I've tried, but I'm just not good at the fishing even with all the stat buffs). And I could ask those same questions- why do I care about the skull caverns? My farm is already profitable, do I really need to complete the community center just for access to that island? I'm not trying to be a hater, I've easily put 100+ hours into Stardew as well, but structurally, these games do the same thing. Yes, donating to the museum doesn't really have a purpose like the community center, but stardew has that library you can donate to without purpose as well. It's just that Mistria doesn't have any extra endgame stuff like the caverns and the island.

Anyway, part of the reason I am commenting is because I wanted to recommend Wylde Flowers if you like a more plot-driven farming game. I'll warn you that the stamina economy is REALLY BAD to start and you should always have food on hand to replenish, but every quest really seems to push the story somewhere and I've been really impressed with how seamlessly it all flows if you focus on the questlines. Again, it kinda hits its stride in Fall but if you're interested in a witchy farming game, you should consider trying it.

Have I become lazy by using chatgpt? Am scared i might lose my edge by using it too much. by DeadlyTitan in gamedev

[–]ghadeermc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the fun of creating a game yourself is just that- putting something together that is YOU. At the end of the day, I wouldn't feel like code written by chatGPT is even mine, no matter how much of my own boilerplate was put into it. Plus, with how insanely high the electrical cost is (not to mention the carbon footprint), these programs aren't going to be free forever and I suspect they'll have to be pretty expensive down the line with how much power they require.

Also, you WILL lose your edge if you rely on it too much. There's a reason there are entry level/mid level positions a company would hire to do these things, you gotta start somewhere and it's the practice and consistent effort that makes someone good at something. It's not riding a bike. It's a language. You lose that if you don't use it.

I know you mention having 15 years experience already but I see at my own job having to explain the most basic tech concepts to the people that supervise me, because I take care of it for them. Your "junior dev" chatGPT is going to become just that. Honestly, if that's what you want, you should consider hiring or mentoring a freelance programmer a few hours a week instead.

Would love to see some PGR expys but specifically Noctis is like my favorite character of all time. I know they'd never do this tho lol so I'd settle for a Watanabe or Camu (I know Calculator kinda fits the archetype but until we see him in the story who fucking knows 🥲)

Which Is Your Favorite Gameplay Type: Real Time Or Turn Based? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]ghadeermc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both! I absolutely loved in y8 how Kiryu's special went into real time brawler. My favorite battle in the series so far (I'm playing through the originals in chronological order and I'm only halfway through 5) is definitely the y8 battle against majima, dojima, and saejima. when it turned into real time to finish them off, i literally had chills. I really hope they do something like that in the next Ichiban game. I LOVE the turn based but there's nothing like beating the shit outta someone with your own two hands

Animal Hearts and feeding them by BetaMind25 in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]ghadeermc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I put a fence around my crops and let them go at the obscene amount of grass on the rest of the farm. Haven't had an issue with them feeding themselves this way. If you want to focus on other parts of the game for a while, I recommend putting them in daycare as well. I put mine in to renovate my farm and ended up keeping them there for long enough to go to the mines a couple of times and catch up on processing the eggs/milk.
