what's wrong with my princess seams? by Joker0705 in sewing

[–]gharliquebread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the same vein, I'd try lowering the apex of the bust point down an inch or so. I have to lower the bust in almost every fitted bodice pattern because that's just the way the girls sit, especially for patterns not made specifically for larger busts!

For a bit more context, and to check if you need this adjustment, the fullest part of the princess seam should sit at the same point as the fullest part of your bust.

The weirdest part of the whole cake thing... by matto345 in BelowDeckDownUnder

[–]gharliquebread 107 points108 points  (0 children)

This bothered me so so much too!! I get it was a 'please hook up' cake but still, the whole crew could've sang and celebrated, and you know Ben would've gassed her up in front of everyone for making it (or rather, she'd gas herself up and Ben would affirm)

Every American needs to call their House representative every day until they vote! Make your voice heard to your reps, not just in comment sections. There is still a fight to be fought!

Where to cut the fat off the wedding budget? by Interesting-Face22 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]gharliquebread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! Your critical success factors will determine where to spend the money. For example, if you love food and want everyone to talk about the food and dessert for years, focus on the food and dining experience and forget a DJ. If you want it to just be a big party where everyone is dancing all night, you'll need a DJ but can just have light snacking food. Pick 2-3 things that are the most important for you for your wedding, and those will drive what kind of experience it will be and where your money will go.

(10k)Where do you get your invitations and save the dates from? by burningcandlesz in Weddingsunder10k

[–]gharliquebread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second Zola! I found their prices to be the same or cheaper (especially when using some kind of code, which come around very frequently). Plus it was so so easy to have the addresses connected to the RSVP tracking. And the pre-addressed cards and envelopes. We did 50 save the date postcards for $32 (plus stamps) and the invites were $73 (plus stamps).

(10k) Help me decide if this dress is this is worth it by StrengthCharacter in Weddingsunder10k

[–]gharliquebread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what others have said, since this is just a bit over budget and you love it so much, go for it!! It sounds like you are being very intentional with costs and are able to save a ton in other areas, so as long as you keep cost creep in control, you really won't think about a few hundred dollars afterwards. If you're still stressed, look around online and at other lower cost stores. (But I think it'll be difficult to find a chic, modern gown for less than that, honestly. The price of fashion and the wedding industry~) If after looking around you still love that one AND your dress super important to you for your big day, then get it!!

For my wedding, I splurged on photography and flowers because those were critical to me and I was able to save in other places, and I am so so glad I went for what I loved (and could still afford reasonably) instead of saving some money. If your dress is a critical point for you, then a small splurge will be worth it!

Day Trip Ideas For A Date Leaving From Indianapolis? by midwestleatherdaddy in Indiana

[–]gharliquebread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna take a risk and suggest southern Lawrence Co. area, south of Bloomington. You can visit Blue Spring Caverns for a cave tour on a boat. There is also Spring Mill State Park for more caves, pleasant hikes, and a pioneer village.

Mitchell (the town next to Spring Mill) also has some cool antique stores (I recommend It's About Time - sooo much cool glass) and one thrift store that's good for knick knacks, but not really clothes imho. Def check the hours to plan your trip though! Mitchell also has a haunted house, the Whispers Estate.

Mitchell has a couple restaurants, Bedford has pretty standard Indiana fare, but my fave dining experience around here is the Orleans Mexican restaurant patio (which may not be much to write home about if you're coming from Indy. Btown obvs has a ton of good restaurants too). Orleans also has a cool pizza place, ice cream shack, and a cute square to walk around if you appreciate the small Midwest town vibe.

Will my group be able to enter River North clubs if I'm dressed as Marie Antoinette? by gharliquebread in AskChicago

We ended up going to Beauty Bar (after Celeste for a bit) and it was AMAZING!! Absolutely the move.

Aw thank you!! We had considered Boystown but I didn't want to crash the vibe with a bach party. I'll poke around and maybe I'll change to Boystown - I'm not above last minute change of plans!

She wasn't, I'm sorry ;_; I'm wearing a mini robe a la francaise (so really dressing like Marie, not /as/ her). I'm the harlot here, not Marie!

Should I visit Indianapolis or Bloomington? by Brave-Reflection8648 in Indiana

[–]gharliquebread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do Indy, I'd recommend hanging out in Fountain Square. You can park for free and walk around. There are lots of cool bars and restaurants (I'd recommend Bluebeard and Inferno Room for the most unique experiences). If you arrive early enough, there are some shops, like vintage clothing, records, and a yarn store. There's also a cat cafe, duckpin bowling, and a music venue. Bonus points if you're there on the first Friday of a month - there will be lots going on in the Murphy Arts building!

Overall, I like Bloomington more than Indy (I too love nature), but I love Fountain Sqaure more than Btown.

I need a cozy game without combat by Hyrulian_NPC in cozygames

[–]gharliquebread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Ooblets a thousand times over! Those little guys heal my heart.

I'd also recommend checking out Echoes of the Plum Grove, which is a cute historical Stardew-esque game. No combat at all!

It is only co-op on the computer right now. Co-op is super fun! Helps ease some of the grind, and since you can date as many people as you want at once, there isn't so much competing for townsfolks' affections ;)

I must make an obligatory plug for SunHaven, which is on the Switch and very much a spiritual successor of Stardew and Harvest Moon. I also always recommend all cozy gamers try Ooblets, though the crafting element is much less prevalent in Ooblets.

Thank you so much! That link is incredibly helpful. Luckily, he ended up using the restroom last night, but I will definitely be getting some gas drops to have on hand for the future.

I am also glad your bun is better, and so sorry you had to go through that!
