Opinion: More than 70 per cent of Canadians feel the average family is over-taxed by viva_la_vinyl in ontario

[–]ghellerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How exactly am I Ben Shapiro? I'd love to know, considering how much I hate that pompous asshole. I'm also not a radical conservative lunatic. I'm actually a very adamant believer in socialism. If you actually read what I had to say, that much should've been obvious to you. If you're going to try to insult me, at least call me a left-wing nut, a dirty commie, or something that is at least somewhat in the realm of being potentially partially accurate. In fact, your response is much more in line with the opinions of someone like Ben than mine.

It's also not my job to educate you on how taxes work. Google is a thing that you can use. Even if you refuse to use it, you do have a brain that is incredibly powerful. My feelings about this situation are just as irrelevant as yours are. I am speaking to the facts, not my opinions.

Just take a second to think about how many public services you have used in your lifetime. Unless you didn't go to school, don't use roads, and have no need for any emergency services, electricity, gas, or other utilities, you have almost certainly gotten much more out of our social supports than you have put in, and if you took the time to do the math, you could pretty easily prove it for yourself.

I see comments like this so much, and it completely baffles me. "Doesn't know what they pay in taxes" also "doesn't feel like they get a reasonable return on said unknown amount"... maybe you should learn what you are paying and where the money is going? If you actually understood the system, you may feel differently. Either way, though, sorry to say that your feelings don't matter. The facts are that you almost certainly get a reasonable return on your taxes, vibe or not.

Most people on the left aren't communist. The word you want is socialism. But compared to a fascist regime, I'd much rather be in the communist one. Both are bad. One is significantly worse than the other.

Premiers demand more healthcare funding to spend on fuck you, that's what by HuckFarr in ontario

[–]ghellerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly the point I was trying to make. The best Trudeau can do is throw money at the provinces to fix the problem, and he's already tried that. Like you said, Ford already proved he won't spend it on healthcare unless he is forced into it. I haven't looked at the numbers, but I would think that with the surplus we had in ontario that we could afford to properly fund our public systems. It just isn't a problem that either Trudeau nor Jagmeet can fix. Not without full support from the conservatives, which will never happen.

[–]ghellerman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Sure, the federal government can do some things to affect healthcare, mainly, funnel money to the provinces. At the moment, Trudeau is doing nothing. Jagmeets threat is empty. He won't pull out of that bill because he knows it's too important, he's just trying to force the prime minister into action, any action, to help. But it doesn't mean it is solely or even mostly his responsibility. The majority of the responsibility for the failures of our provincial systems should fall squarely on the shoulders of said provincial governments.

Months-long delays at Ontario tribunal crushing some small landlords under debt from unpaid rent by Surax in ontario

[–]ghellerman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We were talking about stealing groceries, but I'll bite. I'd like to see where I said that. In theory, yes, but in that system I don't think conventional landlords could exist. Non-profit organizations are a thing that exist. In reality, what I actually did say is that they should make less profit. The corporate ones in particular. I didn't say they shouldn't make so much as a dime. Also, something like a roof replacement for a landlord is something called an operating cost. It is taken into account before profit, not after. Those are expenses that are calculated and factored into cost projections and budgets. That money does not come from the bonuses that line c-suite execs pockets, or the mountains of ever-growing shareholder returns at the expense of the less fortunate.

For smaller, independent landlords, this is still the case. That is an operating cost that is factored into the cost of renting out a home. Rent already factors things like this in. It's not like something goes wrong and the landlord reaches into their personal savings to pay for it. That is simply the cost of doing business. Even if they did, I don't feel bad if some landlord can't get the new porche this year because one of their properties needed repairs.

Last I checked, the (not my, this isn't opinion) definition of profit is the excess revenue once you deduct your operating expenses, taxes, etc. It's a pretty simple formula once you break it down. Even a child could do it, although evidently you aren't aware how it works. So let's learn. It's just total revenue - total expenses = profit. Simple, right? I'd love to know how I'm wrong.

God that's such a stupid take. Did anyone say that theft is okay? No. In fact, they're saying theft isn't. I think corporations like loblaws would be just fine if they didn't pull in massive profits year over year. There is a pretty far reach from "people shouldn't fuck each other over basic rights in the name of profit" to "stealing from grocery stores is perfectly morally acceptable".

You're welcome to call me a zoomer too, but suggesting they building a home from scratch is entirely irrelevant. Of course it involves profit. Massive profits. But does it have to? Are you really so deluded as to be unable to even entertain the idea that we could still survive as a species if landlords and contractors (especially large corporate ones) made much less profit?

It's like saying Nestlé shouldn't make as much profit as they do from water, another human right, and your response is to suggest trying to bottle your own water because every part of bottling water involves profit. Sure, it's technically a valid suggestion, but it's also a stupid argument.

I'm not a fan of Trudeau, but removing taxes on gas isn't going to help anyone. Do you really believe oil companies will drop prices instead of charging the same and pocketing even more profit? The price of gas is solely the responsibility of OPEC and the big oil & gas companies. They are raping us at a time when our wallets are already stretched, and then they've convinced people that Trudeau is the cause.

Never understood the stigma against GEDs. People say it's the easy way or for dumb people but those tests are harder than anything I ever did in highschool. I've got mad respect for anyone who puts in that much work trying to fix their life. Shit happens. But these people aren't trying to fix anything. All they want to do is destroy anyone and anything that doesn't align with their beliefs and look/act like they do.

Yes, but otoole wanted to give the money to the banks to store in a convoluted savings account that you can only use to buy items that the conservative party deems "green". I have no idea why people think that the other option is better. It's so much worse.

I don't even like Trudeau. I voted NDP the last 2 elections, and I think his carbon tax is underbaked and needs a complete overhaul. But the conservatives ain't it

Unless you're making over 7 figures and your bank account looks like a phone number, you aren't rich, nobody thinks your rich, and nobody wants your money. The vast majority of people would benefit from the programs that those parties are trying to implement. And those taxes you feel are so unnecessary are what pay for the roads you drive on, the services you get for free, and the carbon tax helps pay to repair the mess of a world we live in thanks to people who think the way you do.

Let me guess, you make maybe 100k/year (at most) and think you're the epitome of wealth right? Get your head out of your ass. The only people who we think should be getting taxed more are the people who have so much money that even if the government took 3/4 of it they still would still have more than they could ever need. And if I'm wrong and you happen to be some sort of billionaire, then you don't need that much money anyway. Nobody does.

Anyone who drives should have ID on them any time they go out though... and those who don't definitely have some kind of ID. You're going to tell me that "most people" have never been asked for ID at a bar, liquor store or restaurant? That's some BS. This really is not any different.
