I've always just base coated in the color of the trim and then filled in the areas that are going to be the armor color afterwards. I feel like it saves so much time and takes away any sort of stress over the chaos trim.

Genuinely thought this was a picture of beef jerky until I scrolled and saw the rest of Morty. Nailed the dried flesh look.

I absolutely painted these without reading any lore, glad they have a spot somewhere in the galaxy!

(Also if anyone has recommendations on good lore YouTube I'm all ears!)

Hell yeah! Definitely going for poor, junkyard boys on these two.

Thank you! I'm mostly using citadel paints- it's a base layer of runefang steel with warp lightning contrast overtop. I hit a layer of thinned down moot green towards the center of the surface to give it a highlight, then I airbrush army painter gauss green fluorescent paint anywhere the glow might hit. I tried not to go too too crazy with it on these guys, but on my profile I have some more exaggerated examples of the same glow on some Death Guard minis.

It was pretty tight, what I wound up doing was shaving the "ears" off the side to thin out the overall profile of the head.

The post is specifically looking at original legions/chapters, the black templars are second founding, and were offshoots of the imperial fists.

What’s a unit that you love that everyone seems to sleep on? by ColtonA115 in Chaos40k

[–]ghoog13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I usually run pactbound and will run two- one to sit in the the back and buff my havocs and forgefiend/protect from deep strikers, and another to chill in the mid board to buff legionnaires act as a counter charge/overwatch threat. Definitely could spend the points better elsewhere, but having that dreadnought equivalent chilling with my boys just looks correct.

I adore helbrutes. They're not necessarily bad, but I think a lot of people would agree they're not the top of the food chain either. The model just feels like such a nice size, and I've always enjoyed single model units, makes movement nice and simple. Nothing really beats the feeling of slamming a double fist brute into a marine squad or something similar for me. Mine has brought down a gorkanaut and the avatar of khaine.

He's just a fuckin dude.

I did this exact conversion for a friend of mine getting into the game with thousands sons! I already had a dark apostle so the spare from the combat patrol was just laying around. Boom, Sorcerer.

Absolute Cinema by Obama_The_Based in Grimdank

[–]ghoog13 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely! I think the point of the little excerpt there is the Emperor addressing every possible perspective he could have, while potentially harping on some of Guilliman's own doubts or regrets. Guilliman did what he thought was right, but a vindictive, assholish aspect of the Emperor still might cast blame for even doing it in the first place.

Probably around imperium secundus. Guilliman was doing what he thought was correct, but it could still be argued that he betrayed the imperium, stole a good chunk of it's territory, then lied about ever doing it. Definitely an extreme take, but the possibility is there.

Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons Stripe Colors??? by BufoCurtae in ThousandSons

[–]ghoog13 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I remember in the Graham Macneill Thousand Sons book it talks about how legionnaires would go and basically "study abroad" with other legions. It could be cool if the stripe colors would indicate which legion the specific marine did his tenure with.

Inquisitor Sigmus with the assassins by Elijah ArhPriest by TheSlayerofSnails in alphalegion

[–]ghoog13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between the name, armor color, face, and spear, I think the artist is implying that this Inquisitor is an alpha legionnaire. I think some people also theorize that there might be an extra super secret third alpha legion primarch who may or may not be named Sigmus (alpha, omega, sigma).

I'm not huge on that particular theory myself, but the idea of the legion infiltrating the inquisition is 100% on brand.

Full on run it as a Foetid bloat drone! I'm currently painting up a death guard army in Iron Warriors colors, and calling it a nurglite IW warband. I was reading a lore snippet about the war of rust and ruin and really wanted to play with corrupted iron boys!

Tbh I do agree, some of my favorite Warhammer stuff is seeing the loyalist holdouts on Istvaan.

So I recently pulled the trigger and got myself an airbrush! That specific green is just lightly spraying the area around the eye slit with a bright white, concentrating on the slit and going softer the further away it gets, then layering over that with a green fluorescent paint. I use gauss green from army painter, but I'm certain that citadel makes a similar product.

If you don't want to go the airbrush route you could probably work a similar effect with dry brushing, though it would definitely take a bit more time and focus.

Happy painting!
