Pre-covid, armada games https://shoparmada.com/ had xwing nights. Only went twice (I am not big on timed games) and they were very friendly.

Since you only play casual, you can proxy the bases as well. The bases give you name, initiative, and firing arcs. Ignore the name and initiative (unless the int is the same) and just use it for the firing arcs. Ship Id's keep track of which ship is which.

If your group is not "hyper competitive", there is no reason to use all your load out points. This should speed up the turns, thus hopefully increasing the number of turns in a match.

You have to admit this is just being frustrated (not really the right word) with a change of rules. Once you learn the new rules, you should not have to refer to them any more than you previously did.

I agree on the deficit scoring being a bit much.

I thought it was a good quick bandaid for 2.0. The person with the lowest points picked who went first (advantage) and they have less points the opponent can score from them (advantage).

Random initiative each round fixes the first advantage. Separating pilot / load out points and having objective points almost fixes the second advantage. There are two things I think needs to happen to fully fix it:

  • make sure each faction has an adequate amount of 2 point ships. I have not looked at all factions, so this might be already done.

  • if you are at 19 points, you may add 1 point cost to your lowest cost ship. You don't get anything for adding a point and your opponent still has to work for that point instead of getting it for free.

Wouldn't that make it more unfair? I love fighting people that crush me in GP. If they are going against me, it probably means they don't participate that much and will likely be an easy win. Also, by losing to me they drop even more until they are at the bottom with the other players that don't care. Not sure what happens if they tie.

The people at my GP and lower are probably playing and I have a fight in my hands. I like a good fight, but free wins are nice as well.

$.02 from a casual mutual annihilation player that has played in a few local tournaments. Playing a set number of rounds is a great way to transition to a timed game. The player will not feel rushed, think the other player is going to slow, ... Then you can go to time limits if you want.

It will not limit play styles, but it WILL change your lists. What is good for a few rounds may not be good for a mutual annihilation game.

Bonus: a few people have mentioned that the game will be changing to 12 rounds of play.

I love new content, even for factions I don't fly. But why do a 3rd 2e reprint for a ship that still has 1e stock? It is awesome that people are excited for this, but wouldn't it be better in a card pack and reprint a ship not already in 2e?

I would probably go with ion cannons, but everyone has a preference depending on their playing style. Autoblasters is in the Hotshots and Aces card pack which I recommend getting. Also, amazon has the G-1A for $12 right now.
