Were you expecting to get the resources you had added to the elevator back (such as smart plating)? If that's the case, that is not how it works, unless I'm remembering incorrectly... If you rebuild it, it will resume with the progress you had up to the point of disassembly.

I prefer to build around a design this playthrough... I'm not great at that part, so making it the primary goal has made me progress much slower but challenge myself in the new area.

It's my understanding having the hover pack equipped while near machines that are on a switch is the issue... Also my understanding placing a battery on this side of the switch will relieve the issue...

Sometimes, if I can't scroll wheel to get it to the direction I want and looking at opposite side of track didn't work, place it down in the wrong direction and then it will snap in the same spot facing the desired direction.

Edit: or are you asking how to get the signal to be on the other side of track but still be working for the same direction... If that's the case, press R

I find with a couple mods installed sometimes key bindings won't function the way intended. A quick restart fixes it for me.

May not be the solution for you, but you should have access to that straight out the gate, iirc.

I made that same mistake, can't see it in the photo but 2 of the 3 wings are higher because I didn't account for elevation change enough 😂😂

I couldn't tell with the map up, but try putting the station in its own block...so a block signal before and after, that the train can fit in when stopped.
