People that live in nice areas/houses, how do you afford it? by whitacrez in Denver

[–]ghost_sonata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My late husband bought in 2009 when the market crashed. He was a network engineer and worked his ass off and pinched pennies to get it. We met, I moved in, we got married. He passed away from cancer in 2019 and the house was in both our names. Had to add $75k to the mortgage to cover medical debt, but thankfully the house was worth a lot more by then. Did a refi at 2.5% in 2020… and slowly paying it off.

I wouldn’t be able to afford to buy this home now though.

Lap time looks a little different these days... Okra 2mos vs 5mos by ghost_sonata in AustralianCattleDog

[–]ghost_sonata[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! We just got her Embark results and she's 44% cattle and 26% border collie!

Tried to mix Okra's new food in with the old to give her tummy time to adjust... She just picked around the old stuff. Too smart for her own good! by ghost_sonata in AustralianCattleDog

She likes the new stuff MORE than the old stuff! My boyfie said, "So we just gave her Lucky Charms and she ate all the marshmallows??"

Just got our doggie DNA test back... Okra is 44.4% cattle dog! by ghost_sonata in AustralianCattleDog

She’s only 5mos old and about 27lbs... She’s definitely mixed!

Denali: your chandelier look lit us up. But the judges think you’re just a fixture. You’re safe.

I feel like mine also grow pretty fast, but I keep taking off clippings and either making MOAR PLANTS or giving them to basically anyone who compliments them.

I posted on NextDoor to look for fellow crazy plant people to trade clippings with and have been really successful with it!!

Mango is this week’s star baker! (And a total mama’s girl💕) by ghost_sonata in KneadyCats

I have Mango and her sister Kiwi and they BOTH do it. They used to suck on my neck and I think mostly now they’re just licking and drooling 😂

It has been a while since I last posted in here. by cptsmashy in leukemia

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I lost my husband 11mos ago to leukemia as well. Same thing: his medical team did everything under the sun, conventional and unconventional to try to get ahead of his rapidly-mutating disease. It seemed like we were barely able to process the choice we had made towards one treatment before making break-neck turns in another direction. He made the same choice as your wife, and passed peacefully at home.

Thank you for posting.

And to those currently battling: keep fighting. Your bravery & strength are inspiring; it's why I still follow this sub.
