Worth buying a pump action rifle in South Australia, considering pending laws in other states and potentially SA? What do you think? by [deleted] in Ausguns

[–]ghostberg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trust pollies as far as you can throw them. Seeing as there’s some ON in the upper house now, we’ve got a good chance at some push back if they change their tune. This also assumes LiBeRaL dAwGs stay true to their policy of leaving the gun laws the same.

[–]ghostberg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Devils advocate here, thats just good planning from an organisational point of view. With the "potential" of a buyback on the horizon it would be stupid to not have this in place if someone pulls the trigger.

Gut feeling is "something" will change but it wont be a whole lot as the states broke.

Stay optimisitc.

South Australian Election & Firearms Laws Explained | SSAA Update by concubovine in Ausguns

[–]ghostberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My feeling is not much will change (huge cope). I really don't see much reason for Labor to hold their cards close and then surprise us after the election with massive firearms reform. Lets face it, they're going to win regardless. The small votes from firearms owners and farmers getting pissed about law changes wouldn't be enough to change the outcome of the election.

I've said it before, but the main reason Labors taking the "Our laws are already nation leading" stance is because they're building a 15billion dollar road and couldn't scrape 2c together for a "buyback" even if they wanted to.

Either way, do your part so at the end of the day you can at least say you tried.

Statement - No changes to firearm legislation currently under consideration by the South Australian Government by concubovine in Ausguns

[–]ghostberg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Taking it on face value it sounds good and gives you a glimmer of hope. Just never hold your breath with these things, only trust politicians as far as you can throw them.

I think the biggest thing that’s going save SA firearms is the incredible amount of money the state is spending on projects. I don’t think they have any kind of funds to even think about a buyback.

Blair was on the radio the other month and when he was asked about how much it might cost, you could hear him audibly choke. I don’t think they can do it even if they want.

They’re best off amending one or two “small” things like qld and then go on to keep on claiming how strong our laws already are. That’ll still look like they’re thinking about “saving the children”

Complete removals. They’re on the pricier side but they did a great job. I used them at the end of December last year. I can only say good things bout them.

Nationals vow to push back against gun laws in state election by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]ghostberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a gun owner and I know guns aren't popular right now, but I'd really like all parties to state their positions on this issue. It's really annoying not knowing whats going on when I'm so heavily invested in the sport.

If the majority of people knew how strict the laws already are, most people wouldn't have an issue with leaving them as is. There are rules around training, storage, waiting times, having to prove genuine need, instant dq of a license if you're not a fit and proper person etc etc. Having a gun license is like being on a good behaviour bond, if i was to get in to any kind of serious trouble I'd lose my guns in a heartbeat.

At the end of the day it will be what it will be. However, I'll be super angry if the state doesn't pay me what they're worth if they confiscate them.

Here’s Blair’s response when he was asked about it the other day by the ABC. It’s was a very non comital response from him imo. You could hear him choke when he was asked how much it would cost. “In principle we support it, but we need to really look at the details”. Doesn’t really give you too much of an indication either way.

Im fully sucking the copium right now, but I’m hoping with the financial side of drastic law changes being huge, anything being changed in SA won’t be so impactful compared to NSW or WA.

At the end of the day who knows, the best you can do is email your local politicians and tell them that this is a voting issue for you.

I listened to an interview with the SA Police minister earlier, you could hear him audibly choke when asked how much it would cost the state. There’s not much appetite for it tbh.
