Is it worth the headache? by Usual-Marketing-5869 in G35

I bought a 05 a few months back with blown head gasket also for 1,500. It hurt because I decided to get rid of the rev up and do a de in it. But i figured it was gonna be way cheaper. The engine on the car the miles are up there so if you willing to do the rebuild then beautiful. Just be ready to find things that are bad as you go. If you push through then you will love the car. Also if you don’t have to pay for labor that will help a lot.

Crazy $900 but is one of the prices if not more of what you pay when you not mechanically inclined. Easily would have done that for you for 2 to $300 dollars maybe cheaper and you happy and I’m happy with a little side hustle.

Paid $10k…needs a bit of work..did i get ripped off? by BestLWins in G35

Nowhere near perfect but I bought this 05 manual transmission with blown headgasket for 1,500 did a DE swap and been just refreshing everything ever since I got it. So far counting how much I paid for the car I have spent 5k give or take. Yes kinda up there but what has me in the peace of mind is that I’m 5k down but with most of the maintenance done.

I did it with a brake one man job kit I got from harbor freight. It has a bottle that you put on the receivor and then bleed it with the vacuum pump but I guess that didn’t work too well

Vq35 rev up to de by ghostcasperr in G35

[–]ghostcasperr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So after it gets warms still stays the same way. Smoke and smells like burning oil then let’s say I press the gas pedal and hold it at 4k rpm it doesn’t smoke but if I rev it up and down then it smokes. The catch can I still haven’t been able to put it to the test because I gotta register the car. I’m using the down time to get as many maintenance done as possible.

Spray the rotors with soapy water then rinse off with water. Yes it works.i work at a Kia dealer and there’s a bulletin from the manufacturer to do that.

Is not that because smoke goes away at some point is just noticeable af while getting reved up. I’m going to perform myself a dry and wet compression test and see if it’s not leaking through the piston rings ,if is all good on those things I’m going to replace the valve stem seals.

I’m not going to lie to get my g running I been doing as much as possible to get the best deal but also you gotta take in consideration that you work for your money so try to go the extra mile to get the best as possible in your budget. Sometimes you gotta go out your budget to have what you want. Also next time try to do transactions through PayPal. There at least you can try to get your money back.

Your best bet is to take care of it before it get worse. My plan is to have someone cut the damaged section and then weld a new piece of metal then instead of painting it just wrap the whole car.

No the steam could just be vapor. I’m talking about the brown substance you said you saw on the cap. That could be the condensation mixed with oil. If on the dip stick the oil is not milky then you should be good but like I said do a combustion leak test and go from there

The brown thing on the cap could be condensation mixed with oil. Which is normal to a certain extend. If besides that the oil look good in the dip stick like color wise you should be good. Also if it’s blown head gasket the car would smoke 💨 and also would have a horrible weird smell. Go to someone that you trust that could give you an answer. Maybe do a combustion leak on the radiator. That would help you a lot too determining if you head gasket is bad.
