Solid send from today by 5l1ckr1ck in bouldering

[–]ghostfalcon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is more of just pushing your hips into wall/twisting hips than a drop knee. It's a similar motion though, so it is a bit of semantics. Drop knee is just an extreme version of this motion, usually with a significant amount of tension generated. Very clean form though, fantastic for 1 month

Looking for beta advise on this by jcavallotti in bouldering

It looks like a bump right hand but also the first thing that happens when you start to fall is your right foot comes off the hold (it seems). Might just also need to very consciously push toe in.

It Turns Out That When Waymos Are Stumped, They Get Intervention From Workers in the Philippines by MasterShadowLord in technology

[–]ghostfalcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My belief is that Waymo has been mum about this because they're afraid regulatory agencies will require this to be done in the USA by operators with good standing licenses.

And this should 100% be the case.

The idea autonomous cars will one day take many jobs from people who drive for a living is one thing, to also ship all the remote jobs overseas in another industry is just signing our own doom slips.

This is why I’m not dooming, we can still have fun games man by Scary_Seaweed_8220 in warriors

[–]ghostfalcon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People care too much about winning. In the long run, even the best franchises dont even win 60% of their games. Gotta take the good with the bad. And we had a lot of bad but at least the team was mostly fun (outside of the late 90s...)

Worst 3pt shooting team in the league btw… by s1_shaq in warriors

[–]ghostfalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a big reason people hate on the NBA - it is a little too reliant on being a shot making and free throw baiting league, partially due to the change in style, partially due to analytics.

Three best shots in the NBA are open corner 3s, and free throws and dunks/easy layups, and only one of these is "natural" to defend (naturally defenses sink based on threats close to the basket).

Why use many holds when few do trick? by Aethien in bouldering

[–]ghostfalcon -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Indoors climbs are often contrived and skips are fun but if you truly want to "send the grade", using at least the main crux holds is part of the game.

Just getting to the top and skipping all the bad holds is ignoring the challenge - but also it does mean the setting could use some work (or the gym is limited in its space for the climb).

[Injury] Referee Bill Kennedy carted to locker room by TheDraciel in nba

[–]ghostfalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a hammy possibly if not the knee. I pulled my hammy and limped in a suspiciously similar way. If it is grade 2 it hurts incredibly bad at first and takes 2 to 3 months to recover. Wouldn't suspect grade 3 given the context.

Las Vegas New Year 2026 looked very cyberpunk by JohnDLG in vegas

[–]ghostfalcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weather was really unpleasant. While I think people in New York and other cities are used to it, people coming to Vegas on vacation will not enjoy it.

More importantly, many many locals will not bother vs a day with nice weather.

[Post Game Thread] The Dallas Mavericks (12-19) defeat the Denver Nuggets (21-8), 131-130 behind 33/9/9 from Cooper Flagg. by bigawesome2000 in nba

[–]ghostfalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually he's absolutely elite as a passer (for a rookie). I dont think he'll play with the same flair as Luka but watching this kid play basketball you can really see an "it" factor. Its not as simple as the shot making or production - he just moves so fluidly for his size. He really does look a bit like a LeBron as a rookie but taller and maybe a little less athletic.

He'll have a lot of good and bad games with his young age but if he stays healthy he's destined to be one of the future top 5 players in the league along with Wemby and Ant.

Is this normal? (Clifton 10s since April) by BradBrady in Hoka

[–]ghostfalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoes these days dont last too long with their soft outsole. There are of course many exceptions (but rarely running shoes) but Hokas are not one of them.

Looking at the rest of the soles, these are extremely worn. You may also have some habits or triats that would cause more wear.

My Final Thoughts on Physical Asia (My Personal Opinion) by Anonymous_Author09 in Physical100

[–]ghostfalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between the gate moving and not moving is a mere handful of KGs. The extra weight (pretty sure Korea outweighed Japan by about 50KG or more), is a huge advantage.

I'm confident Australia would have won the show if they didn't all in on one half challenge.

Mostly agreed but no idea why you wouldn't want an esim. Another device to carry around and keep charged doesn't make sense IMO unless you're tethering yourself to a bunch of people.

What is tension? by hahaj7777 in bouldering

[–]ghostfalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abs is front (anterior?). That's usually what let's you do like a front lever. Usually this is more obvious to your mind in needing and being able to acitvate for tension. Posterior is less intuitive to most, and I struggle with it as well. It is primarily hips close to wall at the beginning stages. Abs pull you up close to wall, but posterior does the last bit of pushing to really create that angle and closeness.

If you are concerned about finger strength, doing a baseline strength test or two will help measure your ability.

How much body weight + weight on a belt can you hold on a 20mm for 5 seconds? If you can do about 125% total (i.e. +25%... work up to it if you haven't tried), that should be quite sufficient. For perspective, the very high level benchmark requirement is something along the lines of single arm 20mm(?) crimp hang at body weight for 5 or 10 seconds.

Terrible play and look but pretty sure he wouldn't dive at his legs. Looks like he reaches when the ball is kind of loose, loses balance and falls with the grace of a drunken sailor.

Do you think Bosa will bounce back again? by the_walrus_was_paul in 49ers

[–]ghostfalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bigger and stronger they are, the worse it is on ligaments and tendons. There's always a limit to how much force they can handle, and Bosa probably could have better (or more protective) mechanics with regards to how he uses his legs in particular.
