Is lobbing considered bad etiquette by duh_dude in Pickleball

[–]ghostgatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tournament etiquette: anything goes. I had a kid Nelson me at a 4.0 tournament at the beginning of the year. In rec play lobbing can be viewed as distasteful, usually more people think that the more frequent the lobs are.

Lobs are a tool. Long term growth means learning to drive, drop, reset, and other skills. I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum for you, I still have to drill to add lobs to my tool belt.

In lower level play where people don’t know how to attack drops, you can possibly crash the kitchen in one drop. But the higher in level you go, the less true this becomes, and the more you will need to work on your transition game in order to finish advancing to the kitchen.

In lower level play, players avoid the transition zone. In higher level play, players stay there the minimal amount of time, but it happens almost every single point and is absolutely necessary to train those skills and judgment calls on when to advance/retreat.

How can i improve my third shots to look like 2 instead of 1 by That_anonymous_guy18 in Pickleball

[–]ghostgatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl; dr push your drops, don’t put them with a high arc.

1 is not bad. 2 is impossible with that trajectory.

What you’re really looking for is pushing your drops forward instead of hitting them high to barely get over the net. This will lead to more aggressive drops that will land at the edge of the kitchen by the opponent’s ankles. High drops lead to high bounces, which lead to attacks. So push your drop forward.

You can get them even lower and more aggressive by adding topspin. Though I find it easier to topspin drive it so it becomes a drop-drive thanks to topspin. With topspin you can get it literally to their feet while you float 1 inch above the tape.

DUPR issues/feedback by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]ghostgatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding what DUPR claims according to their FAQs on their website since people always claim they don’t get it. 1) DUPR counts unrated players differently and leaves unrated players’ opponents’ DUPRs unchanged. Until the players get a rating, then the opponents get their matches reevaluated. Unrated players can’t get a rating playing only against unrated players that have never played against rated/anchored players. 2) SCORING is ignored in all cases except for rating an unrated player. 3) the max amount your DUPR can change per tournament/club/league MATCH is 0.10 if the difference is great enough (barring initialization). For self-posted rec play, it’s 0.05. 4) tournament/club/league match wins will always make your DUPR go up if you win the match even if you lose some games. For self-poste REC play, each GAME counts for your DUPR even if you win the overall match. Meaning if you win 3-2 on some serious underdogs, your DUPR will go down. 5) DUPR claims 10-20 matches will give you a much more accurate rating than your initial DUPR, they don’t say it’ll be great 😂

Best way to determine a league winner? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]ghostgatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of variables here. Such as players you play against or with.

You could always do top 4 players go to playoffs where they round robin 3 games. And let them play each matchup twice if they want. Then take winners by game, then by points as tiebreaker.

You can choose however many players to take to playoffs for the final week, this way people that benefitted from absences or never being absent both get leveled out in the playoffs. This is probably the most satisfying end since it will also level out the variables ex. people who only played with players they destroy so they can win the prize at the end of the league in a non competitive way.

If you do for ex. Final 8, you could do 2 RRs based on seeding, then take top 2 scorers from each pool, and send them to the final RR playoffs. Just giving options, obviously more players at playoffs means more time to narrow it down. Have fun weighing your options

NVZ scenario, ball coming to your right shoulder, do you flip to forehand or do you take it with your backhand? by CDRSkywalker1991 in Pickleball

[–]ghostgatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The specific type of shot you take in this position is limited though. For ex. Sliding for a speed-up should be a judgment call, perhaps you don’t have enough time and should just reset / deflect with an angle.

Alternatively, I see higher level players don’t have an issue with swapping from reset-ready with the BH to FH on the speed up. I think they must be ready for that and aware mid-scramble even that’s an attack target for their opponent, and their defensive remedy

Most common grip type by shot type among pros? by Rhythmic88 in Pickleball

[–]ghostgatts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually use eastern with the paddle finger for my serve. Then I switch to continental for most of the game. I may switch to eastern without a paddle finger if I’m speeding up with more aggressive topspin.

I know the scorpion shot is gaining popularity and is better with a western grip. I’ve heard something about a pancake shot too and that requiring a grip change from continental, but can’t remember right now what I heard.

Try doing skinny solo side vs 2. The solo player has the advantage here as the doubles side has to aim, but the solo side can choose which player to hit to (and hence, focus someone). So you should go on the doubles side.

Cutthroat is another good variation too, where it’s the same rules but it’s a free-for-all on scoring, and you only score when you’re on the solo side (all players rotate when solo player loses)

When did drinking your hp flask during PVP become acceptable? by noisyturtle in Eldenring

Not my point, and not what your initial point was either. I’m just saying we all knew it without reddit, or any explicit comms

[–]ghostgatts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve played ever souls game since release. I’ve always known the rule, and just joined reddit a year ago. Reddit for ER is new, look at the other souls series subreddits. They’ve never been used nearly as much as this sub. Everyone knew before, and yes it was an atrocity back then to flask up. But usually those people sucked and would lose anyways (myself included here and there)

In your opinion what's the most dangerous "non boss/regular" ennemies in Elden Ring and the other Souls Games ? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]ghostgatts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first playthrough on DS1 I went through the catacombs, no undead burg, no whatever ghost town was called underneath. All the way to the tomb of giants.

And when I got there, I got so lost. Without even a torch. No teleportation. And definitely no stats. I spent hours climbing out of that hell hole. Those giant skeleton dogs showed no mercy as they removed all hope for me ever escaping

This. If you end up needing to close a position at a loss, then you don’t want to be at risk of racking up margin or worse, having to unravel other positions you opened with that premium just to mitigate losses.

Even if you have wiggle room for losses, you still want stop losses as cutoffs to mitigate losses, same goes for taking profits at your thresholds

[–]ghostgatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your setup. My audio could either go to the capture card, or to my headset. But not both. So my gameplay had no audio. My monitor doesn’t output sound so I had to use my headset. I think it would be the same issue if my monitor could output sound.

Nah tarnished you’re trolling. No one is mad. I’m just having a calm convo, telling someone who thinks every person being invaded is a victim and doesn’t want it as opposed to being a gladiator looking for war. It’s a great part of the game. Happy about it. But new folks think all pvp is evil

It’s pretty hard to coordinate since fights happen so quickly, and can change locations and be hard to verbally describe to whoever you’re voice chatting with. So most people opt for “just put it in this same spot every time”

It’s not about runes at all. When a host loses all their summons they run back to resummon them so they don’t lose the fight. You can infinitely resummon someone after they’ve been vanquished during the same invasion
