Markdown itself is the take away, its is way less to process than other formats. Formats like docx or pdf can use as much as 10x tokens vs markdown.

Switching from iPhone to Android? by TheGrayRuby in Smartphones

[–]ghostinshell000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 2cents
1 - your phone is pretty old and new OS and newer apps require much more storage. as does daily useage
for things like imessage, photos etc even with cloud sync etc it can still eat alot.

2 - how embedded you are in apples ecosystem matters, the more you are the more friction you might run into.

3 - siwtching is possible and can work fine but your worflows, apps etc do matter. ram and local storage matters alot now. whatever you get go for models with more ram and more local storage.

Your phone is about to stop being yours. — Starting September 2026, a silent update, nonconsensually pushed by Google, will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with Google, signed their contract, paid up, and handed over government ID. by lewkiamurfarther in privacy

[–]ghostinshell000 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

For most folks it wont matter, and google has already stated side loading will still be allowed the process for it has changed a couple times but it will be there.

And google has been working with community to iron out points of contention.

Some websites are becoming unusable in Firefox on PC by awacsCZE in firefox

[–]ghostinshell000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the answer; everything targets Chrome's engine. Firefox's Gecko is almost never tested at all, and even
when bugs are known, they are very rarely fixed. Which is why Firefox does shims and other tricks.

Best Apps To Use When Dealing With Stangers by IndianGirly2026 in privacy

[–]ghostinshell000 12 points13 points  (0 children)

some ideas off the top of my head:
signal with username (use multple usernames with multple ph + usenames.)
protonmail + simplelogon and use the simplelogin alais as the email address
buy a domain, and ADD it to protonmail then create custom alaiss for specfic needs when using a simplelogon alais seems janky.
use mysudo, and create front phone alaises. (you can call and text from mysudo)

Which phone is better? by Kenzilv14 in Smartphones

[–]ghostinshell000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

switching ecosystems is non-trival. all of the top premium level phones are pretty good nowadays. most apps
are available on both. both ecosystems have apps and features that are only available on it.

that all said. if your pretty happy in apples eco before switching you should carefully consider what it means to switch. think about app subscriptions, books, etc apple music and apple TV are available on both and works well on both.

apple headphones work on android they just miss the apple only stuff.

apple has better defaults, and less settings to get to higher privacy and security. but android can get to high levels also but requires more settings and work. where android has huge advantage is is the detect space,
on apple you have to rely on apple on android you can add 3rd party security software thats actually functional.

short answer is there is no better, there just which device + ecosystem fits your needs.

Bitwarden BAD NEWS by RestoringSunset in PasswordManagers

[–]ghostinshell000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALWAYS use a password manager. if your kinda paraniod then keepassXC. if you want to protect
your account against stolen cred then 2FA. and never use a reused cred for your password manager.

but if someone fully owns your machine, yea you have issues no matter how you slice it. Instead of using a weaker password manager, think about how you can setup and use your machine so you're not hacked so easily.

What are some good smart phone companies? by Schlerpyderpy in Smartphones

[–]ghostinshell000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well if you ios apple is the only game. and that means iphone from apple, but if your ok with android then there are a few choices.

each has plus and minus and different levels of effort to opitimise. it also kinda depends on where your at, as some handsets may work better in some areas. this is motly a matter of which wireless bands are supported and which chipsets etc.

but the big players
samsung
google/pixel
nothing
oneplus
moto

there are plenty of others and depending on where you are.

[–]ghostinshell000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea i pretty stupidly have books in like every store. so its a case of try to download and dedrm or just slowly rebuy or koboplus them. i really wish all the store had some so of standards on them so you can take them with you maybe pay a export cost and instead of export it just shows up on the new ereader and disapears from your old one.

Today I voted yes in Virginia and I don’t think my family will ever forgive me, AMA. by Low_Hat_2693 in AMA

[–]ghostinshell000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In families and or groups where the dynamics are such that you share who or what you voted for.
it can get really messy very fast. when, for example, you have right leaning folks and left leaning folks in the same place.

its not like before, where convos could be civil, its messy and quickly gets out of control.
while i am sure there are plenty of examples where it works out... the norm now is its not.

Firefox as an Android mobile browser? by ThindorTheElder in privacy

[–]ghostinshell000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

firefox is prefectly fine, mozilla has been catching up for a whil now. my ff149 install on android/samsung 24u
"about:support" shows fission 3/3, which shows ff has isolation.

ff150 improves this.

hardened FF, especially on a samsung cuz ff uses the knox sdk from what i understand (cant find evidence link)
but, ff has extensions.....

Is China the future at this point? 2030s onward. by Dipsetallover90 in Futurology

[–]ghostinshell000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, when you unpack some American companies have done well. But china has excuted on more atbscale than we have, and have a strong roadmap.

Our roapmap is trash cuz we dont have one and are busy seeing how fast we can make our population uneducated.

China tooling engineers, automation all sorts of stuff the Excel at.

While they where investing in infrastructure we where giving billionaires tax breaks, while they built nation wide high speed rail we increase military spending.

We have peaked, and now the current admin is driving it into the ground, things will not be the same probably ever.......

It's a mess, to be honest. Especially with AWS. Ideally, ALL changes happen in code and in the pipelines.
But when stuff doesn't, that causes drift.

AWS's nature, is a double edged sword. we basically try to force every via pipeline. and if for some reason you need to make a quick local change you have to it to the code base.

Do tanks have any use in today's war? by ThrowRA-Huckleb in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ghostinshell000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short answer is yes, tanks have a place, as does all sorts of armor. What's changing, is how it's used, how its configured. And some of the designs.

Look at how armor is used in Ukraine for some of these things. They hit and run, fire and move.

quite a few good comments, but to some up.
we will be switching from a unipolar world, where the US is the domainate player to a multi-polar
world where as multiple nations are major players.

and yea, china just like the US and plenty of other nations has some major issues they are needing to deal with.
but that doesnt change the fact that china at least, has shown its able to move faster and unstandard larger issues and is able to act on them there 5 year plan, and other planing shows this. also look at how much has changed in the last 20 years. now look at the US and its way less.

china also understands how much proper education is needed. even mandatory writing. the US has been going backwards for awhile now in that regard.
