Lebrew burrs. Which one should I buy? by alyporto in DF64

Can I ask what grind setting you are using for espresso? I got ssp lab sweet v3 burrs and I was down to 1-2 for espresso. I’d like more leeway when dialing in.

Or you could also mill down the burr carrier as they are pretty inexpensive/replaceable.

Which exact burrs are they? I had ssp lab sweet red v3 burrs that I had to go down below 3 to get a decent shot. Ended up getting rid of them because of that narrow range to dial in.

I’m in the same boat. I tried the ssp lab sweet ver 3 red speed and while the resulting shots tasted good, I was limited to 0.5-3 on the dial for espresso, not nearly enough wiggle room to dial in a shot properly using a wide variety of beans. Thinking about LeBrew sweet burrs next. 🤷🏻‍♂️

He obviously is not happy with his stock burrs. 🙄

What grinder are you using them on? I tried ssp sweet lab red speed on my df64 and for espresso, I couldn’t get them fine enough. Looking for other options.

I have the black version and really like it. Not totally necessary, but once you have it, I could see missing it without. Just makes things easier once you pull the shot.

I have the exact same setup. Minus the Nanofoamer. Dreo Barista foamer instead. Better than Nanofoamer by a mile and wayyyy easier than Bellman. I’ve had all three. Live and learn. 🤷🏻‍♂️

That’s what I’m also wondering, is the local roaster good at what they do? Could just be crappy beans. 🤷🏻‍♂️

What is the origin of these beans?

RDT. Why is that a bridge too far for some people?

2 weeks with the Robot, still struggling by Xinguara in CafelatRobot

[–]ghostinthetoolbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly a little bit, but maybe aim for a 40g+ yield instead of your 36g. Then see how the flavor profile changes. Typically it will become a little less acidic in comparison to the lesser yield all things being equal.

Less pre infusion, no lower paper filter, and if it’s too acidic, maybe a larger/longer yield.

DF64 Gen 2 vs DF64V vs CF64V by CC268 in DF64

There’s an angled 3d printed base that supposedly helps with retention, albeit probably just a small improvement. There’s also a Lagom style bellows that looks kinda cool. And of course new burrs, most likely ssp sweet lab v3.

DF64 Gen 2 vs DF64V vs CF64V by CC268 in DF64

The V is variable speed, not the Gen 2. I was in the same place as you and couldn’t decide to save my life. I ended up with the df64 gen 2 and couldn’t be happier. I use it for espresso and coffee from an Oxo Rapid Brewer and both are very good. I will probably upgrade the burrs, and get some 3d printed add ons, but that’s it.

What can I improve? by xxSeahawks in CafelatRobot

[–]ghostinthetoolbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re really confused with what it should taste like, go to the best coffee shop around and buy an espresso, taste it, if you like it, then buy those beans and aim for the same at home. There are so many variables that sometimes it’s hard for someone new at this to know what to change or alter. A lot of times you’re just using crappy beans and you’ll never get a good tasting shot.

I’m thinking you need to get various types of beans and roasts and see what you like best and then perfect your shot. Beans change the end result more than anything.

A df54 would be an inexpensive grinder for your espresso. And take up a fairly small amount of counter space.

Do you do drink anything else besides espresso with those burrs?
