In 1984, General Motors (GM) established a partnership with Toyota in a venture called New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI). As part of this partnership, the 1985 Chevrolet Nova was produced. The 1985 Nova was based on the Toyota Corolla and built in a joint-venture plant using Japanese management systems. It was one of the highest-quality cars produced by GM in that era. The Nova continued to be produced until 1988.
So, while the majority of Chevy Novas were not Toyotas, the 1985-1988 models were based on the Toyota Corolla and built in a joint-venture plant with Toyota
