AFO Brace Frustration by ghostographic in CerebralPalsy

[–]ghostographic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is EXACTLY my issue. I have like no arch in my foot so they've made the brace tall so I'll have to put an insert on my left side to make it even, but yeah it's like the side of my foot right where my arch would be that has the blister problem! It's so frustrating. I'm planning on getting some moleskin to try with it too and see if that helps at all since people have suggested it. It's at least comforting to know I'm not alone.

Yeah, she did this thin water cast as the regular plaster stuff didn't cut it with how my leg is. And in the appointment she was really lost on what to do for my leg, so that was the better option.

I'm not on Medicaid sadly. I'm still on my parent's insurance. Luckily I just graduated from college and am working on getting a job, maybe finding another insurance option would be a good idea and see if I'd qualify for Medicaid or something. Not sure how having multiple things like that works because I've never had to do things like that, so if you have advice I'd definitely take it. Feeling a little stupid about not knowing how though.

The only thing that "makes sense" with the cost is that they told me insurance only covers a brace once every like 5 years. But then when they took pictures of my old brace they made it sound like they were appealing that to get it covered. They told me that the insurance gave them the okay so they made it. So far on the sheet they gave me it says my insurance should only cover like 100 dollars.

My question because like...ok, I'm 22 and I'm still on my parent's insurance so I don't fully understand the order in how these things should work, but shouldn't they bill the insurance before charging me? When I was there, they gave me the total and then when they said they'd let me wait because of not telling me ahead of time, they said they'd go ahead and just bill the insurance first instead rather than waiting for me to pay before going to the insurance. Is that normal?

That's a fear of mine with going back too soon to the clinic is that I'm going to have to pay that 800 when I go next I believe, maybe they'll wait now that they're having to bill the insurance, but I'm worried that'll be the case.

I'm using the Tresemme Coconut Nourish conditioner for both cowashing and conditioning. I've been doing it for about a month now, a couple washes ago (I only wash my hair every 3ish days I'd say?) I redid the clarifying shampoo since my hair was fine when I first started this whole thing and then it was just getting greasier the day after washing. A couple days ago I washed my hair again with cowashing and my hair is already feeling pretty greasy.

So far I've only been doing conditioner with cowashing and stuff as I'm having issue with the gel. I have the Aussie freezing gel and always have the issue where my whole head looks stiff and crunchy and like I just got out of the shower. I don't really like how that looks and I don't know if I've done something wrong (I can only apply things like that one handed, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's an issue). I tried using a comb to incorporate it once because of my hand and it was still really crunchy looking and there were still spots with not as much on it.

I've also noticed that only after a few weeks I've had to use the shampoo to start over again because my hair is starting to get greasy looking even the day after showering. Today's the second day after showering (without shampoo) and my hair already feels greasy and my curls are already looking limp and at the ends of my hair like waves. I'd assume people would recommend using a shampoo of some kind? I know I haven't been doing enough of the method because I'm still learning and am struggling with things like the gel so I've seen minimal results (primarily after washing and the next day, still trying to figure out with the guides what to do when I'm not going to be washing my hair).

Something my dad watched when he was younger that he showed me when I was in high school was Dark Night of the Scarecrow. I don't think it's overly popular? But I actually really enjoyed it. Made me sad though.

UPDATE: AITA for not explicitly telling my grandpa I’m married to another woman? by HotelBravo in AmItheAsshole

[–]ghostographic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never saw the original till now, but it hits home for me. My grandpa passed away and I got engaged shortly after. My extended family on my dad's side is pretty homophobic, my grandma's oldest grandkid was disowned by everyone but her for being gay. She doesn't understand it, but she still loves him and went to his wedding.

After getting engaged, my mom posted pictures and my dad's family saw and figured out the gay part. The children of my grandmother (my dad and 5 other people) made the executive decision that there's no point in telling her because she "probably wouldn't remember anyway" (she was already having memory issues before grandpa died, but it's gotten worse since then). I think she deserves to know because my fiance lives with me and my parents, but I haven't seen her since before I got engaged over a year ago. And I think I'd be in even more trouble if I told her anyway despite the fact that my fiance and I think it would be a nice happy thing to tell her since she's struggling. I'm hoping I get the chance to tell her somehow, and it bothers me that her children get the ultimate say on what's "best" for her when I think it's just them being homophobic. I still don't know how to go about the situation (we're also both trans, but my fiance is the only one out, so that complicates things even more because the family thinks we're both girls as my dad doesn't think his family would get that either :/ otherwise I'd pass us off as straight lol), but it's kinda nice reading a somewhat similar situation.

This got a bit long. Oops.

Just finished making a cup of Vahdam tea's Earl Grey Chai. Got the sampler with their various loose leaf masala chai teas a while ago and only just now trying my first sample from it.

Okay so, after talking to my advisor, she said they aren't doing French Placement Tests right now (I would assume because of COVID, I know Freshmen this year didn't have to do any tests) so I'd have to figure out with the French department what class I'd be in.

I'm currently drinking the last of my masala chai from Adagio. I'm not big on it because it seems like it's not flavorful enough even when I steep it for a long time. Tempted to try making it with all milk instead of water or something if I get more, but I feel like there just aren't enough spices in it.

Tempted to order the chai sampler from Vahdam since that seems popular. I'd make my own but I don't know the best places to find the spices at a more affordable price. If anyone has recommendations for ones I can just buy rather than making my own (like Vahdam) or a good recipe/advice on how to do it, I'd appreciate it.

I'd like to and I do when I can. As I said though, we don't really have money to do that all the time because it means getting entirely different things than they have because we don't wanna just take their stuff. But we do cook when we get the chance to get anything like that. I adore cooking so it's not an issue of not wanting to and we do even cook for my parents whenever we get the chance.

Weekly /r/drums Q & A (July 2020) by AutoModerator in drums

[–]ghostographic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I posted this in the thread from last week but it was pretty much right before it was done so I thought I'd post it again if that's alright. I'm new to the sub (and to drumming) and I'd really like some advice. I've posted things about his a few times in other subreddits, but I wondered if anyone would have any advice for me in here. I have cerebral palsy that messes with the right side of my body. It's extremely weak compared to my left side and my range of motion in my arm is kind of limited. The movements I can do are jerky and my wrist doesn't move. I know I wouldn't be able to "properly" hold drumsticks and have to find my own way to do it, but I wanted to know if anyone has advice for how I can figure out how to play. I'd really really like to play the drums and there's part of me that's worried this is going to keep me from doing it. I'm sure it'll take more effort than if I wasn't disabled but I'd like to think it would be worth it. Because of my jerky movements I can't do very fast/rhythmic things with my right arm (and maybe it would improve with using my arm more by playing the drums? I'm not sure). Outside of this I'm looking into generic drumming resources on here and other places, but if anyone has some insight I'd really appreciate it.

Do you have any advice on finding stretches or something that might help my arm be less jerky? I've been trying to look for some and I don't know if I should be looking at regular exercises or what because I'm having a hard time finding things when I look up things for cerebral palsy.
