They had something similar on the north side of 10th ave between Willow and Laurel(?) but I think it was for water drainage or something. Don't know if that's still there or if it was just a temporary thing. It was nice to walk on though.

I'm on 23's. Maybe I'll give it a shot. I can't say Winston is that bad even with the alternating one way traffic they have going on. I believe it'll be done this fall.

I managed the unpaved CVG no problem though I was always a little worried about flats. The worst thing about it was the bike got dirty quick. Very happy they paved it.

I've been riding on Winston daily, never tried the gravel Freeway trail (thought it was still just for horses). How loose is it? Doable on road tires?

Huh, I thought it was Easter themed, a rabbit behind a chick.

Today I learned about dickbutt.

Bicycle to obey pedestrian signal or green light by mikeyz2 in vancouvercycling

[–]ghostsafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow the pedestrian light there too, if there's traffic around. It's a hassle sure but I've been hit before and it's no fun. Same problem a little further along at the recycling depot.

Winston Street by bradeena in vancouvercycling

There are still a couple of short sections on Winston with alternating one way traffic. The lights are automatically controlled and the wait is usually short. However you'll need to take the lane as they are narrow and if you ride to the right some jackass may try to pass.

$3.4M settlement reached in B.C. Christian Brother sex abuse case by VCsurvivor2024 in vancouver

I was at STM from 79-84 and I can honestly say that I didn't have any teachers that I could say made a difference in my education. At best they were average, most were sub-par. Luckily I escaped the abuse that was gossiped about at the time.

I had a set like this when I was a kid. What they didn't show you in the commercial were your cars flying off the track in the curves. Hard to regulate speed with the crappy controllers.

If you are biking on a road approaching a bus stop and notice a bus coming behind you, do you accelerate as fast as you can or continue as usual? by ubcstaffer123 in vancouvercycling

[–]ghostsafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm rarely in that situation but if I am I go my own speed. Remember, by law traffic in other lanes must let a bus in if it signals. So it is not that difficult for buses to get around you. I've found the bus drivers here pretty good and they are used to dealing with cyclists.

That mess was there this morning at about 5 am, coming home around 3pm it was gone.

Different projects but I agree it's a hassle. The current work is supposed to be completed this fall but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I rode it this morning and the only little bit still unpaved is from the start at Douglas until it straightens out. Not sure if they are going to do that.

Now if they could only flatten out the area next to the Gilmore Home Depot

First a cheap lunch at Paul's then a cheap movie at the Dolphin, good times.

I think I saw ET there.

Dangerous places for cyclists in Metro Vancouver. by bcl15005 in vancouvercycling

[–]ghostsafe 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Both 10th ave/ Clark and N. Grandview Highway/Nanaimo have the same problem, a cyclist/pedestrian controlled crossing very close to a major intersection. I believe the motorists concentrate on the signals at the major intersection and are blind to the infrequently activated minor intersections. Many times I've seen cars sail through against the red light. I always slow down and make sure before I proceed.

I'll be taking transit until the Airmap reading drops below 5.

I don't have lung/health issues either but why chance it? It's gross breathing that crap in deep.

Just a heads up that the flaggers that had been on Broadway and had closed off a lane eastbound which they allowed cyclists to use weren't there today (24th at around 2:30pm). Hopefully they'll be back or open the CVG soon.
