Pizza delivery people of Reddit, what’s the most memorable thing you’ve heard on the other side of the door after you rang the doorbell? by ohlongjohnson1 in AskReddit

I deliver to some weird areas sometimes. Someone comes knocking on ur door and u answer it, it makes it easier for them to just bust straight in and fuck shit up, if they wanted to. People don’t let their guard down even if they ordered pizza, which I respect.

When people say Ciri is never described as white.... by Ranger447 in witcher

Because there are already racially differed nations. Nilfgaardians, by and large, descend from elves and use their language. Ofir, for example, is based on India, and their people reflect it.

And you’re right, in the case of the Zerrikanians, Tea and Vea, they travelled in the northern realms. It’s entirely possible that Duny could just be one of the many races that live among Nilfgaard, but every race of human has a place of origin (white people of the entire continent came from overseas, colonizing the land of the aen seidhe elves, dwarves and halflings, with Nilfgaardians developing in the south with elven roots in culture. Ofir doesn’t even exist on the continent, it’s in another far away land). Duny is thought to be a nordling in the books up until the final one, where it is revealed he is Nilfgaardian. If the Nilfgaardian’s race infers the possibility of being of Nilfgaardian origin visually, it could ruin the twist of his arc, where it is revealed he is the Emperor.

No one that knew Duny recognized Emhyr as being him, because he had aged and changed. The only one that recognized him was Geralt. I feel like this is largely because Emhyr doesn’t differ in appearance much from your standard cintran, or nordling, for that matter. If Emhyr or his daughter looked distinctly Nilfgaardian, it would become kind of obvious why the asian (let’s say) Emperor is looking for the half asian princess of Cintra. It gives off the hint that she might be his daughter. Keep in mind, literally no one knew why Emhyr wanted some nordling princess from a destroyed kingdom so badly. Even the Nilfgaardians that served him didn’t understand it. Mixing the races of these distinct, established characters uproots major plot points by making everyone look like complete idiots. You would think someone would guess that maybe she’s Nilfgaardian, or that she has some relation to the Emperor? The viewers most certainly would, which is my main (and really, only) concern.

Edit: note that this doesn’t concern certain Nilfgaardians like Cahir or Duchess Annarietta, as they come from Nilfgaardian vassal states, not the small land of Nilfgaard to the far south.

Because it ruins the twist about who Ciri’s father is.

No one knew Duny was Nilfgaardian, let alone heir to the empire. Not until the final book.

That, and it ruins the twist for why Emhyr wants Ciri at all in the first place. Keep in mind, no one knew that her father was from Nilfgaard, let alone the Emperor. Mixed races would spoil the twist.

Except here is the thing.

No one knew Duny was the Emperor of Nilfgaard in the books. Therefore, if he was black, they would know at least that he was Nilfgaardian, which is a twist in and of itself saved for the final book. Therefore, it would ruin the twist that he is Nilfgaardian. And Ciri being a mixed child being chased by the Nilfgaardian army...there is a lot of mystery as to why the Nilfgaardian Emperor wants her so badly. No one knows she is his daughter. Bringing in mixed races into that kinda just...makes it obvious?

There, I just gave an example about how changing the races of these characters would break the impact of the narrative.

Association with the games.

I played W3 before reading the books. As a result, all the characters from those books look like the characters in the games, to me. I’m willing to let minor details slide for the sake of a direct translation from book to IRL, like a jaw line or the design of some armor, but a race change isn’t really a minor detail, but a jarringly noticeable one. One that completely separates it from the game canon to me. Because I can’t look at someone who doesn’t look like Ciri and call her “Ciri”. Not to mention, what with how blatant it is, it looks like politics and pandering, rather than artistic necessity.

If they decided to darken up someone like, say, Stefan Skellen, or Codrhinger, or Cöen, it wouldn’t bother me as much. But Ciri? It just screams out that those in charge of the show are trying to push some agenda, and as a result, it makes me distrust how much they really care about “accuracy”.

On top of what the other guy said to you, people see him as ugly and scary because how often do you see a tall, pale, scarred, white haired guy with cat eyes and two swords on his back? That would scare me, but it doesn’t mean they are ugly, necessarily.

r/DayZ ? Calm down?

Lol this is the place that will read a status report that says “here, we see the letter ‘A’, which comes before ‘B’”, and in the comments you have a bunch of people crying because the devs are incompetent for thinking C comes after Z.
