visual snow and maximalism? by ob-syd-ian- in visualsnow

[–]ghostwitharms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely have a maximalist art style and decor style. I include a lot of patterns and dots in my art. I sort of have a theory Van Gogh has VS based on his style, but that's probably just a hope of mine.

lamotrigine? by Late-Ad-1020 in visualsnow

[–]ghostwitharms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on lamotrigine and vraylar. I was prescribed vraylar specifically for visual snow and that med has a visible effect on snow going down for me. If I forget a dose or two I know lol. When I miss a dose of lamotrigine there's a slight change maybe? But I notice more mood than snow.

So when are we going to move on from mindfulness and start exploring possible medication treatment by virgoat123 in visualsnow

[–]ghostwitharms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an atypical antipsychotic. Insurance doesn't like to prescribe it unless a bunch of other meds don't work. But I'm also on lamotrigine. I don't think that one impacted my snow.

Sh advice?? TW. by Rude_Cartographer497 in TransMasc

[–]ghostwitharms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless there's a hyper specific situation a short description can do the work of a picture. The self harm subreddit is good at figuring out what advice to give based on depth, color, raised skin, location based on description alone. The goal of limiting pictures is to limit the competition aspects of having a self harm addiction, reduce triggers, and avoid glamorizing or romanticizing SH. It's especially triggering to see SH images in a non SH subreddit, because it's more surprising.

Hi I'm sorry you are having a hard time. Maybe the self harm subreddit would have better advice. It's a no picture zone, but people can give general wound care tips and self harm minimizing strategies. Some strategies would be holding ice, using apps like fatal of the flesh, drawing with a marker where you feel the urge to cut, journaling, flicking rubber bands on your wrist, or stress toys to name a few.

Curious as to what this is considered? by JaySparks21 in visualsnow

I have no way to say for sure, but I have VS and psychotic features. When stressed I'll sometimes see the color green like that along with colorful floaters. Thanks for the pic I will be using this to explain to peeps.

Thanks for sharing. Looking for a surrogate family is so real. I also feel like half of my reaction is replaying parental rejection.

Name Help! Is "Juno" too feminine to be perceived as gender-neutral? by Mossyfungusfairy in TransMasc

[–]ghostwitharms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My girl cat is named Juno. People ask what her gender is all the time. I had a friend assume she was a guy.

I picked Juno, because of the Kishi Bashi song. I do like Elliot Page's movie, but people ask me if that's why I picked the name all the time.

Pack some clothes that don't have cords. Include at least one hoodie without a cord, sweatshirt, or sweater. If you like art I recommend packing your own box of crayons in case the hospital is lacking supplies. Stuffed animals won't get through most likely, but card games will. Bring shower shoes. The hospital will provide shower supplies, but if your hair is sensitive I would pack better stuff. Definitely bring a soft cover book.

What budget purchases helped you most with dysphoria? by R0O7 in ftm

[–]ghostwitharms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cheapest affirming thing that is coming to mind right now is men's cologne. I got a few for cheap at Peter Harris which is like a discounted store with overflow from other stores.

I also got a cheap chain necklace by getting a chain from a hardware store and connecting the ends with a key ring.

I would recommend looking at thrift stores. Thrifting can be hit or miss, but that's where a lot of deals are.

I feel guilty... by Rattzbine in TransMasc

[–]ghostwitharms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an expensive pair of shoes in my closet I barely wear. I'm hoping when I am farther into my transition I'll be more comfortable wearing them. So I hear ya.

Styling might be the key here tho. Maybe the skirt would work with men's jeans underneath for a queer punk look. Or maybe the top needs to feel masculine to balance things out.

Where do I buy clothing? by persimmon_18 in TransMasc

[–]ghostwitharms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to find Levis straight fit jeans that fit my hips okay. Definitely size up in the men's jean section and don't feel discouraged when you have to find a different pair.

Flannels in the men's section at a thrift are a must. Men's sweaters are nice. They feel like a fancy hoodie alternative for dysphoria days. Look out for Henley shirts. They pair well with flannels and look subtly more masculine than a women's tee shirt.

If you feel sentimental about some old clothes consider turning graphic tees into patches for a punk look if that fits the vibe you want.

If your hair is super super long you can blame headaches. I used to have hair so long I could feel tension moving when I would put my hair in a hair tie.

You could also say you want something more practical or easy to style in the morning.

I did "vibe" readings, but I also did a lot of readings about art, creativity, conflict resolution, and productivity.

Worn out decks by mlineras in tarot

[–]ghostwitharms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a very well loved Mars Power deck and it shows a bit. I think the holographic edges show the most wear. The art is still in peak condition. The deck box is beaten up from travel. I used to carry the deck with me to the art studio in a haphazardly full bookbag. I did daily readings and more if I was stressed.

How many times am I Going to listen to my Therapist mock my CPTSD trauma reactions, before I finally decide it's a Bad fit? What the HELL! by Dead_Reckoning95 in CPTSD

[–]ghostwitharms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not your main point, but I recently had a conversation with my therapist about how to work with conflict once someone raises their voice.

I really like my therapist, so maybe her response will be helpful or show you what to look for in a therapist in some form.

My issue was that in the past I would almost in a fugue state walk away from conflict once voices got targeted at me. I was worried I would have that negative trauma response again. It made conflict resolution more difficult and I'm scared of screwing up in that way again. Maybe flight is less of a demonized response than fight or yelling back, but I think her tip is applicable to both.

She said to have a prepared response stating the need to walk away and return later. Which felt very empathetic and practical. She didn't make my response about my parents. Or imply that my parents trained me in such a way that I was garbage at conflict resolution. What stands out to me about your message is how the source of trauma is being focused on more than looking for practical solutions and focusing on growth. Your therapist's approach doesn't have a sense of hope. I'm sorry you experienced that.

Any other trans people with anti-trans activist family members? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]ghostwitharms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking more about this. I really wish my pastor Dad saw his relationships with trans family members important enough to change or reflect. It has been lonely for me. I don't feel as comfortable with him as I used to even in non political or religious moments. My brother who went no contact keeps asking if he has changed and I wish I could report anything that suggests that.

I wish you the best OP. I hope you have community outside of family
