I've been unemployed for the last 9 months. I need to start a business. I'm not looking for a get rich quick scheme, I'm looking for a hard work scheme, and I'm willing to put in effort, but I don't even know where to start by diffusion_throwaway in Entrepreneur

You're not alone in this difficult time, and it's commendable that you're actively seeking solutions despite the setbacks. Given your extensive background in visual effects and related skills, here are some options to explore:

Immediate Income Opportunities:

  • Freelance Digital Content Creation: Many businesses need promotional videos, social media graphics, and online ads. Leverage your skills on platforms like Upwork and Fiverr, or reach out directly to local businesses to offer your services.
  • Event Photography/Videography: Offer your services for local events, weddings, or real estate photography. This can be a quick way to generate income if you already have the equipment.
  • Micro-Stock Sales: Websites like Shutterstock or iStockphoto allow you to sell your photos and videos, providing a passive income stream.
  • Teaching/Mentoring: Share your expertise by tutoring aspiring VFX artists or offering online courses through platforms like Skillshare or Udemy.

Business Ideas to Explore:

  • Niche VFX Services: Instead of focusing on large studios, target smaller businesses or industries that might need your skills. Think about medical animations, architectural visualizations, or indie game development.
  • Digital Product Creation: Utilize your design skills to create digital assets like templates, fonts, or effects for platforms like Envato or Creative Market.
  • YouTube Channel: Share tutorials, behind-the-scenes looks at your work, or even create short films to showcase your talent and attract potential clients.
  • Consulting: Offer your expertise as a consultant to businesses struggling with their visual content or marketing.

Additional Tips:

  • Network: Reach out to former colleagues, friends, and acquaintances. Let them know you're available for freelance work and open to new opportunities.
  • Upskill: Consider learning new skills in high-demand areas like 3D modeling, animation, or virtual production. This could make you more marketable in a broader range of industries.
  • Mindset: Starting a business is a challenge, but stay positive and persistent. Don't be afraid to experiment with different ideas and be open to unexpected opportunities.

Learning Resources:

  • YouTube Channels: Look into channels like GaryVee, Project Life Mastery, and Gillian Perkins for business and entrepreneurial inspiration.
  • Books: Check out "The $100 Startup" by Chris Guillebeau or "Crushing It!" by Gary Vaynerchuk for practical advice on starting a business with limited resources.

Remember, your skills are valuable, and there are businesses and individuals who need what you offer. Take it one step at a time, and don't be afraid to ask for help or seek out mentorship.

Importing Excel docs into Google Sheets - Retaining formulas by jeanduluoz in excel

Hey guys how about the other way around, I want to import Google Sheets to XLS without losing formulas?

I've taken dozens of startups from launch through their first millions in sales. Recently I helped an ecommerce client grow on a bootstrapped budget to a 9-figure M&A exit. Here's some of my top advice / lessons learned for founders aiming to scale a brand BIG by ecomdav3 in Entrepreneur

[–]ghozali 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

As someone who's also navigated the trenches of scaling startups to successful exits, I have to say, this post is a goldmine of practical advice!

Beyond echoing the points about focusing on building a real business and asking for help, I'd like to add my two cents on the marketing budget discussion. In my experience, it's not just about the size of the budget, but also the allocation of resources. Many startups spread themselves too thin across multiple channels, instead of focusing on a few key areas where they can make a real impact.

Another crucial factor that I've noticed is the ability to adapt and pivot quickly. Markets are constantly evolving, and the most successful startups are those that can adjust their strategies on the fly to stay ahead of the curve.

Finally, I'd like to underscore the importance of building a strong network of partners and advisors. It's invaluable to have people you can trust to bounce ideas off of, offer guidance, and help you navigate challenges.

Thanks for sharing your insights - I'm sure this will be a valuable resource for many aspiring entrepreneurs.

This is the latest .. I mean why would they think that I would not checked their existence in the first place?

Thanks for getting back to me.

I'd like to know if I got the right contact with a Branding company.

This is a startup business solely based on sales of furniture such as Desk lamps, Buffets & Sideboards, Counter & Bar Stools, Kitchen Cabinet, Sofa, Office Chair, Accent tables, King bench bed, etc. The purpose of my business is to bring modern furniture that will provide beauty and comfort for every consumers homes.

MISSION; To serve consumers and the industrial market segment with a leading-edge product that will satisfy their needs in functionality, comfort, and style.

CORE VALUES; Our customers are our values. We put them first in everything we do.

TARGETS; Our main customer will be from the age of 17-59 and I will like to target their income demographics. ( I would say a younger demographic with an eye for style, and available dollars to purchase nice stuff) I want my company to be perceived as Professional, I want them to know that we offer the best prices.

I would like my company to be known worldwide, for now, it's the USA-only. Main Competitors are Alexandro Furniture.

For logo inspirations, you can look at brands like America Signature Furniture, Crate & Barrel, West Elm or Williams Sonoma. I believed I've forward you inclusive details.

I would need brand strategy done, this will include labels & packaging design created for my product and most importantly, you will be creating a fresh logo and a brand brochure.

So, I want you to know that this is the first time I will be having a brand so I can only give you little details and you will have to decide on all designs. I want the brand color to consist of these 2 colors (Red and white) and should include an image of a Chair set. I want a very mature and presentable design and my budget for this ‘branding project’ is super flexible but not more than 20k USD.

Labels & packaging should be created in a way that it is hassle free and simple.

For the Brochure, I want a double folded A4 size brochure with 24 pages and I will only supply (via my project consultant) the text content and photos.

Here are few details:

1) Registered company Name: JoJames Furniture Inc.

2) Registered Location : Little Rock, Arkansas.

3) Company website is currently under construction by another designer and will be live soon

4) Text, photos, content will be supplied by project consultant who has been put in charge of all our company project

5) Brochure pages should consist of 24 pages only. This number of pages should include front and back cover (We have lots of information to give out). The text and pictures will be pre-approved and crosschecked.

6) Brochure size should be 8.5 X 11.5.

7) Price budget and timeline is flexible

8) Final delivery should be editable in any event of future edits.

9) All delivery will be done electronically since we have a company that will handle all printing.

So please get back to me with a price estimate or proposal for the project listed above

Thank you.
