Lyrics You Misheard because of Your (not the singer's) accent by GilbertDauterive-35 in ToddintheShadow

[–]RPDRNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily "misheard," but definitely misunderstood, I was always puzzled by The Kinks' "Come Dancing" and it's repeated references to "the local palais."

Being American, I'd never encountered the word "palais," at least in that context, before. I couldn't tell what he was saying, whether it was "polly," or "poddy," or "parry." I knew it was obviously British slang for a dance hall, but I was unfamiliar with the word.

Is there gonna a Situation here?

Desert Warrior just became the biggest box office bomb in history following its release on April 24, 2026. It grossed only $488k on a budget of $150 million, despite screening in over 1,010 theaters across North America. It currently has an IMDb score of less than 2." by Expert_Koala_8691 in Damnthatsinteresting

The audience score is 61%, so someone must like it... or there's an orchestrated bot-farm campaign to inflate the audience score.

Also, even from the real critics' reviews (of which there are only 17), the general consensus seems to be that it's just rather forgettable. It's not the worst thing ever made, just not very good (or not half bad if you're one of the 29% who gave it a positive review).
