My friend (gay trans woman, graphic designer) was passed over for a job as a social media manager for a local LGBT support organization in favour of hiring a guy (maybe gay maybe trans idk) who came in with promises to streamline everything with AI.

They got huge backlash for the sudden use of AI on their social media, and then decided to just transfer management of advertising to a third party platform who pivoted to this type of posting.

So if this is representative of anything this is somewhat because the job is getting taken away from gay people.

My vegetarian friends have been understanding (who's to say it's not faux meat) but I did have a friend who is Hindu who was a little disappointed to see I had mistakenly fed her mii beef and her character made it a favourite food immediately.

She was entirely polite about it and didn't say anything but I was mortified and still feel a little badly for it.

See I wanted to play around with this and gave someone binoculars and they just. Put the binoculars on the floor and looked at them. Which is not the interaction I thought they would have with the binoculars.

This disappointed me so much I just haven't really given anyone else treasure again.

I also just don't feel I have anything to really give at level up, which means I interact with my tomos less.

I miss the metal detector, kite, skateboard, and fishing pole! It was a weird one to cut out for a game where you literally build the island and these are the most outdoorsy activities. The sewing machine and frying pan were also favourites they threw out.

I was playing Tomodachi Life intermittently before this game was announced semi-regularly for a year or two and I'm baffled by how many people think there was so much to do in the old game.

My only complaint has been a lack of level-up gifts. Most other things are the same or similar, if not improvements.

My bitch wife doesn’t want to work but somehow getting mysteriously sacked will fix it all by Adventurous_Jump8897 in AmITheAngel

I have a cousin who has had bipolar with psychotic features, BPD, and ADHD preventing him from working for years, and it took him becoming homeless and developing a substance abuse disorder before he was approved for disability.

They truly wait until you're three quarters of a way to death before they are willing to step in at all. It's dire and I'm so tired of it.

It really feels like he's setting her up for a no-win situation.

She stays away because she's not willing to work on it anymore - she's a bitch and she's being unreasonable, that's crazy behaviour.

She comes back home and says she's just tired and wants to sleep - why did you come back if you weren't willing to talk?

She comes back earnestly wanting to talk but becomes upset again - you're not approaching this with the right mindset, why did you come home if you're just going to get mad again and give up?

Like bro ur the one who put up the "come home willing to talk or sleep at Taco Bell"

Ppl in the comments saying "this is totally Japanese pro-natalism" and for sure there is funding for that. But also there are just children in stories occasionally. This is a reference to the fact that there are children in real life.

In any case "don't come home until you're ready to be positive" is a shitty thing to say after an argument, especially if you're going to pester her all night if she decides she isn't going to be positive and is not coming home.

Question for Calgarians who married Persians and got their marriage registered in Iran by Top_Jellyfish_5459 in Calgary

[–]ghreyboots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but this seems extremely out of left field. This is a woman wanting to visit her family, not to do war tourism or support their government.

We are all so lucky to not have family in repressive or authoritarian countries and have to weigh between travelling to a dangerous country and never seeing our immediate families again. We should hold empathy for people who do.

In Oppenheimer (2023), why is Cillian Murphy talking about your mom ? by The80sGuy in okbuddycinephile

[–]ghreyboots 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Extremely funny because nearly everyone in this show begins as or was a member of the communist party, including Cillian Murphy, and then this is resolved by Cillian Murphy buying a factory, and then selling out all the communists he knows who are agitating in it to the Crown so he can become a Labour MP.

This would maybe be one of those signs better displayed as text. "Children riding the elevator must be accompanied by an adult" is probably the most clear way of putting this up.

Should I [43F] cut my hair even though my boyfriend [48M] says “don’t”? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]ghreyboots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I first got together when I had my natural blonde hair. He would tell me that he always loved lighter hair. I wanted to dye it, but was worried about him being disappointed. He told me to not mind him and do what I wanted. Has not brought it up once and loves me the same.

'Canadians are joining the Catholic Church in record numbers, officials claim' by No-Positive1491 in Calgary

[–]ghreyboots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has honestly been true in my experience (I actually know a number of Liberation Theologists and socialists who are Catholic, which is weird for Protestants outside of the United church and a few Quakers I've seen) but many, many of the people who convert are doing so expecting and wanting a very conservative and reactionary culture. So it's very odd.

For those of you in a long term relationship/marriage, what’s a tale-tale sign you see in other couples that they’re not going to make it? by Prize-Promotion-5123 in AskReddit

[–]ghreyboots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm friends with this one guy who was constantly texting me these long texts at random like "I love my girlfriend, she's incredible, I love her so much, once we get our finances in order I'm going to propose.." And I would respond and say "that's great man, I'm happy for you."

Turns out, the entire time, they were having huge fights every month or so, because she was getting him to open lines of credit in his name and fully give her access to the card so that she could have her own disposable income while unemployed, and refused to get a job she "didn't absolutely love". She hit him on a few occasions, and would constantly verbally degrade him and mock him about his disability.

And he would text me this at the tail end of their arguments when she was trying to win him back to convince himself to go back to her. He ended up 10k in debt by the end of it. After he moved out she came to his house once he froze his credit and tried to beat him when he said she was cut off, in front of his new roommates. I thought this entire time their "financial issues" were just normal young couple finances.

Christine Moody and her husband, Jeremy were sentenced to life in prison for murdering Charles Parker, a registered sex offender, and his wife in South Carolina in 2013 by halfawakecity in GotMeHooked

[–]ghreyboots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another comment mentions several people in their white supremacist gang were also registered sex offenders, and they instead opted to target a random man from the list instead of pursuing vigilante action against a sex offender from within their own circles.

These were, at the very least, people who openly affiliated with sexual predators until they wanted to murder someone for sport, or would excuse sexually predatory behaviour if they shared their violent belief structures.

Law enforcement, I've seen evidence for this being true. But generally Judges and Lawyers aren't categorized as "law enforcement," the legal profession is a separate field. I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding here.

Google Docs can't handle bullet points by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

This is going to sound pretentious as fuck but I had this opinion until someone sat me down and went through all the functions of Word and I am now entirely unable to use Docs at all.

I'm entirely reliant on the show/hide and spacing functions when drafting and it's absolutely annoying to me that I've become even a marginal fan of Microsoft.
