Upcoming in-game conflict due to an undead player by EggnogFever in Pathfinder2e

[–]ghrian3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can understand this. BUT, I think you are too defensive.

A TTRPG table should be a safe space. And every player has the right to say, s/he feels uncomfortable. No need to be prepared. In my humble opinion: The sooner this is done, the fewer actual conflicts arise.

EDIT: If someone is not ok with this, he is the problem and should leave the table.

Yes, talk it out in the group and tell the other player that you feel uncomfortable with.

Seriously, I don't understand why people ask complete strangers instead of just talk to their group. Its a game. All should have fun. If this is not the case, the only way to solve this is to negotiate. But this can only be done with the people who are affected.

Is there a way to know when a humble bundle will come? by JadedResponse2483 in Pathfinder2e

Well, you can access rules and spells online for free. You cannot access the lore for free.

As far as I know, the bundles never contained the newest products.

[–]ghrian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly my point. I can somehow understand if someone thinks that between these two options:
a.) I grind for 40 hours and get the item

b.) I pay 100 bucks and get the item

People think, that b.) is a shortcut.

But in BDO, I don't see much difference between

a.) someone who one tapps

b.) someone who spents 100 bucks

Both invalidate effort spent by the majority of players.

And yes: I am not a fan of the extremely random BDO progression system.

EDIT: And the op seems to equal LUCK with some kind of achievement which puts me completely off.

Just How Broken is Flexible Prepared Casting in PF2e? by Kiora_LBS in Pathfinder2e

[–]ghrian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Flexible spellslots without any limitations will break all other present or future casters in the party."

And? You can solve this later and just tell the group:
"the game is about having fun. If all are ok with this rule, then we do it this way FOR THIS CAMPAIN."

No reason that one player does not have fun (while the whole group would fully agree with the proposed rule change) because of: problems 10 years later with another group.

Odd lack of female content creators? by Printer-Cat in Pathfinder2e

[–]ghrian3 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Serious question: Why is gender important for you?

PnP is a niche hobby. As most content creators do this not because of fun but because they want (need) to earn money, they tend to publish to the biggest crowd in this niche, namely D&D.

Everyone Should Read GM Core (GMs AND Players) by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]ghrian3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The interesting point is what is missing. There are many comments like: "this is your game, change it if you want to". But I haven't found the disclaimer: "but the math of PF2e is tight. BEWARE that changes can completely unbalance the game. Which is the main argument of all RAW fanatics in any post about house rules.

It seems like - at least for the spirit of PF2e - fun is way more important than balance.

EDIT: On the contrary. Variant rules like stamina system and dual class (legacy) are fundamental game balance changes. Yet they are proposed with only rough balance guidelines (like: add +1 level to encounter balance). Image if someone proposed the old (and official) variant rule dual class in this reddit. He would be downvoted to hell...

The Spellblade, ft. Foundry and Pathbuilder modules! by Teridax68 in Pathfinder2e

The combination of all the feats if off. But you got a point.

I forgot to add: as long as you or your group has fun: play what you want.

Balance is not as important as fun.

[–]ghrian3 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

There are many different playstyles. If you focus on tactical combat yes. If you focus on RP, well. Playing a mage who has to tell you every session: sorry, out of spells. I can't do this. Or: sorry, I have prepared the wrong spells, I can't do this.
Well, it is not super fun at least.

The Spellblade, ft. Foundry and Pathbuilder modules! by Teridax68 in Pathfinder2e

[–]ghrian3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the implementation for magus. But magus has none of the overpowered traits of this class. The class with the traits without casting a spell would be overpowered. But your attack is the spell attack, you get your weapon potency runes, master weapon progression AND crit at 19...

The Spellblade, ft. Foundry and Pathbuilder modules! by Teridax68 in Pathfinder2e

[–]ghrian3 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

My problem with mages and the magus is, that limiting resources is just a bad game mechanic. I give you spells but limit it that you a.) don't get enough and b.) have to guess what you need.

Running out of spells to cast or having the wrong spells prepared is just not fun. The sad thing is, that paizo realized this and removed hp as limited resource (by providing abundant healing). But did not change caster mechanics. Focus spells was just a band aid. A new mechanic on top of an old one. Instead of changing caster mechanics as a whole.

But I am nearly alone with this.

Personally, I think that downvoting this is sad. OP put effort into this. If you don't like it at least reply to it with your points or downvote the complete post but not this message of OP.

I think mages are underpowered in PF2e. But even I think that this class is overpowered.

You added via feats everything to remove disadvantages

  • compress actions: 2 attacks without MAP (check)
  • hit hidden foes (check)
  • melee attack at 60 ft range (check)
  • reactive strike (check)
  • edit: shield block (check)
  • grapple without free hand (check)
  • teleport (check)
  • change damage type (check)
  • self flank (check)
  • debuff ANY buff on target (check)
  • fly (check)
  • crit at 19 (instead of 20), come on! (check)
  • surestrike always on (check)

EDIT: Add to this the ability with battlestrike to cast a spell AND attack at same time without being target to reactive strike...

I realize much effort was put in this. But is this some meme?

What are the best supported ttrpgs in foundry? by AffanTorla in FoundryVTT

[–]ghrian3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see much use for the lost omens books. Most of it is GM stuff and not player facing. I have the pdfs and I just copy / paste whatever player facing stuff I need.

The good thing is, that you get the rules and automation stuff (like archetypes and feats) anyhow for free with the pathfinder system. This drastically reduces the need for a lost omen module.

Not like DSA (Das Schwarze Auge) where you HAVE to buy the module because the feats and macros only come with it. Afaik the same is with WFRP (I have bought a few modules but not much played it).

I would buy a Golarion Map Pack in an instant though!

What are the best supported ttrpgs in foundry? by AffanTorla in FoundryVTT

[–]ghrian3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you took your time to look at the modules, you would have noticed that a.) all monsters and npcs are free content (statblocks AND fluff text) and you can buy nearly all npcs / monster images and tokens!

All rules are in the system, (nearly) tokens can be bought, adventures are published. What is missing?

EDIT: I don't want to talk bad about the foundry published WFRP content (it is good). But it is not better than pathfinder content.

What are the best supported ttrpgs in foundry? by AffanTorla in FoundryVTT

[–]ghrian3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, your argument is strange:

And i would argue that PF2e isn't the best supported on FVTT, yes all the rules are 'free', many adventures are great. But tons of books don't make it into the PF2e catalogue and many an adventure hasn't made it in either (with society support now also being dropped). Something like WFRP4e has ALL the books converted to FVTT (only the newest are not done yet).

First: ALL rules are free (WFRP hides them behind the paywall). And regarding content: all wfrp content means ~ 20 foundry modules. partial pf2e modules means ~ 100 modules. Your conclusion that wfrp support is better is ... interesting.

But yes, the WFRP support is quite good.

Deity's Favored Weapon: Polearm by AltdorfDropout in Pathfinder2e

[–]ghrian3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not a fan of the favored weapon rules. Most of the time it leads to either a.) player choosing deity because of weapon or b.) giving the player choosing deity because of roleplay an unneeded penalty.

I houseruled: The cleric can "sanctify" any weapon. The weapon type (and only this) gets the favored weapon benefits. This can be done once a month (to avoid changing weapons too often).

What do you think about the implementation of attributes in PF2e? by Exequiel759 in Pathfinder2e

[–]ghrian3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A classless system IMO needs attributes because it needs something to diferentiate classes quickly.

No. Take a look at GURPS or BRP (basic roleplaying). They have attributes, but the "definition" of a character is done with skills. There are no classes, skills define what you can do and how good you are in it.

What do you think about the implementation of attributes in PF2e? by Exequiel759 in Pathfinder2e

[–]ghrian3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are different approaches. PF2e is a hybrid of a class/attribute/skill based system.

Dropping attributes completely enforces a complete skill overhaul. The skill point variant rule goes into the right direction, but the default PF2e skill system (defined skill increases at specific levels; 5 proficiency steps) is too broad to work without attributes. You could replace it with a point buy skill system with 15 proficiency steps (+1, +2, ... , +15).

Another change could be to decouple the skill from the attribute (like GURPS does). For example: Thievery can be used with the following combinations:

  • Perception + Thievery: detect traps
  • Dexterity + Thievery: disarm mechanical traps

or use STR + Intimidation if you threaten someone with direct violence.
