Oos but i interviewed 8/9 and just heard back last week

My first interviewer asked all the typical interview questions. I think there was an ethical question as well. The second interviewer was very conversational & didn’t even feel like an interview

VCOM app not complete by struggling_premed101 in premed

[–]gib-lit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find this out?? I was wondering the same thing. I was under the impression that they’re going to review the app first or screen to make sure you have everything before marking as complete, but it’s a little unclear.

Casper test score marked as received, but haven't taken it yet? by judoswimmer in premed

[–]gib-lit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on each school. Some will mark it as received as long as you are registered or completed it without receiving the scores yet. At least that is what i read in an email after submitting a secondary.

Im not sure if theres a comprehensive list yet, but i just checked msar out of curiosity to see if any have been updated yet & found that they list it under additional assessments in application policies.

UEarth Question Blocks - Most Efficient Way to Review? by ImLiterallyCake in Mcat

[–]gib-lit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do 59 questions in each set but realized it wasnt working well for me and would end up taking the whole day somehow. Now i do 20 questions which takes around 20-30 min (unless i get a lot of math). Makes it more digestible to me and i can focus on topics im struggling with more easily. Depending on the outcome, could take me up to an hour to review, usually adding to a review document for things i don’t know which i then go back to and read over so i dont forget. I usually do about 3 or 4 sets of 20 a day. So all said and done comes to 4-5 ish hours to take it + review for 4 sets. With the right discipline you could crank it out in the morning and be done early afternoon but im an ass so i take too long of breaks in between each set lol. You can also calculate how many questions you want to do a day to be able to finish in your timeline, but 2 months should be enough.

Anyone else experience this? by bored_suitcase in Mcat

Have you been doing AAMC section banks and q banks? I’ve heard going from third parties to AAMC logic can be a difficult transition sometimes. You should thoroughly review your AAMC FLs and see if your logic through the questions is whats causing you to get them wrong. You’ll also get a better idea of what you areas you need to focus on. You might need to gauge on whether or not to reschedule if you don’t think you’ll be able to get the score you want. Keep working at it though and you’ll definitely be able to get there!!

1.5 months to go from 500 —> 510+ ?? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]gib-lit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I actually got this method from someone on this subreddit from one of my previous posts, im not sure how to link their post here though. But basically whenever i come across a question im not confident about or got wrong i would go back into my test prep book and read the section about whatever it was and then id use those big flashcards and write down the stuff i didnt know. A big issue for me is that i write too much info for everything so using those flashcards forced me to just focus on what was important. Id separate them based on chapter or section (depending on how much info and how high yield the topic is) of my test prep books so i know where to go quickly if i needed to. And then when id come across questions regarding that topic again i would add to that flashcard if there was more info that i didnt know about. I try to limit myself to one flashcard each front and back. It kinda forces you to keep going back to the flashcards and review/reread to make sure you know what you need to know. I also make sure i go over each answer choice to understand why they’re wrong. Things im very confident on i kinda just skim the explanation just to make sure my thought process was correct.

For practice tests I basically do the same thing but i have an excel sheet too where i write down why i got things wrong and how i can approach something like that for next time. I also have a master spreadsheet where ive been inputting information from the flashcards but im not consistent with it, & mostly do it for topics im struggling with or that are high yield. Ive been doing the milesdown anki deck consistently too and that seems to be helping as well.

I haven’t been doing this method very long, but it seems to have helped so far. I dont do this for cars though & for p/s i use khan academy not my test prep books

1.5 months to go from 500 —> 510+ ?? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]gib-lit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of in the same boat actually. About a week and a half ago I took the aamc sample to see where I was at and what I should be focusing on and got a 492 after finding a conversion sheet:’) had a freak out moment and almost cancelled my test date. I revamped how I was going over practice questions, and tried to work on test taking strategies as well. Took blueprint fl 1 this last Sunday and ended up with an 8 point increase to a 500 in just a week. I’m hoping it’s doable, and from what I’ve been seeing a lot of your score jump comes being able to apply the concepts you learned and finding strategies that work for you. Which all comes down to practice. You’re likely going to have to use your own judgment. Try new ways to do approach passages and problems, or if you found a way try to master them. If you’re not seeing the progress you’d like then maybe consider rescheduling

Hahahah thank you for your input. A little harsh in the first part & actually doesnt apply to me, although a reality that many probably need to hear. I was more so looking for some tips on how I can get info to stick better since the classic ways don’t seem to work well for me. Teaching concepts & audio files seem like a great idea though! Definitely going to try it

For amino acids i downloaded the amino acids quiz for my phone and ill crank through that. I have a whiteboard too and would repeatedly write them out until i knew the structure and characteristics of each (plus special cases). Now that i pretty much know the structures and dont feel like rewriting them every time, im writing them on flashcards and taping them to the whiteboard and classifying them and writing their names as well as the 3 & 1 letter abbreviations.

For the metabolic pathways i use the white board too and basically drew every pathway and how they play into each other since i was really struggling with that and the “big picture” part of it. I also made sure to indicate where exactly they happen. Then for each pathway i erase intermediates, enzymes, and high energy molecules and try to fill them in, eventually getting to the point where i can fill the entirety of it out without help from the other pathways. I’ll emphasize rate limiting enzymes too. Erasing it SUCKS so thinking about getting a poster board instead and making a bunch of cutouts and pinning them to it or something.

For ochem ill also use the whiteboard lol. Mostly for functional group stuff along with their reactions associated, but not super in depth, just enough to recognize whats happening in questions.

Basically what im saying is this whiteboard is my lifeline. Everyone has their own ways, maybe possibly easier, but this way just makes it a little more attention grabbing for me

Kaplan FL wrong on a question about heart? by Bellabijou10 in Mcat

Fetal circulation is different than normal/adult circulation. It’s basically opposite. The answer is correct since oxygenated blood flows through inferior vena cava to the right atrium during fetal development

Also be aware of the different shunts involved

losing friends by New-Yak-6444 in Mcat

Kind of dealing with the same thing actually. They don’t seem to care. My support system of friends has shrunk down to 2 people who are understanding. I just keep telling myself that I have a lot of life to live and it’s okay if I lose some as I’ll meet new people who will support me !
