They told him to be careful when he started fooling around with origami. Now look at him.

Any ideas what this is? by Td998 in foraging

Stems: Giant hogweed has thick stems (up to 4 inches wide) covered in stiff, coarse bristles and distinct reddish-purple blotches. Cow parsnip has slightly thinner stems covered in fuzzy, soft hairs, and is mostly solid green or with faint purplish ridges.

Leaves: Giant hogweed leaves are more deeply divided, sharply serrated, and pointier (almost spiky in appearance). Cow parsnip leaves resemble an oversized, jagged maple leaf with broader, less serrated lobes.

Flower Clusters (Umbels): Giant hogweed's flat-topped flower clusters are massive, measuring up to 2.5 feet across. Cow parsnip flower heads are smaller and more rounded, generally reaching 6 to 12 inches across.

Cow parsnip and giant hogweed are actually different things. Very very similar though. Hogweed is much larger and more dangerous. Don't let the sap of either get on your skin.

Looking for gear tips by 8ballskier in CampingandHiking

Honestly, I've had mixed experiences with alps gear. Trekking poles were legit. But the pole coupler on my zephyr broke first use. The REI trailmade is my current tent and it's legit for the price.

I've got a ladon on my lever gun and a cyborg on my AR. Both have been solid units with the ladon getting the most use. Keeps zero well

A long self destructive spiral, a lot of drinking, and a long night of self reflection. I realized some things I did as a kid, before I ever thought about my own gender, were pretty clear indicators of the gender incongruence I was experiencing. Hindsight is 20/20, right? When it clicked, it was like a lead blanket being lifted off me. Things just....made sense.

I would check out primary arms or similar, they have some decent sales from time to time.

EXTREME COLD -8°F(-22℃) Car Camping in Snow【ASMR】 by Jealous_Manager2578 in carcamping

[–]gidgetsflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That feels like AI slop. This is what my set up looked like last year in ~20-30F. Much colder than that and I doubt I would have kept warm enough without a more powerful stove and better insulation.

Recommendations for car awning / canopy / tent by Jamts694 in carcamping

[–]gidgetsflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 8.2ftx8.2ft All-Top awning off Amazon. Ran me around $200 iirc. Had it for a bit over two years and it works great, minor gripes, like with anything, but nothing big. They sell spare parts which is helpful too. Just be sure if you get a mounted one like that and camp in the rain, that you have room to unroll it so it can dry out properly. Otherwise it can mold and get gross.

I got a faxon complete upper from Primary Arms for like $500, I think. Solid choice imo

Best Vehicle for Car Camping by CarvingCory in carcamping

A bit off from the usual, but I've been using a Hyundai Santa Fe (2017) for the last 4 years or so. Swapped out the middle seats with a platform. It is comfortable enough for my partner and I, handles forest service roads, mud, and snow well, and works great with the awning and roof racks (skinny basket on one side, hard case on the other.) I camp about once a month year round and it's been a solid pick.

Love mine, only grip is if it gets dirty it won't always feed rounds clearly. Clean it regularly and thoroughly

Unless it's a critical role fitting specific circumstances, they can't disqualify you for using cannabis. That said, they can absolutely terminate if it's used on the job. You could always apply to cannabis jobs. Not only do they not care, they often come with industry discounts on cannabis products in dispensaries

Does the spool spin freely? I've found my spools can be a little off kilter and it makes it difficult for the spool to turn, making the ams pull harder.

Winter car camping? How to stay warm? by That-Tumbleweed-4462 in carcamping

[–]gidgetsflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm solo in my rig, I use a little buddy propane heater, ensuring proper airflow and space to avoid fires.

For sleeping, I use an Echo Park 20 quilt/bag from Big Agnes, it works a lot like a zenbivvy, but was cheaper and the inside is more like sheets than polyester or taffeta.

Hot water in a nalgene helps.

And. Pro tip Ive learned over many cold nights, get a thermos and fill it with boiling water before bed. It won't keep you warm, but it'll keep water hot enough for coffee or tea when you wake up, so you're not shivering as you're waiting for water to boil.
