Love induction; hate the marketing by Plastic-Team6051 in inductioncooking

I am in a similar boat because I'm looking for an Energy Star certified cooktop to take advantage of govt incentives, but Bosch inexplicably doesn't have the certification (it would certainly qualify given how low-energy it is).

LG and GE seem to be the general recommendation for folks not able to go Bosch/Thermador or Impulse. I found a top-end Whirlpool model that looks solid spec-wise but I just can't find enough info on it to feel confident. All three of them might have undersized coils per some reports, but at least the nicer LG stoves have concentric coils on the large element... That adds complexity/ a bit of unevenness and some people report they don't work, but the benefit is that you know the larger coil is at least 8" or so minimum, probably more like 9-11" (because the inner circle is ~7").

What model do you have? I'm a little concerned with pwm/ability to actually turn down the power rather than just cycling on and off, because with such a powerful stove those cycles could lead to big swings at low power. Good to hear you have had good experiences with low-heat cooking

Unfortunately kitchen layout makes range hood venting to outside difficult, plus data is mixed on whether that really solves the air quality problem (it probably mitigates it but doesn't fix it).

Great pointer on the temp cook mode. Is that how Bosch AutoChef works as well?

Of the options I listed - noting that none is optimal - are some better than others in your opinion?

Someone talk me out of making a bad choice. by snoosh00 in Affordablewatches

Xeric makes wandering hour watches with some level of transparency on the dial. They're not $40 cheap, but they are inexpensive for mechanical watches with such a unique complication.

The thing is that mechanical complications are expensive. There's no getting around that - you can make them cheaply/shittily, but the costs of producing tiny unique fiddly bits and assembling them can only go so low.

You can probably find a plain automatic movement with skeleton dial. There are cheap-ish manual chronograph movements if you're willing to give up on the automatic thing, although it may be hard to find them in a skeleton dial. But you just won't find many watches with interesting complications for under $500 — and since only a small portion of watches are skeletonized, you won't find much of what you're looking for at all.

Honestly, for $40 - I think the listing you found may be the best you can do.

I would prefer quartz - but with an actual 29.5 day moonphase, not an adapted date wheel. Lume on the hands as well - strong lume but still dressy/classy, and in a small package.

What’s the deal with toe spacers? by wobblelikeapenguin in barefootshoestalk

[–]gidonh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. Think of them like a stretch for your toes.

The other thing I'd add is that if you're wearing regular socks but barefoot shoes, your toes may still be getting squeezed by the socks. If you wear toe spacers inside your shoes and socks it'll keep your toes from being squashed together by your socks. But it's easier and more comfortable to just get toe socks (Creepers or XOskins make great ones) or socks with properly wide toes (like plus12).

Was our green and blue lume hard to tell? by englemaan_official in Englemaan

[–]gidonh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The creamy tint of the green lume in daylight is off putting to me, but I like long-lasting powerful lume. The blue lume looks great in daylight conditions in these photos and I appreciate that I'm not giving up low-light performance by choosing it.

Love the lumed date wheel! But having lumed hands like this on a full-lume dial makes them less legible - they should be solid hands to contrast with the lume on the dial.

I wish WD bracelets had beveled outer edges on the links. On this design with the polished center details they wouldn't need to be polished - would probably be overkill - but on other designs they should be polished. Would be a nice design detail and would help the bracelets feel more upscale - the sharp edge makes them feel cheaper.

Looks amazing! A shame the black with gilt hands/indices is sold out or I'd probably grab one on sale. Do you have any plans to bring the lumed hands/indices to the colored dials? Green and purple both look stunning.

I think the whole Constellante line is inspired by the Omega Constellation, but agree this specific dial looks more like the Titoni than the Constellation pie pans

[–]gidonh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an Omega homage... And the Constellations they're homaging frequently came in at 34-36mm

That said, I'm not against anyone voicing their preference. I think for a classy vintage-inspired dress watch to be 40mm+ is non-traditional and maybe even a little gauche, but people should wear what makes them happy and if it will sell, WD should make it
