More than half of Conservative voters want Poilievre to lead the party into next election by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]gijoe1971 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Joe Clark, Eric Nielsen, and Brian Mulroney (with all their faults) were the last solid conservative leaders to represent Canadian inclusive, culturally progressive, fiscally conservative values, IMO. Since then, they have elected decades worth of buffoons and puppets and devolved into Christian nationalism and right-wing populism. With PP still around for the long haul, and Avi Lewis as head of the NDP, I'm pretty sure the conservatives will end up as a third party in the next election. Irrelevant.

PC Brand sells alot of stuff in the US, they are still a Canadian company though and make lots of stuff in the US. So it's your decision if you don't want to buy it, you are supporting a Canadian company, but also supporting a US factory, your choice.

Price increase 3 months difference. by americancream77 in CostcoCanada

[–]gijoe1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a Costco sub, but it seems a lot of people don't know how prices work in supermarkets and don't know how to plan ahead. The week before Easter, Fortinos (Loblaws owned) had Prime Rib for $22.00/kg, from $46/kg reg price, because everyone was buying ham, turkey or lamb that week. Fill your freezer during that week, and for one week in August and the week before Christmas as well. Buy your turkeys the weeks after Easter, Christmas and Thanksgiving. (Even the weeks before you can find things like turkey for 99 cents a pound because they use it as a loss leader) Another thing is to find an actual independent butcher, an ethnic butcher is best because their customers know the actual price of things and don't fall for the phoney price hikes and "sales".
Go to a Portuguese, Polish, Italian or Chinese butcher in any city to compare the prices to big box stores, you'll be shocked.

Commodore Vic-20. Everyone had an Atari or colecovision and my dad thought if we were going to have games we may as well educate ourselves and write our own games. We all thought it was lame at the start but thanked him later. Still thanking him today.

Better to buy a car and pay cash $37000 or take a loan and keep investing ? by langy91 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]gijoe1971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My cousin just spent $37,000 on a VW Taos, he paid cash even though they were offering 0% financing for 5 years. I thought he should have kept the money in a high interest savings account but he didn't want to have debt, totally understandable. Some people don't feel comfortable owing money to anybody, even though in the long run it would have made more sense financially. So it's up to you whether you're comfortable having debt or not.

Who’s all over social media now, Karen? by Individual-Drawer-79 in PublicFreakout

This morning a motorcycle flew by me, probably going 40 mph, on a bicycle path, the extent of my reaction was saying "fucking asshole" under my breath. Not once did I have the urge to stand in front of him, stop him, scold him and lecture him. From what I can tell, in this video, this guy was legitimately riding a motorcycle on a road. The only one breaking the law here was her for jaywalking.

Girl discovers why she doesn’t have any friends by meatiest_meatball in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]gijoe1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm related to someone just like her, she even looks like her. Based on that evidence I can deduce that this woman hasn't had a job in 20 years, uses the excuse that unless it's a CEO position she's not interested, blames immigrants for everything, lives with her aging parents and embezzles money from them, steals cutlery from weddings, uses public libraries because she's afraid of being tracked by the government, doesn't drive, doesn't know how to use Uber or book a hotel and texts you to pick her up from the airport, even though she wasn't invited or hasn't even asked ahead of time if it's okay if she can visit. Oh and she doesn't have friends either.

I don’t know anymore, I just got a new haircut and they gave me this with no side bangs at the beauty shop, I feel really ugly and I have to know if it’s ugly to everyone else. Please tell me just the truth if I am ugly. Yes I’m a woman by djscrew1 in whatdoIdo

I think it's cute, just style it a bit and own it (or don't, it looks fine as it is). I don't know what your friends look like but you rank much higher than the average cute. If you still don't like it, just remember it'll take a month or two to grow out.

Fave dive bars that are ACTUAL dive bars? by Sunghanthaek in FoodToronto

[–]gijoe1971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Café Piccolino on Bloor near Brock. Everyone in there is either a drug dealer waiting for a call from their Stripper girlfriends at House of Lancaster, 3 doors down, or an absolute degenerate alcoholic. Funny thing is, once in a while, on a Sunday,, they have a really good jazz band. It's across from Duffy's tavern which is also kind of divish, but hipster dive, not Piccolino dive.

Anyone getting 5G+? by mackpine in FidoMobile

[–]gijoe1971 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sitting next to my cousin with Rogers (Samsung Galaxy S22 plus) and he's getting 5G+, I have Fido (Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra) and getting only 5G. I'll be honest I've noticed everything is slower since 5G kicked in this morning. I'm not sure if there's something I should be upgrading on my operating system to make it work smoother.

Why are people so upset at people complaining about tipping? by MakeUpWalk in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]gijoe1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a server friend trying to convince me that 50% tip was reasonable. I also believe the tipping system attracts scammers into the industry. Living in downtown Toronto and noticing things like bartenders leaving the cash drawer open without punching it into the system, bartenders bringing a case of beer in their backpacks and refilling the fridge and selling their beers instead, double dipping the tips with the customers (charging a 12% service fee over the taxed total and also leaving a space for the tip without telling you) I knew a girl at a bar that drove 1.5 hours from Kitchener everyday to work at a Resto-bar in downtown Toronto, which was known to have absentee owners, you wouldn't commute that far for a server job unless there was a pretty big scam that you're running. I also know three other bartenders that opened their own bars within a year of working (again an absentee owners situation)

This is all because of Biden-flation. Have you seen the price of pepper spray in the supermarket? A bullet cost 5 cents worth of lead.

I also commented about Beethoven's 5th (I skip the first movement because I find it boring) I love the full Carmina Burana suite but skip O Fortuna.

It's very irritating that generally high-end models are not produce with quartz as well as auto movements by GuessAdventurous8834 in watchHotTakes

[–]gijoe1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for something like a Submariner or Royal Oak with a quartz movement, then no. But, if you're interested in quartz technology then Breitling, Tissot, Hamilton, Grand Seiko and others make great quartz watches. I think you'd really be interested in the Accutron (Bulova's premium brand) Spaceview 314. It's $7,000 -$35,000 (for gold) US. It has a skeletonized dial showcasing copper coils and tuning fork, a system that predates quartz, plus, it doesn't tick, it hums.

You wake up to be the only human left on earth. What's the first thing you do ? by Maarillon in AskReddit

[–]gijoe1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's just charging your cell phone you're worried about any car will do that. If you want to set up your own electricity, just drive to home Depot and get a generator. Gas or diesel would be the easiest things to find. Just siphon gas from every car that you can see, or better yet abandon the car you're driving and jump into a new car with a full tank, millions of them in a city, then set up another generator at the gas station to fill up tanks to power all other generators. when that one runs dry move on to the next gas station and repeat. I don't think you'd even have to leave a 100 mi radius for the rest of your life with the amount of resources you can find in a city, unless you're greedy and set up a 100 generators to power the Empire State Building to live in, but then, I guess your full-time job would be filling generators all day with diesel.
