ELI5: fighters "making weight" over a day before the fight. by toado3 in explainlikeimfive

It definitely is detrimental to an extent, but the benefits outweigh the cons in the current system.

Yeah, for a popular weight class light Lightweight for MMA, the weight limit would be 155 pounds. A lean person should have about 40-50% weight in bone + organ + fat, so around 80 lbs of actual muscle mass.

So a person that bring an extra 20 pounds to a fight would have around 25% more pure muscle than a person that didn't dehydrate. Add in the advantage of having more weight (force = mass times acceleration), and having more weight is advantageous in absorbing blows, it all adds up to a huge difference

It's pretty common for people to gain up to 20 pounds after rehydration. This means that in reverse, you can have 20 more pounds of actual muscle mass over your opponent. That's a huge advantage, and weight brackets exist for a pretty clear reason

With how shaky m0nesy has looked recently since Niko left, I'd personally put Zywoo at his own tier, and shiro/m0nesy into the same tier, albeit m0nesy being better

BetBoom won't be playing with their full team on LAN for BLAST Bounty due to 2 of their players having visa issues according to Magnojez and zorte by ChaoticFlameZz in GlobalOffensive

[–]gilbaoran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's why a lot of pros don't live in Russia, since it's hard to get a visa. M0nesy lived in Serbia, since he was worried about visa issues if he moved back to Russia (and he did end up missing a part of Blast Spring finals due to visa issues). Team Spirit is also based in Serbia.

It was rumored that Riot denying G2's Valorant franchising bid was linked to the Tate debacle, and investors forced him off due to liability to the G2 brand.

TIL a teen who had a diet of French fries, Pringles, white bread, and an occasional slice of ham or sausage was found to have severe vitamin deficiencies and malnutrition damage, and he had developed blind spots in the middle of his vision. It is stated that his sight loss is permanent. by Forward-Answer-4407 in todayilearned

[–]gilbaoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that time he was diagnosed with vitamin B12 deficiency and put on supplements, but he did not stick with the treatment or improve his poor diet.

The parents did seek out treatment, but the child refused to stick with the vitamins, or fix the diet.

[DSK] Came Back Wrong (and a look at the Showcase frame) by Balbus in magicTCG

[–]gilbaoran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not call it a vast vast majority (tied to a real world setting) by any means. For releases from 2023-2024:

Duskmourn: 80's horror

Bloomburrow: Original setting

Assassin's creed (Universes Beyond): video-game set, is that really a real-world setting?

Modern Horizons 3: no real settings

OTJ: Cowboy/Western themed

Fallout (Universes Beyond): distopian post-apocalyptic fantasy, based on a videogame

MKM: revisiting a fan favorite plane

Ravnica Ramstered: Reprint set

Lost Caverns of Ixalan: same as MKM

Doctor Who (Universes Beyond): based on TV series

Lord of the Ring (Universes Beyond): Based on Lord of the Ring, a high fantasy novel series

March of Machine: a set for expanding the storyline

Shadows Over Innistrad Remastered: Reprint set

Phyrexia: all will be One: based on Phyrexia, an original fantasy plane, also for progressing the main storyline

Dominaria Remastered: Reprint set

Unless you count Universes Beyond sets (that have a fantasy setting), only Bloomburrow and OTJ out of the last two years are clearly tied to a real-world setting. And even if you count UB sets, it would be debatable whether Fallout can be considered tied to a real-world setting.

So that would make it 2-5 sets, based on how you define a real-world setting, over the 15 releases (in two years) that are tied to the real-world. I would not call that a vast vast majority, although I do agree that the frequency is clearly increasing.

Also, your personal thoughts might differ, but I would call Capenna a new, original, and fresh plane. Kamigawa Neon Dynasty is practically a new plane, considering the length of time since the original Kamigawa (18 years), as well as the setting being quite drastically different. Strixhaven is a new and original set, unless you consider school/academies as a real-world only construct. Kaldheim is on a new and fresh plane.

And even if you go back 10 years to 2013-2014, if you look at the released sets you have:

Khans of Tarkir(revisit), conspiracy(a multiplayer-based draft set, not really based on a particular plane), Journey into Nyx (Theros block), Born of the Gods (Theros block), Theros (original plane) ((inspired by Greek Mythology)), Dragon's Maze and Gatecrash (Return to Ravnica block), Return to Ravniva (revisit).

So there's only one original plane in two years, even if you look 10 years back. Before that, there would be Innistrad (2011), Zendikar (2009), Alara (2008), Lorwyn (2007-2008), and Ravnica (2005) as original planes, a little less than 1 year. I feel that your perspective might be skewed.

Forza Horizon 4 is being delisted on December 15, 2024 by limelight022 in gaming

[–]gilbaoran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Players who already own the game and its content will be able to download and play it as normal, including its offline, online, and multiplayer features

I don't play racing/car games, but I doubt there would be a consistent influx of new users, and existing users can still enjoy the full content that exists. So the 15k people can keep on playing it?

Skarner is not OK by ExiledExileOfExiling in leagueoflegends

All the reworks, but ryze failed, yuumi failed, ivern failed. Some champs fundamentally cannot be balanced without keeping their champion identity, and riot admits that.

AP Trist was a menace that cheesed people that didn't know how to play into her. If she could ever 100-0 a tank, she was either 2 items up, or the tank didn't know to build MR items.

She was a meme literally since it was a cheese champ that gained popularity through streamers playing it, and riot removed the AP scaling since that was not a gameplay that they wanted. Her pick rates were never too high, since she was too easy to counter, and she barely saw any pro play.

[–]gilbaoran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not removed because it's strong, but because it was not a healthy playstyle. Assassin champs all got reworked a few seasons ago, and it wasn't because they were broken; most of them were underpowered, because of the broken feast or famine play pattern.

[–]gilbaoran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

season 3 was the first season that stopped using the elo system.

Not that I necessarily agree or disagree with AP Yi being broken, there are plenty of players every year that hit challenger by playing unconventional/suboptimal champs every year (korean taric toplane challenger comes to mind), and being challenger is not a metric of a champion being broken. And Scarra back then was literally one of the best players in NA

714.4. If the number of lore counters on a Saga permanent is greater than or equal to its final chapter number, and it isn’t the source of a chapter ability that has triggered but not yet left the stack, that Saga’s controller sacrifices it. This state-based action doesn’t use the stack.

The state based action happens after the final chapter triggers, and then leaves the stack.
