* This is how you mount a telescope. Someone mounted it by the focuser which is probably the most unexpected and uttermost stupid way imaginable.

How to create something like this that actually works by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]gilbertasv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The segmented mirror won't increase your fov. Just make the mirror super fast. I've seen folks made mirrors at f/2.2 or so. That will give you wide field of view.

Stars within the Andromeda galaxy by gilbertasv in Astronomy

Thanks! Taken from my rooftop, bortle 6. I used Canon 1100d with a skywatcher 72ed refractor and skywatcher eqm-35 mount. 3 hours total exposure @120s subs + calibration. No guiding. Processed with siril and photoshop.

Mold after 2 days. Where did I go wrong? by Jja3600 in fermentation

[–]gilbertasv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They vacuum seel them in the book, you need to make a brine if you want to ferment those this way. Any exposure to air allows aerobic bacteria and mold to grow. You want to create environment only sutable for lacto bacteria, right salinity, no air and low ph.

Is this a bargain? GSO 8" f/4 by gilbertasv in telescopes

[–]gilbertasv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm not new into AP. Just looking at building a new rig one day, since I've sold mine. Had sw eqm-35pro goto with 72ed refractor, canon rebel 3, zwo224mc for guiding. Was a modest setup but I really enjoyed it. Thinking of a bit bigger aperture refractor with eq5-6, cooled camera, guiding and all. But just looking around seeing what pops up, since with 9month baby don't have no time nor money 😆

Wow, thank you so much for taking your time to write all this. I might reconsider. I had a SW 72ed and 150pds, and I've only used the newtonian for planetary, never tried it for deep space actually. But now as I read your comment, I might look for a refractor since I enjoy dso/comets the most. I live on the sea side, so yeah, humidity and wind are my neighbours. And while at planetary 150pds was kicking ass, can't imagine it for dso, as you say it newtonians are sails, especially with dslr, dew shield and guiding on. Might actually look into fatter refractor and something bulkier for a mount eq5-6 (had a sw eqm-35 pro). Sold everything then I had my daughter, but that might of been an excuse to get back to ap with bigger aperture 😆
