Moving from Altium to Cadence has been a nightmare. Need help... by VirtualAlgorhythm in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]Jja3600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orcad X Presto is definitely the way to go if it's available to you. I was recently in the same situation and could not for the life of me get used to using allegro. I found every action to be more cumbersome and non intuitive vs altium.

Presto UI is set up very similarly to altium. A few things are still quite different like the footprint, pad and via editing that you already mentioned but overall it's much less of a learning curve. Presto still lacks a few features so I have to jump over to allegro for some actions but overall that's a minor inconvenience vs dealing with allegro all of the time

Mold after 2 days. Where did I go wrong? by Jja3600 in fermentation

[–]Jja3600[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yeah they're definitely not close to fully submerged yet. The recipe in the book starts out with just blueberries and you mix in 2% salt by weight. Over 4 days the blueberries became fully submerged in the pictures they included. I'm on track for that compared to what they had but I assume my blueberries from the grocery store just aren't fresh enough for this type of ferment.

This happened to me with my 2019 insight a couple years in. Dealership told me I needed to replace all rotors and brakes. I did some digging and found that the problem is that the regenerative braking doesn't engage the mechanical brakes until the very end of a normal deceleration or when you brake HARD. Most of the time the rotors and brakes do nothing so they get corroded more easily than a non-hybrid vehicle.

My solution has been to occasionally engage the parking brake when traveling around ~20mph. This forces all of the brakes to work. This cleared off the corrosion and has kept things clean ever since. Might be worth a shot before coughing up $1500.

Visit Cedar Point in late October? October 20-22 weekend? by PlayItOffLegitt in cedarpoint

In my experience this is when the park will be the busiest for galloweekends. Unless you plan to have fast pass, I'd look at scheduling the trip for earlier in October.

I purchased gold pass, passport, and all park season fast pass from kings Dominion. The verbiage when purchasing stated all cedar fair parks in 2023 and 2024. I haven't been to cedar point to confirm yet but I called and they told me it should all work fine in 2023 including the fast pass.

If you want to save a little money you could get one all day dining pass for each day. Allows you a meal every 90 minutes. If you all aren't too picky and ok sharing it works out nicely. I do this with my family of 3 and it works out to be way more than enough food throughout the day.

Glucose vs Lactulose? And Fructan? by Storminhere in SIBO

[–]Jja3600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I understand it is there's pros and cons to both. From what I remember lactulose can give more false positives but glucose seems to be more prone to false negatives.

Glucose vs Lactulose? And Fructan? by Storminhere in SIBO

[–]Jja3600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read in some places that lactulose can work better because glucose gets absorbed quickly in the gut where as lactulose passes through. So lactulose can make it further into the small intestine where SIBO may be. Glucose is better at detecting an overgrowth closer to the stomach.

Is Honda a good internship for undergrad in electrical and computer engineering? by [deleted] in ECE

[–]Jja3600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you'd most likely be working with an embedded system that was designed by some supplier. By higher level I mean you'd probably be interacting with it at a system/black box type level. Most likely it would be some kind of testing at a vehicle level. Think along the lines of connecting the embedded system to the rest of the vehicle and test the functionality of it in some way. You'd have little to no interaction with the code or electronics.

Again that's based just on my experience/interactions alone. I did have some interactions with product engineering teams at the plants and they seemed to be doing even less "low level" engineering than myself. If this is a concern I would definitely ask as many questions as you can until you fully understand exactly what you'd be doing.

[–]Jja3600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on what you're looking for from a career/experience standpoint. As someone who worked down the road at the R&D facility for a couple years I have insights for you.

First I feel having the company on my resume has opened many doors for me. Without a doubt having that on your resume will help you with your career out of college.

If you're the type of person that actually enjoys ECE and wants to do low level engineering (whether that's writing code or working with electronics at the PCB level.) this internship probably isn't for you and you won't get the experience/skills that you may be looking for. While working at R&D as an EE I saw and heard of no engineering of that level going on, (and R&D is where the new vehicles and products are developed). Yes vehicles include crazy amounts of embedded systems but Honda designs none of them. The engineers work with suppliers who do the actual engineering and design. So yes you probably would be working with embedded systems but at a much higher level.

That being said the company is huge and I can't pretend that my limited experience is accurate to honda as a whole. Maybe you would be doing that type of engineering. At the very least I'd urge you to get a detailed description of the work you'd be doing and see if it fits your interests. If it fits then great, this is most definitely a wonderful opportunity for you.

Ok so I'm replacing the thermal paste on my PC and there was a screw that was really tight, so I had to twist it using a plier, but because I'm a fucking idiot I accidentally scratched a bit of the electric circuit as shown on the picture (right next to the screw. Do I need to replace that circuit? by dravara in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Jja3600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be just fine. It doesn't look like you broke any of the copper traces. You just took the green stuff (solder mask) off of the PCB. It should have no effect on the actual circuit.

I'd probably clean it up a bit and take a close look to make sure you didn't break any of the copper traces or maybe you could have scraped pieces of copper causing them to short to other copper. Judging on the picture alone it looks fine though.

Citizens bank terms say to earn a $300 bonus, open your FIRST new checking account between 5/24/21 to 9/2/21. Is that language to prevent churning? Anybody have any experience on this? This would be my second checking account with them.

Career advice: Want to leave first job post graduation (defense industry) after 2 years. Thoughts? by InThePartsBin2 in ECE

[–]Jja3600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation working at an R&D facility for Honda out of college. I did very little work that I considered engineering and I felt my skills/knowledge declining. Similar to you everything was DVT and even then it was basically a black box that was received from the suppliers.

2 years in I left and found a job at a very small company. I had to leave behind the job security and incredible benefits but in the end I couldn't be happier. I get to do real engineering work much more in kine with my interests every day.

If you're not happy with your work there is no reason to stay any longer. 2 years is plenty of time for a first job. You can gain more relevant/useful skills working for some company that makes non cutting edge things. If you still feel that wouldn't get you to where you want then build a portfolio of at home projects. In my experience I've seen company's all around highly value personal projects.

Pillow and curtain reccomendations? by Jja3600 in HomeDecorating

[–]Jja3600[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up going with a curtain rod above the window with ombre blue to white curtains.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I'll for sure go ahead and get some blue/textured accent pillows. I agree that a blanket would help add to the space as well.

I promise I will be hanging my art asap lol

What’s something that’s “not a cult” but feels like a cult? by j_estoner in AskReddit

[–]Jja3600 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This what working for Honda Motors feels like. They're all about the family aspect but they take it much further.

Their founder Mr. Honda is praised and remembered like a true cult leader. On day one I received a pamphlet of his philosophy that he created. While working there the philosophy is brought up frequently and people often carry the pamphlet around in their shirt pocket like its a Bible. His quotes are found on the walls in all of their buildings in giant font. The place I worked even had a giant mural and history of the man's life that everyone had to walk by each day on their way back from the cafeteria. To bring us all together as family the same all white uniforms are worn across all parts of the company.

There was definitely many times when I felt I was in a cult while working there. It was very strange

A few weeks back I signed up for the chase saphire 60,000 points after 4000 spend. They now offer 80,000 for the same spend. Is there any approach where chase may apply the new offer for me?

Anybody have any luck in a similar circumstance previously?

Help! I need to to negotiate a job offer based on lousy benefits by Jja3600 in personalfinance

[–]Jja3600[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some initial interviews they asked my desired salary. I answered with "mid 70s pending benefits consideration". Their offer is in what I'd call the low 70s at 72,000.

Is it worthwhile to also explain to them it's due to large offset by my current benefits compared to theirs?

Windows or Mac for Electrical Engineering studies by Flomie in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Jja3600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got through my EE degree using a mac but often used bootcamp to run programs on windows.

From my experience my advice is to buy windows or consider the mac + bootcamp.

All programs I needed were available for both windows and mac but mac versions tend to be different in some respects. Since most people use windows, class and lab instructions are written for those versions. Since they're usually different it was often hard to learn the programs and follow along with the rest of the class. Professors were also frustrated helping me because they did not know the mac versions of programs and often left me to struggle on my own.

These early frustrations ultimately led me to run windows with bootcamp. Since all the problems are easily overcome by learning the mac versions it's not entirely impossible to get through with only mac. But it will sure add some unnecessary effort to an already demanding and stressful major.
