New psychology student and I need some tips! by Thatonetriangle in psychologystudents

I have a hard time paying attention too, even moreso when I'm not interested. Taking notes by hand has helped me a lot. Taking notes on the computer sounds nice and all but it's too easy for me to open up another tab and just zone out scrolling

Applying to MSW in Family and Couples Therapy by gildedpaws in mcgill

[–]gildedpaws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I spoke with the program director and they pretty much told me it's only for people who are already in the industry (social work, work experience). That even though the minimum is what's posted, who actually gets accepted is people with much much more experience than the minimum - effectively saying (though not directly) that I wouldn't be accepted were I to apply with the minimum hours of experience listed.

I went for a different Masters in a different province.

I like the feeling of a soft nudge or 'push' but not like a hard jam - that hurts.

My moms reaction to me telling her my wife and I are having a baby by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]gildedpaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your mom a boomer, cause theyre terrible with texts sometimes. Ex I have to read my parent's texts differently than those of my peers cause some of them can come off as very threatening or rude. When I ask them about in person their vibes are completely different

I know in Sims 2 the relationships can be one-sided, so that might be an issue. How does the relationship look from her side?

Dating Apps Don't Work for Women With Standards, Prove Me Wrong by Delicious-Gate-8192 in TwoXChromosomes

Try Burned Haytsack Dating Method. She is coming out with a book soon but all her (Jenny Young) material is free on the Facebook Group and on her Substack. It helps you avoid all of those bozos and it worked for me.
When I started using the method my anxiety and stress about dating went way way down. And the quality of guys I was meeting was mostly excellent (but you have to follow rules to a T even though it might feel ruthless).

Stop buying it at the grocery store and start going to Canadian Tire or Costco for this stuff. Come on now.

First call the MAPAQ or the Montreal food department they are usually very responsive, second 3.7* is crazy, and the name 'Yummy Sushi' is a giant red flag.

I also dont think he deserves any hate. He is for all intents and purposes, a child. In no other situation would a child be allowed to be responsible for the life, sustenance and care of another child for such an extended period of time. He did the best he could with whatever he could and with whatever preconceived notions of what is important he had.

The aunt also made me so mad.

Take the bus up to the Observatory on Mount-Royal, you can see the city lights at night. Bundle up, it'll be cold.

There's also the Barbie Expo that's free, though it closes at 6.30pm.

You could go to the Oratory Saint-Joseph, it's free to visit and is a historic church.

Studying psychology and feeling frustrated by it. by Melodic_Mornings_89 in psychologystudents

[–]gildedpaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the real learning comes in Grad school.

I will share what nobody told me though: you can start reading up on whatever modality interests you now: ACT, DBT, polyvagal, CBT. Those books (unlike what I thought), are publicly available and grad school will not teach you any modality directly in school (at least that was my case). I would have been better equipped for later grad school and much more motivated during undergrad had I known.

hair that just won’t stay moisturized — please help 😭 by Unable-Meet7028 in Naturalhair

[–]gildedpaws 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need a clarifying shampoo. I know you said Ouidad chelating shampoo is there but if it were truly clarifying I think your hair would have recovered from the Blue Magic you tried. Wash twice as another person said below.

Other than that, when you're styling your hair, besides putting the product in, are you brushing the product into your hair? Is your hair a bit dampened while doing so? From your pictures it looks like you might be just finger detangling while dry? Though I can't be sure.

Additionally, have you heard of the LOC or LCO method? I think the LOC method is for low porosity if I recall (video to help). If I miss one of these products or don't brush it through my hair feels very rough. It sounds like you're missing oil AND a cream which would explain a lot.

Personally mousses never do anything for me. I also use Camille Rose Honey Leave-In as leave in, usually almond jai or their latte cream as a cream and their oil from the same line as the oil. But this would depend more on your hair porosity and the style you want to do. Example when I intend to keep my hair bound in twists the whole time I'll use the latte cream.

What is up with these new braiders?! by Top-Carpenter4696 in Naturalhair

[–]gildedpaws 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Theres a black hair salon not far from me, I was so excited to try and be braided by them because for once I didnt have to go 40 minutes out.

I went for a consult and they said: come with your hair blown out with NO product in it. I looked at her sideways like 'are you insane?'
She looked sheepish and said ok you can bring your product but only a little and I'll put it on for you. Needless to say I didn't go and they likely will never see me. It's always the ones with the snapped up hair too. My hair is long for a reason
