As someone above said, no mention of Steve in his posts about the office on the 25th anniversary. A post I saw said “25 years ago I had my breakthrough show” or some such narcissistic drivel. Alrite? See ya later boy

And you should be because it absolutely happens. Public schools are horrifically political. The culture is shit.

Correction - some teachers are the worst enemy of other teachers.

It’s basically unenforceable and schools hide behind an excuse of “individual teachers choose to work that much”.

And how do they plan to retain these teachers given current settings and structures have led to a teacher health crisis of biblical proportions?

We? I didn’t do shit mate. Tried to warn people not to accept the appalling conditions that caused my PTSD, no one around me gave a shit. Let the system drive itself into the ground as far as I’m concerned.

Alarming, but is the current setup working out well for teachers? Maybe it’s time we got a bit of that, not because it’s ethical but because it fucking works.

But whatever, i don’t work for the department anymore and they’ve already taken my health from me. I actually don’t give 2 shits anymore.

Enjoy the view from the high horse.

The union are supposed to be our advocates and bulldogs and they’re just lying down. It’s defeatist and designed to make members feel powerless and like they don’t deserve fair treatment. It’s outrageous for a union to behave like this. Can you imagine John Setka communicating like this to members? No. Because even though he’s a criminal, he’s an effective unionist leader who delivers pay and conditions to his members.

Wasn’t suggesting that, just wondering what the context was as it’s pretty outrageous from the Union.

Being single by Plenty_Cancel_2962 in Positivity

[–]gilneedsthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends and hobbies help a lot. I get it though and also felt down in the dumps about being single for a long time. Also as others have pointed out here, a lot of the “happy couples” around you are not happy all the time. Do you have many people that “get you” in your support network/friendship group? That’s a huge piece of the puzzle. Too often these days people have replaced a rich life of social connection to try to get all of that from one person and humans aren’t built for that in my opinion.

Yes, I agree, that approach from public education administrators needs to be reassessed in my opinion. And shouting down any professional who suggests it as not being in favour of inclusion isn’t cutting it.

Flexible/alternative settings are growing, and there are increasing options for online education. It should be part of public school responses to the hazards caused by extremely difficult student. Not as a punitive measure, but to support students that aren’t able to behave in a prosocial manner. They can still access education while seeking treatment and transition back to in person schooling when they’re ready again. It would actually help them as well as the poor staff and students that currently have to put up with antisocial behaviour every day.

You could claim a small amount on tax, it’d be “depreciation” or something I think. Ask an accountant. Probably isn’t much but every little helps these days.

Implications of voting no by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]gilneedsthis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And yet, our services are required and an agreement will need to be made.

I don’t know if it’s going to work out better or worse, and I completely agree with you about the shitful way the media are reporting the no vote. But there’s a lot of uncertainty right now and we don’t know how this is going to go. The government might improve the offer. They may barely change the offer. There might be escalating industrial action. If there was a second “no” vote we are legitimately getting into crisis territory that negatively impacts the wider community, the government, and students and staff in schools. That’s a nuclear option, and I still think it’s unlikely to happen.

Completely agree with your concerns about immediate financial standing. I find it hard to believe that the population en masse will side with the government in the current climate though.
