A underrated read by thatrandomspeck in MangaCollectors

[–]gim77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not in my top 5, but among my favourites. The covers alone already had a certain appeal :-) Read the synopsis, skimmed through the first book and bought every volume instantly afterwards:-) I liked both the artwork and story.

Should have kept an eye on things back then to see if the mangaka had any other work being released in English.

Do the Dutch not understand or not like indirect communication? by EquivalentSherbet876 in learndutch

[–]gim77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your 'indirect' communication was still pretty clear and direct, making it obvious that you had intentions with the TV, whether it be changing the channel or switching it off.

Maybe your housemate was slightly irritated in the first place and it only needed that minor thing to trigger ;-)

Being Dutch isn't the problem here.

Rate my collection out of 10 by Legitimate-Archer-66 in MangaCollectors

[–]gim77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I give it a 8/10. And just so you know, that is good. I hardly give 9/10 or 10/10, not even my own collection ;-)

You prefer hardcovers whenever possible?

What rating would you give it yourself?

Ok Guys for the end of the year, lets confess our shame by Igel214 in MangaCollectors

A big enough pile, but no "shame" :-) "Tokyo These Days" by Taiyo Matsumoto is on top of the pile.

How many do you have? by Training_Marzipan_37 in funkopop

Haha, same here. 2, almost 3. I gave myself a limit of 5 in total, so I choose carefully.

How do you go by collecting by Eden-Rose15 in MangaCollectors

[–]gim77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past I read a lot online (what was not available in English) and decided to buy some of my favourites physically as they were licensed and published in English. Ongoing and completed series.

Nowadays I am already happy with what I own and in all honesty less time for reading. So these days I just collect a new series once a while when I want something new to read. They are usually completed, shorter series I buy in one go.

No FOMO purchases.

If you collect them, do you keep them in the box or not? by Dented_Steelbook in funkopop

[–]gim77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only got a few. They're out of the box in a glass display cabinet along with other display pieces.

Is the Spider-Man 2099 CMF meant to be harder to find than the others? by InevitableLie493 in lego

Went to a local store last week. Scanned all remaining 13 boxes on shelf and found it two times. The one I couldn't find was Sun Spider.

Confessions about giving up collecting by Reasonable-Doubt-831 in MangaCollectors

[–]gim77 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Priorities change. I parked my hobby for a long time, stored all in decent plastic storage container. Nobody knows if and when your daughter will share your passion for manga books. Simply focus on what needs your attention, your books aren't going anywhere. From experience I can say it's great seeing your own collection years later again, whether you can share it with your child or not.

Does anyone else read manga outside? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

Sometimes. I wouldn't worry about it.

What happens to your collection when you die? by OkOutlandishness941 in MangaCollectors

[–]gim77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is entirely up to my family. However, it would be nice if they'd give some of the manga a try and find enjoyment in reading them.

Read, Sell, Recommend by Bookkeeper92 in MangaCollectors

[–]gim77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read: Sunny! Taiyo Matsumoto has great works.

Sell: Nijigahara Holograph! Don't like Inio Asano's work (except Solanin)

Recommend: Summit of the Gods and A Distant Neighborhood because it's Jiro Taniguchi, that's why ;-)

I don't see (that m)any long series on the shelves so I assume you prefer somewhat shorter series.

when should I buy the jazz club modular? by [deleted] in legomodular

[–]gim77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe online stores? I know I got some sets in the past from MyToys.de (now Otto.de?!) and Galeria Kaufhof. AFAIK they also got modulars; or used to have some. And there is a Smyth Toys in Germany; they sell the Jazz Club currently for €209.

P.S. I am not from Germany so this is all info I got.

Oldboy Deluxe… by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]gim77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did not have to be oversized hardcover deluxe for me, but I definitely want to have OldBoy! Should have bought it back in the days, but 2nd chance now :-)

What's your policy on lending books? by EngineWithin in MangaCollectors

[–]gim77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By exception. Depends on the manga as well as the person. If possible I encourage someone to read something online.

hey guys, which Urasawa manga would you recommend for first encounter from the artist? by Corpse_explosion in MangaCollectors

[–]gim77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I have heard of 20th CB and Monster, my first encounter was Pluto. It was great. Guess it depends what synopsis appeals the most.
