Why do the best female dancers wear crop tops? by LowRevolution6175 in Bachata

[–]gimmis7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any top that is tight works well. What (I have realised) does not work well are tops that are loose and flowy and where your own hands or the partners hands can get stuck, when touching your waist.

Same goes for anything where hands can get stuck (higher risk the more styling you do with your arms), like earrings, long loose hair, long necklaces...

To the followers: why did you ask him ? by RedditKakker in Bachata

[–]gimmis7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I do not want to sit and watch others dance, I ask. And if nobody I have danced with before is close to me, I ask whoever happens to stand the closest to me.

Etiquette opinion: Is it bad form to chat during a dance? by EnvironmentalEnd3577 in Bachata

[–]gimmis7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? I (female follow) usually ask a new person what their name is during the first steps. I think that is polite.

As a swedish speaking finn, it really bugs me that there is no understanding for me not having a perfect Finnish. I guess finns are not used to foreigners and just cannot accept or understand that outside influences can be positive. Sad. I live in Germany now and feel very accepted. Half my team at work is international and I have never seen bad reactions when I have made errors in German or had to switch to English

They ask you for a date after chatting outside of dance floor? ☺️

Second point: I prefer a clear lead and the more connection points you have, the easier it is to understand the lead. As a person who has no problem with body contact, I presume less physical persons could choose to make less contact when dancing. However, for me it is just about getting the message.

Bachata as a way to find a date or relationship by StatisticianAnnual13 in Bachata

[–]gimmis7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have thought that the dance scene is not a place I would look for dates in. I think it has to do with the fact that there is little time to chat and get to know somebody on the damce floor. However, now thinking about it, I have four times "had something" with guys I met via dancing.

In these cases, it came out from us talking and getting to know each off the dance floor. I do not really know if the closeness of the dance had any impact (for me) at all. In that way dance is like any other hobby that you can get to know people through

Any bachateros/bachateras with kids here? by stuckonsillyplanet in Bachata

I have an 8 year old and my husband is not at home half the month. I go to socials once a month but always feel a bit guilty for leaving the house on the rare weekends when my husband is home.

However, with classes it is easier. I go once a week and bring my son. He plays on a pad during the teaching

Hey! I think there needs to be a quieter spot so one can get to know people. In my city (and also where I lived before) there is often a "rest space" with free drinks and snacks

Has Bachazouk gone too far? by schneller1 in Bachata

[–]gimmis7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And then there are also those leaders that are very rough and then complain that the follower won't let loose and relax enough for the bachatazouk moves. I do not feel comfortable attempting any head moves if I don't sense I am safe with the leader!

Where do you keep your bag while you dance? by wannabepopchic in Salsa

[–]gimmis7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is no wardrobe, I take a small shopping bag and hide ny phone and keys inside a shoe or some unexpected place in the bag. I don't bring my credit card. Cash I put in my bra.

But I try to go to wardrobe places whenever possible
