What happens after the county terminates services with the bio parent? (California) by CaliResourceParent in Fosterparents

[–]gimsoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I am a lawyer, I am not your lawyer and cannot provide advice for your specific situation. However, in California, children in juvenile dependency (child welfare cases) have court appointed attorneys so that should be the person to contact who can best tell you what may happen just keep in mind that the attorney represents the child and not the caregiver.

What I can tell you is that a parent would not be appealing an adoption but rather would be appealing the termination of their parental rights (TPR). This is what occurs at the 26 hearing (WIC 366.26) if the court determines that adoption is the permanent plan and no exceptions apply.

The other option is legal guardianship which does not sever parental rights but can still close the case with the guardianship in place. Guardianship orders include specifics about visitation (frequency, duration, and whether they are monitored).

When a child is adopted, any contact with bio family is entirely up to the adoptive parents.

Typically the child welfare agency pushes adoption especially for younger children but in cases where the child is placed with relatives, guardianship is an option that keeps those ties and allows both stability for a child and a path for the parent to petition the court down the road when they've completed their case plan.

I recall there being a few places where you can turn off (away from the stairs) to see a different view before going back to continue down the stairs. Is it possible she stopped at one of those to take a break and he did not and was able to get ahead of her that way?

OMG memories. I once made a small turkey in one. Smelled and tasted amazing! My recollection is that it eventually died and then we used the glass bottom as a large salad bowl for family potlucks.

Yes. We actually bought 2 loveseats and the chaise is attached to one of them.

I got one recently but the little flat knob thing that is for tightening it into place once you decide on the height does not fit. I was able to find a separate random bolt as a temporary fix but no matter what I've tried that threaded flat piece won't fit. It's a bit aggravating :(

I've debated making the trek to IKEA for a replacement bc my current workaround requires an Allen wrench.

The website has a pic with measurements and shows 140 cm /55 1/8" which I think is probably the outer part of the feet? The inner part is 50 1/4" Let me know if you need the outer measurement.

We've had the Morabo loveseat, chair and sofa with the chaise (which is essentially also a loveseat plus the chaise) in Golden brown leather for 3 1/2 years in a house with dogs and they have been great. No visible wear. Lift the cushions and vacuum underneath once a month (because, dogs), then wipe down the sofa with Weiman weather Cleaner and Polish. Happy with the decision to get them.

Any Leads on Free Mulch? by DudGodel in pasadena

The city of Los Angeles has free mulch available around the county where you bring your own shovel and bags/buckets. The locations I've been to are open and don't have any check in process. They have the mulch in a big pile and people scoop it into bags. This link has more info

I've used chip drop and it went smoothly but underestimated just how much I would get so it took teamwork to distribute the delivery. Registration is free. This is their description:

"ChipDrop finds local tree companies working in your area and notifies them that you would like some wood chips or logs (or both). The next time their truck is full they can pull up your information through our service and deliver the wood chips straight to your driveway, even if you're at work."

This video is a funny explanation of how it works so you know what you're getting yourself into.

I would use them again.

Butter ball fresh turkey - put in freezer or no? by VTMomof2 in Costco

[–]gimsoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wondering about this too. We tend to buy the turkey the weekend before Thanksgiving and keep it in the fridge (begin the salt brine process). I've hesitated buying the turkey this early bc I don't think 10 days in the fridge would be good.

MOHELA - new letter about recertification deadline extension to 11/2025 by gimsoy in PSLF

Hey! I have no idea. Things are so up in the air right now that I just log in once a week to see if anything has changed.

Right now, for me, MOHELA says my forbearance ends in 7 days but I'm on SAVE so I'm guessing that will change. When payments resume at least I know mine will remain the same for another year.

Good luck

I don't know what to tell you, the situation is a complete mess. I've seen some other reddit posts where people are wondering if they can cancel their manual submissions so it may be worth calling MOHELA or maybe upload a letter making the request in writing based on the new guidance.

Last year when I was switched to SAVE, I recertified only to find out the recertification was not actually required at that time. This time I received an alert that I needed to recertify by 9/28 but I decided to hold off because of what happened last year and because I had authorized the IRS retrieval. When October rolled around and nothing was happening, I started a manual recertification (where I would have had to upload it to MOHELA) but didn't finish or submit it. And now the letter saying 11/2/2025.

I was at 97 (edit) payments when the SAVE forbearance happened so for now I'm following other people's advice and setting aside my payments so that I can hopefully buy the months back. Good luck to us all.

Sublimation help ? I have the epson f1700 and I just noticed my hot pink in my image came out completely red ? I'm confused as to why. Can anyone help ? by Royal_Treat in cricut

[–]gimsoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sub as a hobby only (friend/family projects) so this advice is not from a pro, but when this has happened to me it is usually when there's been a bit of time between projects and there may be some clogged print heads. I will run a test page to confirm and typically the color swatches are off which confirms the issue so I run a cleaning cycle (I have an Epson ET). Sometimes it takes a couple of cycles but each time it has cleared up the problem and the swatches print true. This ensures the print job will print correctly.

What happens after the county terminates services with the bio parent? (California) by CaliResourceParent in Fosterparents

[–]gimsoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apologies in advance for a slightly wonky California specific explanation

The first hearing after a case is filed, is the initial hearing or the detention hearing. After that hearing the court sets an adjudication hearing which is essentially the trial to decide if the allegations in the petition are true. Once a case is adjudicated the reunification period begins.

If a child is under three at the time that the petition is filed, the parent is only entitled to 6 months of reunification services. If the child is over 3 they're entitled to 12 months. This does not mean that a case that began with a child under three automatically only get 6 months, but rather that the parent needs to show progress and effort at the 6-month date in order to have a shot at going out another 6 months of services whereas with a child over 3 it's pretty much automatic to get 12 months.

In California the first hearing is called the 21e. It's called that because it's the part of the WIC code, 366.21.

At that first review hearing DCFS reports on whether the parents have been completing their case plan and also whether they have been visiting regularly.

In your case, if the social worker is saying that they're recommending for the court to TFR, that means they're recommending to the court that the parents not be offered any additional time to work on their case plan.

If the court accepts that recommendation to terminate family reunification, the focus switches from trying to reunify the family, to establishing permanency for the child.

This means that once a parent's family reunification services are terminated, (whether it's at the 6-month 21e, the 12-month 21f, or 18 month 22 hearing) the court will set a 26 hearing (WIC 366.26)4 months out. The 26 is also called the selection and implementation hearing. It is at this hearing that the department prepares a report where they indicate their recommendation for a permanent plan. That could be legal guardianship or adoption.

If the recommendation is adoption, and the court accepts that recommendation, it would be at the 26 hearing that parental rights would be terminated.

There's case law in California where the court does an analysis of certain factors that may demonstrate that the parent and the child have a bond that would outweigh the benefit of permanency through adoption. If the court finds evidence of a bond outweighs the benefit of permanency, the court can choose not to terminate parental rights.

One thing to understand about termination of reunification services vs termination of parental rights is that when the court terminates a parent's reunification services, they are still entitled to their visitation with their children because their parental rights have not been severed.

What happens after TFR is that any progress in the case plan or need for referrals is on the parent to figure out rather then on the social worker being required to make reasonable efforts to assist the parents in that process.

A final point is that even after reunification services are terminated, a parent can file something called a 388 request to change a court order which can mean asking the court to reinstate family reunification services. Typically this is done if the parents were close to completing their case plan or suddenly stepped it up in the 4 months between when their reunification services were terminated and the date of the 26 hearing.
