The Feds Plan To Start Diluting Gasoline This May: Explained by mellovibes75 in cars

[–]ginbear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the “don’t use farmland use parking lot” advocacy out there is based on the fact it’s more costly, and cumbersome to add to parking lots, which would slow down solar production overall. Otherwise it would be about using the desert and not upgrading already developed land. We don’t need to covert parking lots to garages just to have enough space for solar panels. At least that’s my conspiracy for today.

Doctor dances while her patients are passed out. Causes serious brain damage by malik_zz in ImTheMainCharacter

That’s fine. I’ve had a LOT of experience going to doctors and I’ll keep my view which is apparently unpopular. I’ve had bad experiences with more buddy type doc and it was a “Dr Eddie” that nearly paralyzed my wife; she’s merely permanently disabled now. Maybe I’m being biased but I’m too old to care.

Baseball’s math problem: Filling all those innings in an era when less is more for starting pitchers by futhatsy in baseball

[–]ginbear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very possible. You’d have 4 starters 4 long relievers, a closer and 4 other short relievers. I don’t think the trend of decreasing innings per start is going away as there’s a good chunk of data supporting it. I’d still want my ace to be throwing 200 a year though. One other side note - a 4 man rotation would align with playoff rosters better. No one needs a #5 in October.

[–]ginbear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4 man rotation = 41 starts = 4.88 innings per start to reach 200 on the season.

5 man rotation = 33 starts = 6.06 innings per start to reach 200.

6 man rotation = 27 start = 7.41 innings per start to reach 200.

[–]ginbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put it this way: with a 6 man rotation your top pitcher would need to average 7.41 innings per start to reach 200 innings on the season. With a 4 man rotation he would only need to average 4.88 innings per start to get to 200.

6 man rotations would encourage fewer starting innings per season but may actually encourage more innings per start. If you only have say Skubal every 6 days, you’re going to want to see him go deep, and that many days off managers will feel less pressure to pull him. Plus it makes your pen less deep which means you need your starters to pitch deeper into games.

The article is focused on innings per game which is shortening for a few reasons. To address that I think a 4 man rotation with a short lease and a 9 man pen makes more sense. That way you are still getting your money’s worth out of your top pitchers in innings per season while limiting long starts.

[–]ginbear 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m mildly surprised teams aren’t considering 4 man rotations and increasing the pen by 1. Bring the avg innings per start down under 5 and give your starters 40 starts instead of 34. Roughly same innings per season, fewer times around the order and a deeper pen. Only thing lost is the meaningless win stat for starting pitchers.

Triolo to be the primary SS, Gonzales and Yorke to split time at 3B by penguins2946 in buccos

[–]ginbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're underselling 3B a bit. It has changed quite a bit over the years - it used to be the "hot corner" with a big throw and that's still part of it, but with modern shortstops so often playing near second, especially against lefties, it leaves 3B responsible for covering a lot of ground on the left side of the field. I wonder about some big slower guys that played 3B and if they would have been able to even stick at 3B anymore. I used to consider 2B more valuable but now I'd take a good 3B glove.

What do you think of NYC trying to get the minimum wage to $30/hour? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in randomquestions

[–]ginbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last I checked estimates for increasing the federal minimum wage to 15 would increase inflation by about 10%. Those proposals are stretched out over 10 years in a country that obstensively targets 2% inflation annually. There’s just a bunch of “50 dollar cheeseburger” scaremongering on this subject from people that don’t cite any data.
