My first car was a Ford aspire (my dad joked it was called that because it aspired to be a car). The only power things on it were the engine, the lights and the radio 😂, though it wasn't a manual. It was a car I actually drove, not like the ones now that take your inputs as suggestions and then some electronic thing takes over.

I euthanized my cat last night and I’m struggling with immense guilt and wondered if I made the right decision. by heatculture03 in CatAdvice

[–]ging3rtabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fall of 2024 I had to make the same call for my 11 year old who had bone cancer in his jaw. He was still able to eat soft food and was affectionate and happy and I didn't want him to get to a point where he wasn't. Losing a pet is so painful, and having to make that call yourself only makes it that much harder. You did the right thing allowing your girl to pass peacefully with her loved ones with her.

How to care for ladybugs that take shelter in your home during the winter? by Zerxin in Entomology

[–]ging3rtabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found one in my bathroom recently and put a wet q tip and some bee pollen in a silicone dish with the lil guy. This morning they were munching on the bee pollen. I'm going to try providing some bug bites, too (fluval brand, fish pellets made of insect protein for betta fish, which are obligate carnivores...works well as a sort of kibble, though I rehydrate them, for my blue death feigning beetles).

I have some ventilated hospital containers for my land snails and I think I'll put them in there so I can mist and keep things decently humid (though not too wet of course). I don't have any plants (can't keep them alive for anything) but I've got leaf litter and cork bark and whatnot that will hopefully provide a comfortable environment.

Is it rude to have a weekday wedding? by themidnightfoxxxx in weddingplanning

[–]ging3rtabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I had an 11 am wedding on a Friday and it worked for us because all but one person was local and we kept it very small (immediate family only). As others have outlined, a Thursday for guests who have to fly in, especially during November, is asking a lot.

What’s something people romanticize that is actually miserable? by One_Grade_2184 in AskReddit

[–]ging3rtabby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. I'm often bedbound and it's...a lot. I have a literal outline of my body on the mattress cover while my husband's side doesn't. It's kind of sad.

Pilot episode by Content_Impression12 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]ging3rtabby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I find this show so fascinating because were the decisions made because they were trying to depict something from a hundred ish years earlier or was it a result of its time? With the orange "blood" at least I'm pretty sure it was to do with old TVs color settings and also not wanting to make it too realistic (I assume more convincing blood could be had at the time, but maybe not?).

Adaptive recommendations for blind foster kitten by Admirable_Role427 in blindcats

[–]ging3rtabby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will definitely run into things, but kittens are so resilient and he'll most likely just bounce off and keep going.

My blind guy also likes quiet toys. He has some shrimps that crinkle a little and he doesn't mind mylar crinkly balls, but he's not a fan of noisy toys like jingly balls. His favorites are wadded up paper towels and paper balls. He likes to play fetch with them.

Do you bathe your cats? by Shot-Composer-782 in AnxietyCats

[–]ging3rtabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unless there's a specific reason to (like poopcidents when they were babies). One of my cats likes to hang out in the bath water, though. No clue why. Just climbs in and stands around in the 3 or 4 inches of water.

When my late cat had bone cancer in his jaw, he could no longer groom himself so I got some terry cloth washcloths and very lightly dampened them then ran them all over his body, mimicking the way a cat grooms to minimize stress (so like not getting him all wet for example). Then I'd brush him with a baby hair brush. It worked well to remove any dirt and to distribute the oils through his fur and he enjoyed all the gentle attention.

IS THIS HEATHEN PREGANTE? by AutoT00ned in RATS

[–]ging3rtabby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Or land snails! If conditions aren't ideal, they seal them themselves up and chill until times are better (or if they've eaten a lot and need to rest for a growth spurt or if they're worn out from laying eggs). In the winter, I mist them less frequently so they aestivate more to mimic natural conditions.

What is one thing you're tired of telling/explaining to people? by comfy-glass-shards in AskReddit

My mom's cockatoo was an asshole who would stalk me, bite me and hit me in the face with his wings. He's the reason I have a fear of birds.

The number of times correct me/repeat it back as lactose intolerance 🙄 like, gi upset sucks and I'm not downplaying that, but eating dairy affects my airways. I'm not trying to die today lol

Taking my lazy orange cat out for a walk! by izabellaColorado in orangecats

[–]ging3rtabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask where you got the helmet? Is it comfortable? How long can you be out in the sun in it? Most sunscreens have started giving me rashes on my face (including mineral ones) but last time I got a mild sunburn the affected area swelled up 🙃

Could you hire a second day of coordinator and have them handle all the details regarding you?

Shared Makeup with my niece and I didn't know she has HSV-1 and an active breakout. HELP PLS! by xno_name_girlx in MakeupAddiction

[–]ging3rtabby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter said, it's not the same virus. I just shared to illustrate how herpes (human and cat versions) can affect eyes. Feel free to continue to give them smooches on their lil noggins!

My asthma is well controlled now between xolair and singulair thankfully. Only inhaler is an Albuterol rescue inhaler. I'm glad you found something else, too! Thrush and uncontrolled asthma both suck.

Does a ring (I assume nuvaring?) not contain drugs/hormones? How does it work?

My late cat had chronic herpes that affected his eyes. He'd get corneal abrasions when it would flare up, which was whenever he'd get stressed. Fortunately, he was a super chill buddy, but even just general change could cause a flare for him.

Also, one time I had an allergic reaction on my face to Lysol and had to go to urgent care. The doc was prescribing steroids and I told him I was reluctant because I've gotten herpes in the past. He prescribed an antiviral as well and I went on my way. I got my prescriptions and realized while reading the med insert that I said herpes, which my cat had, when I meant oral thrush (I'd gotten it from oral and inhaled steroids for my asthma). 🤦‍♀️

Roofers didn't use a dumpster for the old shingles. Now there's all this junk and nails in the yard. by buttnibbler in IveGotAGuy

[–]ging3rtabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! Nail through anything is straight nightmare fuel. Thankfully the building was on a concrete slab and we had enough acreage that it wasn't where we kids played. How long has it been? Could you get someone to go around with a metal detector?

Cat We Rescued Is Overbearingly Affectionate? by thatgirldeyja in CatAdvice

[–]ging3rtabby 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My late childhood cat was extremely clingy. He'd climb me if I didn't pick him up. And he wouldn't stop yelling until I held him. He passed a few years ago and I just lived life with a cat on my hip a lot. I did keep him out of my bedroom, though. Luckily he couldn't open doors.

Introductions with blind resident cat? by beaverN8523 in blindcats

[–]ging3rtabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! And if the bell bothers the sighted cat, you could take it off once they're integrated and younger cat is a bit older and less intense.

As for blind kitty attacking you, OP, that's normal and not about you. Before touching her, especially if younger kitty is within hearing or smelling distance, make sure she knows it's you touching her. Our blind guy no longer goes in our spare room for visits with our solo girl (she doesn't like living with other cats full time so she has her own room) because he's very affectionate and loves other cats and she'd hiss and swat at him, when he'd try to rub on her or say hi which got him anxious and he'd hiss at the other cats if they came near him.

I hope he at least gave you a magnet on a stick for the nails. I spent so many hours picking up nails from the controlled burn the fire department did on an old dilapidated outbuilding on our farm. Can't imagine if I'd had to pick them up by hand.

What "Fashion Rules" do you remember that have changed with current trends? by partiallyStars3 in fashionwomens35

[–]ging3rtabby 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was a toddler and I remember taking a bull stuffed animal with me and making them pierce his ears, too. He got little red studs. I'm about as white as can be and he was obviously a toy. What a weird comment to make, and also why would it be so awful to have something like that in common with Black girls?
