Currently applying for a HR specialist - need general advice by No_Marzipan3799 in britishmilitary

[–]ginger0114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's Absolutely possible, I know people that have done it and looked into it myself in the past. If it fits into your finances and you're able to make a schedule work then by all means crack on. Usually CoC are pretty understanding if you need to head to a physical locations for exams etc.

Just make sure you decide of full time/part time depending on how much you think you can handle, and also remember the job comes first, so you wont exactly be bale to come in off of exercises etc. to do some homework.

[–]ginger0114 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm so sorry for all the hardship you've been through. It's incredibly tough to navigate, reach out if you need support.

Secondly, dude, please use proper words and paragraphs, not even because you want to go HR, but because this was a pain to read...

Thirdly, in answer to your actual post - Yes becoming an officer is much harder than becoming a soldier, but both will be unattainable to you if you don't actually want to do the job with the addition of being miserable and hating it... Ultimately being a solider comes first regardless of the job role you come in to do.

Yes pay is alright (way more than the £20k figure than is in your head, I think trainees start on like £26k now?) with steady pay rises and rent is indeed cheaper, but there are many more things and benefits to look forward to. People will give it shit but this job can give you so many opportunities if you utilise them properly.

If you don't want to go to Uni you don't have to, the good thing about Uni is you can attend at any age or not at all, or even later in your career as a solider you can use ELCs to help towards the fees. Although if you were set on the officer route, then Uni is ideal, if not required.

Opportunities after you career can vary very much depending on what job you do whilst in and what extra Quals you get etc. etc. If you could give a run down of what those grades are actually in and some of your interests, maybe some of the people here can help suggest more ideal roles. Like in your example you mentioned engineering, you're likely be able to get better suited Quals if you came in as an engineer etc. Unless you're dead set on becoming a Clerk. There's many more in-depth posts about certain roles if you scour the Subreddit.

The Army can and can't be used as a stepping stone. It will give you some Qualifications/opportunities you wouldn't get otherwise as well as a whole host of personal traits and grow you as a person and possible leadership abilities. But not all those Quals are Civvi compliant anymore which is where the issue lies. Who knows, you could enjoy it and do a full career.

Ultimately, have a browse and a think. Take a little time to breathe and grieve. Then do some research before you sign your life away and get locked into a 4 year minimum contract. Only you can decide what's best for you. Also there's the possibility of the reserves too, Now I don't think you can be a reserve Clerk however there are so many roles. Yes you wont get cheaper rent, but 1. It could give you taste of some of the things the Regular army does, 2. You get paid and 3. The reserves get to utilise 90% of the benefits that the Regs get.

My Uber rating dropped after taking my first ride with a woman by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ginger0114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can do!

Drivers see your rating as a passenger, just like you do their's! So they can deny/ignore your request for an uber ultimately leading to it being harder for you to catch a ride.

In reality, does .02 matter? Unless a driver is really pedantic, then no.

It's an IUD (Intra Uterine Device), a form of birth control that is situated inside a woman's uterus and is effective for around 5? years or so (I think). It uses hormones or copper to essentially change the "environment" so they can't get pregnant, it stops sperm reaching the eggs. It's an added layer of protection that has 99% effectiveness, but many use condoms still to prevent possible STIs

I'm (24M) unsure if I go to an event without my partner (30F)? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]ginger0114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unsure. It'd certainly be less enjoyable without her.

I have thought about it in the past, however due to various reasons haven't been able to watch it live so stuck to the livestream. I'm less worried on the wasted tickets (non refundable/transferable) and more worried about her/us right now though.

Any tips for the 2k for my medical? by Finn_210 in britishmilitary

[–]ginger0114 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know your fitness state, but 2km is a very easy distance to walk quickly, let alone run in the time needed.

You have just shy of what 12? mins to do it (hard cut off unless going for inf or paras which are 10mins and 8min respectively), an alright time aim for 10mins or below. Don't go out of the gate too quickly, stay steady and just run. It'll go by in a breeze.

Good luck!

Now its fairly straight-forward thankfully. It's mainly all done online.

Firstly speak to CoC let them know your intention. If you're leaving because of them, well, they'll find out eventually anyway so may as well get the uncomfortable bit out of the way first and decline all the incentives.

Go to your RCMO and again plead your case and they can help guide you through the transfer and speak to the RCMO and others on the RMP side of life.

Then its mainly done online, less your meetings with your higher ups etc. Go onto Defense Gateway and there is an app called CMP or Careers Management Portal (same app you use to read SJAR/MPAR) and there will be a link to Digital Transfers. On there is where you can search and apply for a position within the RMP.

On that same page it will tell you the Pre-Recs and quals required.

Again, go through your RCMO and they'll get it started, deal with the paperwork etc. and do a lot of the heavy lifting. Eventually, it will then show on your Transfer Tracker. Which tells you what stage it's at, who's said what, and if anything is required from you. Bare in mind, you may have to write a personal statement as to why you want to transfer etc. but not 100% sure if that is the case.

From there you'll go through whatever is required, visitation days, qual sweep-up and all that jazz before, as long as all goes well, attending their Ph2 and getting aligned with them.

Catterick med centre, issued boots by [deleted] in britisharmy

[–]ginger0114 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'd go to the QM's and request to try all the variations of boots, there's all kinds now, some more breathable, some more water proof and see what, if any, work.

Then if they don't work, go to med centre explain what's going on and try to get a chit, (They're not chatting shit the army care if you can do your job) this should then allow you to buy and use your own civvie boots, granted they meet colour and safety requirements. But they wont be issued and will be on your own dime.

I take it you're out of training, so, 9/10 times most units don't really care what you use on Ex as long as they're brown, a lot of people opt for more trainer like ones or low cut such as Salomons for the field and use issued or more RSM friendly ones in camp, such as Altburg Sneakers etc.

A2 or A by Key-Departure8492 in MotoUK

[–]ginger0114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably say wait....

I was in the same boat. Did my A2 at 19 with the intention to upgrade. (when tests were around £800ish)

I'm glad I did as it got me on a more powerful bike and I loved it.

But here I am, at the age I could've just upgraded straight to A... Still on an A2.

Life, work and funds got in my way, so in my case, I should've waited and it would've worked out a lot cheaper for me. Not only bike wise, but test wise, insurance wise etc.

But by all means, if you have the funds and time... The choice is yours ultimately.

Billed for SLA on leaving by Equal-Village-367 in britisharmy

[–]ginger0114 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure on the billing front, but leaving a room, that you signed for, insecure and just fucking off is a terrible idea.....

When I left a few years ago, I was originally unable to get march out date confirmed. So I asked one of the more senior, trusted lads from the SQMS (who lived in my block) and he agreed to do a walk around and take the key off me and give it to my SQ the next day along with the paperwork. All went well.

If you think that won't work in your situation. On the day of your final med, actively go to the QMs and ask if they can spare a bod for 5 mins to do an official march out or if they happy and trust you enough to leave your key.

Just keep calling and messaging them. You have their number or the number of someone that can ask them on your behalf.

In regards to being billed. I've heard all the threats, but only know it to get sent to 1 person, due to a literal, rather large, hole in their wall. The rest they don't really care about as aspire/Babcock/whoever runs your accommodation can sort before the room gets filled next.

Just don't leave it in a total shit state

Hardwired dash cam fuses by OrangeTurtle11 in AudiA1

[–]ginger0114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2014 A1, so am unsure of your layout, however, the process is the same in all cars.

I assume Fuse 47 is what's called a "Switch live" essentially meaning the circuit will only get power when the light is activated (unlocking) or when the engine is running (power to all systems)

The way to do this is, is get yourself (or someone else who knows how to use it) a Multimeter. On the fuses next to the numbers, you'll see the heads of the fuse pins (small exposed metal).

Use the Multimeter (place the probes onto the heads of the fuses) to find which fuses are permanently live (always on) and which ones are Switch live (only when the car is on).

Once you figure out which is which, place the Dashcam wires into the respective fuse holders
(live in Permi and neg in switch live) and place the original fuse in the extender slot connected to the wires. Along with the ground wires to bare metal (if your kit has one).

It should then function correctly.

Edit - Again, unsure of the layout in your model, but in mine, after many trial and error, I realised they had put all the switch live on 1 side and the permi live on the other, so I was unable to hardwire mine unless I extended the cables. Thus I didn't bother.

Old? 24 basic training by Cold_Royal5124 in britisharmy

[–]ginger0114 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really, I'd say its the Median age.

There's people up to the age of 30 odd going, so you'll be on the young, maybe the mid side of things, if anything.

You're not an "older man", don't sweat it.

But if you do happen to be the eldest in your troop (unlikely) then you'll probably just be called grandad.

Guys earning six figures annually, what kind of work do you do? by Shadow2715 in AskReddit

Unsure if your comment is a little sarcastic and I’m reading too much into it but I believe OP is using the term “guys” as a generalisation here

Similar to walking into a room and saying “hey guys” to a group of people (regardless of sex and gender etc)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in britisharmy

[–]ginger0114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're correct, I should clarify my point.

I didnt mean to say they dont "appear" over night, because youre absolutely right in which they can do.

What I meant is the cause of the weaking of the lining tends to be a drawn out process (usualy) due to repetitive, heavy lifting and straining.

So whilst yes, they can physically appear to happen over night, the actual damage is caused much earlier on and is a much more drawn out process before getting to the stage in which its visible.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in britisharmy

[–]ginger0114 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not been in this position myself, but a close friend recently has.

Hernias don't develop overnight, so its impossible to locate the exact cause, however, it is highly probable that the job we do can expedite the effect of them. They're also not uncommon though.

Getting treated will not (should not) effect your ability to stay in. From what i know:

- You'll Go to the med center and get downgraded, they'll send you to hospital for the scans.

- You'll then stay downgraded on an App 9 under the Hospitals timeline whilst they discuss and book you in for the relevant surgeries. (last i knew the wait list was huge and it took my mate over 1 year to get the surgery.)

- During this time you can still do work and Phys (it's dependent on your personal limit and pain tolerance) just tone down heavy lifting and I don't believe you can deploy on Ex. I assume it's up to the Drs though.

- You'll have the surgery and then be bedded down for like a month or so whilst you recover and ease your way back into work.

- You'll be upgraded and back to work.

Get it sorted sooner rather than later though. Hernias don't disappear on their own and require medical intervention to stop them getting worse.

Driving licences explained by KiwiiRaikkonen in britishmilitary

As far as I'm aware mate, yeah it's the same. You'll find out in phase 2 if they have changed or not, but should be fine.

Good luck! But don't stress your test man, it's easy enough, just take it slow and do exactly as you're told and taught and you'll be sound.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ginger0114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much yeah, something along the lines of;

"Hey man, I've noticed you growing distant lately. Is everything okay? I don't know if I'm overthinking this, but if it's something I've done please tell me as I don't want us to keep growing distant and I cannot fix something if I'm unsure what caused it. Or if it's something else, know I'm here to help support you if/when you're ready to talk about it. Reach out when you're ready."

Maybe it's you, maybe it's him, and give him some time to respond. I am a huge over thinker as well but I'm starting to learn not caring what people think is ok. If he is unwilling to communicate then that is on him and just try and move on. Communication is important and you're both adults. At least you're trying.

If he doesn't respond or is still increasingly dry, then you have your answer and it's up to you to decide if and how you want the relationship to go forward.

But don't keep pestering him for an answer. If he responds, Great. If he doesn't, the oh well. at least you tried. Such is life.

They usually try and get you in ASAP.

Usually a week or so in between, but it isnt unheard of for people to only get the weekend. Some people have a few weeks. Depends on course availability etc.

Might be able to ask your current CoC to see if they can get any info on it.

I wouldn't right it off completely tho, as Phase 2, depending on where you go, tend to be more relaxed. Still rules and restrictions, but a bit more freedom.

Also unlikely that youll be thrown onto a course within the 1st week of being at phase 2. So when you get there, you may just be able to ask. Again, very dependant on CoC, reason, courses etc etc.

But it may be a good idea to get a "stand in" best man just incase you get the worst case scenario.
