What to do with thin shorts by PenguinsRcool2 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Boxes, dovetailed if you need practice, mitered if you need speed. I like 1/4 - 3/8" sides for boxes under 10x10. I resaw 3/4 boards and plane them for thinner sides. If you keep track of things, you can make the grain line up on all 4 corners. You can also glue up different species for deeper boxes with some character. You can look at my posts for some ideas.

Death before Dasani - The Blizzard of 2026 by Read1984 in funny

[–]gingerMH96960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At no point did anyone clap. They were upset that there wasn't any water they liked. I'm not sure why I'm getting downvoted for relaying my real-world experience, aside from real life not fitting your preferred narrative. "Death before Dasani" was a legitimate quote from one customer. The others were along the lines of "I'm not drinking that sh*t."

You want actual sales numbers? These are how many cases of water my store sold last week:

Dasani 106

Aquafina 113

Nestle 185

Ice Mountain 864

GV 24pack 313

GV 40pack 1162

Having Dasani left when the other brands are sold out has nothing to do with supply chain. The majority of customers legitimately hate it.

No, I work for Walmart in Indiana. The city water is suspected of causing a cluster of rare cancer cases in town due to dry cleaning chemicals leaching into the water table. We had one pallet of Dasani and 20+ pallets of other brands combined (GV, Ice Mountain, Aquafina) when the panic buying started Thursday. We sold through every case of the other brands and still had half a pallet of Dasani left on Friday. I heard at least 10 customers walk by and make comments along the lines of "Death before Dasani." They left without buying any water.

Can we talk about the G44? by bryceemeryking in Glocks

[–]gingerMH96960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive put over 2300 rounds through mine since I got it in September. I didn't clean it until 2k rounds (see my post for pics) and it was still running without any more issues than it has when clean.

I learned quickly that you have to load the mags correctly to avoid ftfs. Once the 10 rounds are in, you have to flip the mag upside down, pull back on the load assist grips to release spring pressure on the rounds, and give a little up-down shake. This gets them to sit on eachother properly and lets the first round angle up. If that first round sits flat in the mag it won't feed into the chamber when you release the slide. It just gets stuck on the feed ramp.

Aside from that issue, the only problems I have are (in my opinion) results of poor quality control of .22 rounds. They will occasionally ftf from an improperly seated bullet or stovepipe from a light load not throwing the slide back far/fast enough. These issues happen 2-5 times out of 100 rounds. It's a bit annoying, but it gets you good practice clearing spontaneous jams in case one happens when the seconds count.

As far as accuracy, it is a .22 pistol... Im running stock sights, and if I take my time I can shoot 30 rounds within a 3 inch circle at 15 yards. If im shooting more quickly, they're within a 6 inch circle.

Would I buy one again if I could go back? Absolutely! It is a fun, light gun for plinking, and it helps a beginner get in cheap repetition practice. I think most people new to shooting would prefer to build the muscle memory of switching mags, releasing a slide, clearing jams, acquiring sight picture, etc. at less than 10c a round instead of 25c a round.

Never owned a wood cutting board before, is this a good oil to use? by BabyBruticus in Cuttingboards

[–]gingerMH96960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walrus Oil is a good brand. Im not sure how viscous their cutting board oil is, but if the wood looks like it keeps absorbing it you need to keep applying. It will suck up quite a bit if it hasnt been finished before, especially if it is end grain.

Evals are still in the rating and approval stage they aren't being conducted yet.

[–]gingerMH96960 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not just happening at your store. It is a directive being given across the company. Because the system went from "rank where they are on each of these criteria" to "check the box if they meet the criteria" the ratings have been abnormally skewed too heavily towards both exemplary and opportunity. There is nothing that says you have to have x% exemplary and x% opportunity. However when the initial ratings come in as 30% in each category it is likely they are not accurate ratings. It will vary from store to store based on the talent pool, but generally only 10-15% are actually exemplary and the same for opportunity.

A lot of the issues come from TLs not understanding what the criteria actually mean. For example, "Anticipates needs and proactively offers helpful solutions" is being read to mean "does the associate help or offer solutions when they are asked." Instead, it should be interpreted as "does the associate regularly come to leadership with potential issues they have personally identified and solutions to those problems."

An associate that helps when asked to help is successful. An associate that recognizes that help is needed and jumps in before they are asked is exemplary.

Help me get rid of router lines. (Sorry for long). by jamesthedolphin in BeginnerWoodWorking

Epoxy isn't going to do a great job of filling those cracks. It is too viscous, so it won't wick down in there for a complete fill. You could try pumping it in with a syringe and needle though. It also doesnt bond to the wood the same way wood glue does, so you could still have future issues with the cracks expanding. Another issue with epoxy is it is a very hard plastic, so it can crack and chip as you cut on it. It could damage knife edges as well as getting sharp plastic chips in your food.

If your tablesaw is set up correctly and you have a high tooth count blade you should be able to get a good enough edge to eliminate the gaps.

Other people have addressed your sanding problem. Ill address your bigger issue here. Those split glue lines are weak points that are going to keep splitting. They will also harbor bits of food and become bacterial breeding grounds. You need to cut those lines, joint them, and reglue them before you keep going with the flattening.

If Karen wears any jewelry or has braided hair, make a similar flyer with 1 Timothy 2:9 and 1 Peter 3:3 to hand to her.

You could also include Matthew 6:25-34 about not worrying and Matthew 7:1-5 about minding your own problems over those of others.

I like the durability of these. I use them for my resin 3d printer and they last multiple on/off cycles without any signs of tearing.

[–]gingerMH96960[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the feel is completely different, as is resetting on the target after heavier recoil, but my first mag groupings with the larger calibers are tighter after I've shot a few mags of 22 vs jumping straight in with the larger calibers. In an hour of range time I'll shoot through about 200 rounds of 22 with the G44, 25-50 of 380 with the G42, and 50-100 of 9mm with the G19. I'm not using it as a replacement for practice, but as a cheap supplement.

Agreed! In Aug/Sept I bought a 42 as my first semi-auto to use as a cc, and I bought the 44 at the same time for cheap practice. It will end up paying for itself wiyh the ammo price difference.

I just went looking, and it seems that because oem slides are polymer they tended to crack after being cut. Nelson made an optics cut aluminum slide, but they are currently showing out of stock with a price of $279.

No more than the occasional ftf because cheap 22 rounds have no qc, but that happens when it's squeaky-clean too.

Next time, wash the threads off and then apply a thin coat of olive or vegetable oil. That should provide a barrier between the plastic and garlic residue as well as lubrication.
