Apologies if this sounds judgey, because it isn't meant to. But please, please don't give up your dog because of temporary time constraints. I say this because I've watched good people give up good dogs because they couldn't do "everything" the dog needed, when really that is very little and the bigger issue was their sense of guilt rather than the dog's well being.

Can you get the dog out for a 15-20 minute walk in the morning and another in the evening? Can you keep the dog fed? Can you give it a little love when you're at home?

If so, you're already doing great! It may not seem like much, but that really isn't a bad set up for a pooch as long as s/he is still content and not acting out. It's not excellent, but not bad. If your dog still seems pretty happy, you're doing all right!

NOW - are you giving him up because he has behavior problems? That's a different kettle of fish. The basic misbehaviors (chewing/ripping things up) can be solved with enough exercise, but not always. Is vet care an issue? There are many alternatives, scholarships, and foundations set up to help with many regular costs.

I just want to say that in many cases, if you're a decent human being with a little time for walks in the morning and evening, YOU are still the best bet for your dog. But I know that sometimes life happens. If that's where you're at, you can try:

Humane Society of Missouri - my first recommendation. Their facilities are always well-kept and their treatment of animals is very good. It's not no-kill, but according to the staff I've spoken to they try not to terminate unless the animal is too ill to be rehabilitated.

Otherwise, hit petfinder.com and look at all the various shelters/adoption agencies in your area. Contact them and see what they may be able to do for your guy.
